What a very strange relationship Wallis and Edward had!
In this video I illustrate that point… in hopefully an entertaining way!

King George VI was also well aware of the danger those two posed. The Queen mother (man, could she hold a grudge) hated the two of them and blamed him for King George's early death, which I think is valid. Remember, Hitler called her (the Queen mother) the "most dangerous woman in Europe." That was one steely woman and was so helpful to King George VI.

The royal family blamed him for the death of his brother. Queen Elizabeth II's father had lung cancer and was always stressed due to the war with the Nazis. He was shy and had a stutter. However, he knew his duty to his family and country and that's why the church and the government made sure Edward abdicated due to his Nazi allegiances and how easily manipulated he was. MI5 and MI6 knew the Nazis were friendly with Wallis and Wallis controlled Edward.

The parallel between Edward and Wallis/Harry and Meghan is hard to ignore. Of Wallis’s relationship with Jimmy Donahue, Marcus Anderson and Tyler Perry seem to be a “friendship” that doesn’t quite feel right. Harry was never to be king, thank God for small mercies, however a lot of his behaviour seems very similar to his great great uncle.
@itsmesam1967
@itsmesam1967 7 месяцев назад
What I find interesting is something I had heard that Diana had supposedly said once regarding the boys and being King. Diana was said to stated that she wished Harry had been born first, as William was very shy and reserved. She felt that a life in the public eye wasnt for William, but that Harry would cope well with it. Now, if she did say this, its interesting how wrong a mother can be reading her own childrens personalities... though her death certainly would have played a major role in changing their perspectives.

You have to wonder at the genetic forces in the House of Windsor. There have been some no-so-great human beings amongst them - Edward Duke of Windsor, Prince Andrew, Harry. and that is only in living memory. Harry could have copped a double whammy because (excluding the current Earl Spencer) there are some nasty traits in previous generations of Spencer men too.

The way Perry presents his entrance into the whole story during the Netflix doc isn’t remotely believable. He claims he took a call from a woman he’d never met and opened his home (and private jet), to her because her claims about the RF sort of sounded like what his father did to his mother. I don’t believe it. He’s either extraordinarily gullible (unlikely for a billionaire film producer), or something else is going on. I’m for the something else.

Just finished the book too. H & M are almost a parallel life, living off of friends, playing faux royals etc. Edward seemed immature, mummy issues, not interested in supporting the work of King yet wanted all the frills that went with it. Not sure why Wallis got away with playing around, supposedly she was not that attractive - but maybe she had “other wares”. Like I said, so similar to H&M it’s scary. Seems there is one in every generation of the Royals 🤨

@kegs176 There really is one in every generation. Duke of Windsor's grandfather, Edward VII, for example. I don't think there were any in Victoria's generation only because Victoria was the only one in her generation to survive very long, but her uncle (George IV?) from whom she inherited the throne was someone Victoria's mother considered too immoral for her daughter to be around.

If I may be permitted a second comment, I would be absolutely humiliated. If I were a married woman, and another man was buying me 13 dresses, and/or first. My pride would just never allow that. Certainly, I would love to have generous friends, but my feelings of independence and self-worth would find it humiliating. I can only imagine how my husband would you feel about that. I would never offend him in such a way. I know aristocrats are much more open about “adultery“, but still it must’ve stung the Duke of Windsor. How do you ever get over what you have given up? “I was the king of England“. I feel the same way about, another prince far far away from home.

@@thevintageread Dictators don't get elected by popular vote. Even though the SA and SS had been terrorising voters throughout the latter part of 1932 and the first weeks of 1933, Hitler still didn't get a majority vote in March 1933. He was only able to just scrape over the 50% mark through a coalition with a small far-right party. It is also important to stress that Hitler was not elected Chancellor. The parliamentary procedure for electing the chancellor would have been to have all members of parliament vote on that. The government having collapsed after the failed election in November 1932 and von Papen having been relieved of office, Hindenburg (the president) was ruling by virtue of emergency powers and Hitler basically twisted his arm into appointing him as chancellor.

Great review! Another view of Edward can be found in "Little Gloria, Happy at Last", a biography of Gloria Vanderbilt by Barbara Goldsmith, which I read many years ago. He was dating Gloria's aunt Thelma. Thelma was finding "the little prince" boring, needy, and a hopeless lover. She begged her friend Wallis to take him off her hands and the rest is history.

I've never heard of this Jimmy Donahue before. Really enjoyed this video and thank goodness he abdicated. King George was more suited to the throne, albeit, reluctantly, he did his duty and did it well. I've always felt there were parallels between Harry and Edward and to an extent, the two couples. From what I've read and seen, Wallis didn't really love or want to marry Edward but he abdicated the throne for her, so much like Diana and the printed tea towels, it was too late. They seemed to have lived such superficial lives - much like H&M.

I have always thought that Edward was so nieve politically, that he took everyone and thing at face value. Just like Harry. Thank God they (the royal family) have brought in someone with intellectual and emotional maturity.

I’m hoping that her name stops appearing in the media. That should cause her to stick up on those patches 😆

I’ve read a few books about this two people. Wallis was an early Meghan Markle. Going for the best one ( future king) I think Edward was gay or went both ways so to say. They were friends with the Germans especially Hitler. He was afraid of Churchill I believe. He gave up the throne for “the love of his life” but kept sticking his oar in. He complained about everything they made him do. He still lived like a king with all the best of everything. Another spoiled rotten person. I don’t believe Wallis was in love with Edward. I think she was living on his tailcoat and reaped the good stuff.

Agreed, I think Wallis was in love with being in love with a King and when that didnt come to pass.... Well one can hardly not marry the man who told the world he was giving up the throne just to marry her, now could she? Ok, maybe today a woman would lol, but back then... nah, it wasnt done lol.
@Dont_say_that
@Dont_say_that 7 месяцев назад
Wallis was never in love with Edward and nearly “escaped” him: He threatened to kill himself if she ever left him. That threat is what trapped her. She made the most of a bad situation, but near the end of his life, she didn’t even visit his rooms.
@itsmesam1967
@itsmesam1967 7 месяцев назад
@@Dont_say_that agree, she didnt love him. For David I think the need to marry and stay/be married was more to do with saving face with the RF and the people of the UK. He was very desperate.
@fibanocci314
@fibanocci314 7 месяцев назад
I think she knew/suspected that after all that fuss was raised and he's wouldn't let her now out gracefully, if she left him she'd never catch another rich husband. She was getting older and her name was already scandalous for having cheated with him, if there was even a hint that she was just gold digging . . .
@itsmesam1967
@itsmesam1967 7 месяцев назад
@@fibanocci314 certainly another contributing factor for sure.... though she did seem to keep men interested as she aged, her affairs are testament to that. Though that could aslo have been someone wanting to 'rub' shoulders with her to be nearer David?

I cannot wait to read, "The Traitor King." I have studied David and Wallis over the years and the great "love story" was very much one sided and sad. I have always wondered if David fell for her so hard because she was the only one who treated him badly. Everyone else was such a yes man and kissed up. It must have been quite interesting to David to constantly have to "chase" the affections of Wallis. All the other young English roses were willing and sweet where Wallis was mean and distant. We, as humans, always want what we can't have.

See, every Duchess needs a good gay mate. Wallis had Jimmy, the Queen Mum had Billy, Margaret had Snowden. And poor sad Duchess of Montidorito has Marcus Anderson? Omid Scoobie Doodoo?! Ah, yes, Mountbatten, curious fellow, with his wife. And I forgot the Heir to the Woolworth fortune had died, seemingly, by his own infliction.
