whats the head scratcher? cap dump to his buddy verbeek to make a move. Fan favorite yes, good defenseman? no. He had single digit assists, bad advanced stats as a D Man, bad in his own zone, bad in the neutral zone and not a puck mover. Hes been replaced by one projected star in edvinson and another very high ceiling johanson.

@@jakerain2820 but why give up a second in addition to him? Dont tell me that justin holl or ben chiarot have better contracts or are better players. Plus the sharks just claimed barclay goodrow on waivers for FREE. Who has pretty much the same contract as wallman but for one more year. Really doesnt make sense why they would want to give a second to get rid of wallman

@@jakerain2820 Here is the head scratcher: Even if this means a Mitch Marner coming here, it still does not make sense. Can you tell me why Yzerman didn't just put Walman on waivers? Someone probably would have claimed him but you don't know if you don't try (Goodrow). My issue is not really getting rid of Walman but the need to throw in a 2nd for someone who is worth a trade alone, without the sweetener. Mismanagement .

Maybe the Sharks were considering moving back from pick 14 and the Red Wings wanted insurance that they don't get jumped in case the player they want is there. Also it looks like the Rangers owe San Jose a favor for signing Goodrow, now San Jose owes Detroit a favor for this trade, who knows what's going on.

This was a wtf moment for sure and me starting to lose faith in the Yzerplan. He literally was paired with Sieder who the fuck are they going to put there Justin Holl and Wallman wasn’t even a bad player. Yzerman was my favorite player but I’m struggling to understand him as GM.

Maybe: Hasso Plattner, German Owner of the Sharks, Multi-Billionaire (one of the Main Persons at SAP) is very old (close to 80) and wants to see some success in his lifetime. He can afford to throw around money for odd deals.

The Wings have the offense, 91 goals & 208 pts between the top 3, Larkin, Raymond, Debrincat. Another 54 goals & 138 pts for the next three, Compher, Perron, Sprong. What they don't need is to trade away a top defenseman. I don't understand .

this is horrible. yzerman is losing it, only way you can remotely justify this is if yzerman has a major trade incoming and legit HAD to get rid of cap space. there is zero free agent that justifies moving him other than MAYBE Sam Reinhart to a 7 year deal this is ridiculous

Walman had some "character" issues last season. The Red wings are not the kind of team to publicize that sort of thing, but it's well known around the league which is why no team wanted him and why Stevie had to sweeten the deal.

Future consideration trades are not allowed in the nhl anymore without league approval. So obviously something else is in the works. Something good enough that the league approved it and it's worth a 2nd and walman.

This is a terrible trade. As you say, this is bad asset management. Insane is my spontanus reaction. I see the coming two seasons as lost, too many bad contracts and not a good enough core to build around. There is no coming trade or signing that could justify this trade. It just smells desperation and boy oh boy do I hope I'm wrong.

Holl, Petry and Chiarot all have no movement clause or modified NMC. Detroit cannot move any of them without eating money and trading a 1st round pick.

Your reaction, the majority of "fan" reactions...it's not a video game lol it's pretty obvious why Walman was moved (and im sure we'll find out more in free agency). It's almost as simple as just...looking at the red wings roster. Walman or Holl were going to go because they just signed Johannson and Edvinsson proved that he is an October starter. They could still move Holl as well (and im sure everyone will be butt hurt for no reason). Walman was owed 3.4mill for another year, hes had some injury problems (He's never played a full season in his entire career spanning 4 different leagues), 40pts in 3 seasons with the team, left hand shot. Where is the confusion...?

The confusion isn't that he is gone (though moving Holl/Maatta would have made more sense) The confusion is that he was given away for free with a 2nd round pick A legitimate league average defenseman in terms of stats and advanced analytics (on what's considered a good contract) being treated the same as a 5+ million cap dump is what is baffling everyone There's a logjam at defense no doubt, but to move Seiders partner specifically is odd, no?
