got this over Black Friday for $19 and it does everything my $130 Nvidia box can do since it runs Android TV. I don't use these things for anything else but watching streaming services in 4K and it does a great job driving my 4K HDR 32" monitor. Will probably buy another one for the kids. This is the best bang for the buck in out there now.
I just picked one up at my local Walmart on a Rollback for $19.99 and I have to say it performs really well. I've even added Kodi for extensive content. The remote even controls my TV. I'm gonna go back and pick up a couple more for my other TV's.
@@jessiedehart45 they have the tivo stream for $15 too not sure which is the better deal ,I picked up the tivo because it has a type C port aside from the micro USB power and the same specs I think and it can be debloated and tivo can be removed I didn't like the looks of the tivo remote ,it looked big and bulky but I can say it is better than I though it was ,much smaller and very ergonomic , and nice feel o the button especially the d pad
I have watched all your videos and have learned so much more than I thought I knew about my gadgets. In fact I'm getting my very first raspberry pi because of you. I'm getting the pi 400 bundle for $100. I watched your vid on that and figured it would be the best one to start out with.
I got one and works great. I'm 70 years old and tired of paying sat dish for same thing I can get over internet. I don't have smart tv but it does have HDMI ports. That's what I'm using. Easy setup so yes I like it.havent been great Walmart shopper but had to check this out for the price. And with 4 k resolution on tv is better than sat.

Crazy.... Goldeneye running on what is essentially a set top box, better than it ran on its original console hardware. My child self never would have believed it.
Bought one for $20. Works just fine for streaming. Don't overlook how good the remote works compared to many android boxes. I tested pairing the remote on a Samsung, LG, Insignia and Sony TVs. On all four I was able to control on/off, Volume and the Input source.
Picked one up a couple of days ago, streams nicely. Its sitting behind my Vizio sound bar. Surprisingly it's able to control my sound bar, many remotes can't. However, this is my biggest issue... It CANNOT control my Onn brand TV even though it's an Onn brand TV
I bought three of these to replace my Mibox Ss that can't run tivimate anymore without freezing up. So far they work flawlessly and the setup was easy. I also get a stronger wifi connection with the Onn over the Mibox too.
did you try replacing the power supplies for the mibox? had similar issues with older android boxes, switching to a high output power supply fixed it up when doing heavier tasks

I played a ton of dead trigger back in the day. It was super repetitive and grindy but still fun. The devs went on to make Shadowgun Legends which was alright, but I enjoyed DT2 more. Kinda cool seeing it in an ETA video.

I bought two of these and they're outstanding in terms of performance. My only complaint so far is its always outputting in HDR. Which is only a problem when watching SDR content, hopefully theres an update that will make switch between SDR and HDR based on the content. But its definitely a great upgrade for me as my TVs the apps and smart features are starting show its age.
Yes this a cable cutter! Also it's alot better than ROKU! ROKU is like a iphone! You are forced to use only ROKU apps! With this ONN Android tv streamer you can download anything you want! Good bye ROKU!

I absolutely love mine. Easy setup and the way the cords are don't really bother me. It's fast and I have had no problems at all. There's a lot to watch. I got it for $19.00 here in California. Even at $30.00 is a great deal.
@@bpalpha Yes, a device like this will play on a 720p TV just fine. I have a Chromecast with Google TV which is similar specced connected to a 32 inch 720p TV with zero issues.
@@bpalpha I use it on a 1080p TV and it absolutely flies. Super smooth and just works. Beware that the latest Android TV home screen automatically plays previews (ads) with sound. You'll need to go into the settings to disable the autoplay/sound, but can't disable the ads short of changing launcher. 720p should be no problem.
@@SnorryHobo yes but the process isn't so straightforward. I need to use an app called send files to TV to do it because I don't have a powered OTG cable. But also with so little storage you need to be extra conscious of what you fill it with.
They are now 20$. Honestly love this thing. I tried the pi route but it kept having issues. I feel like this should hold up pretty well and for what I use it for. Thanks for making this video I’ve been looking for another low cost option.
I just got it too for $20... how can it only be 20!? It's better than most Fire or Roku sticks. the remote has voice and can potentially power your TV and stereo via Infrared control. I love it so far, I'm just worried to make up for the cost they're mining extra data from us.

I always trust your reviews, I have seen this device at Walmart as my wife works there, so it peaked my interest. I have a Fire stick, but apps like peacock and my cable app aren't available, same for PS4, not everything I have can be used on it. I think other reviews are just biased as they see Onn. Brands as trash. We have an Onn. Soundbar that cost $60, the audio is amazing for the price, so I'm all on on buying this device!
But if I use voice search find what i want how do I save it like firestick has watchlist others have favorites where do I save stuff with this don't want ext usb to much crap to go thru needs to be easy like lite stick or 4k max so far no one can answer my question

I was really impressed that this device also had a built-in universal remote so now just with the Google TV remote I can power on/off my TV AND use volume up/down for my A/V Receiver. I still need to power on my receiver but that's it.
These boxes r great I buy them out every time im at a Wal-Mart and fully load them up and give them out this year as Xmas gifts. They work great for load n movies n cable tv.
Do you get any freezing during GeForce now? I get reboots(2X), glitched out screens(green tint or rectangular scrambling), and random pauses for about 5 seconds ever minute (despite my internet benchmarking at 230Mbit). Let me know if you had anything similar happen. I'll probably exchange it, as I may have just had a bad unit.
Most Live Wallpapers by Kittehface Software can be sideloaded to the ONN Android TV Box and most all Android TV Box made in China. (Doesn't work on the Google Chromecast though.) Download the apk file from a site like Apkpure or Aptoide. I use X-Plore to download & install the APK files from my Google Drive. You'll get a message the app doesn't work on this version of Android, but when you pull up screensavers on the settings they show up. I have Galactic Core on my ONN box right now. I've tried dozens of Live Wallpaper from other vendors but so only Kittehface Software works. I was going to make a video but I thought ETA Prime would be a better place to spread the word.
I subscribed; however, I'd say what this video is missing is a deep dive into the remote buttons. A question many android enthusiast often would like to know is how interchangeable the remotes are. Given the google android interface many would like to know if this remote's button functionality works with Chromecast with Google TV box. Additionally, if this remote would work with Mi Box or their Shields. And lastly, if these remotes buttons can be remapped with Button Mapper. I hope you include these points in a subsequent video.
Everyone should get off the firestick now, it's officially a spy device (amazon sidewalk) the government watching everybody in the network. All amazon devices are now synced together world wide. Trash that spy devices.
@@100Bucks As long as you use a device online, your data goes straight to the NSA anyways, my old computer basics college textbook didn't hide that. Android and Windows is the worst when it comes to spying (fire stick is part of Android too). Apple do it as well, but not as bad. I still wouldn't recommend Apple products either way, since they're made cheap and sold at a ridiculous price. That, and the forced labor in their factories.

I was VERY surprised how well this box handles after picking one up a few days ago. To be honest, it could almost replace my Roku. Now, if the made an Ethernet-connected version to run nicely over a Gigabit home network...that would be a winner.

I watched both because I’m a detected subscriber. Also game pass works terrible in the menus but when you play games it’s amazing. Which is the opposite of what I thought would happen since the menus are less demanding I would have thought.
They call it fire stick cause it’s 🔥🔥 if you’re a noob and don’t use anything other then stock apps fire stick ain’t for you it’s for advanced users who like to watch literally anything they want and have the means to get the apps that allow it.
Had to return this because of frequent crashing and stuttering on youtube videos @ 1080p... Keep a very close eye on this box while you're in the return policy window. Many reports of the exact same issues. The hardware you get is amazing for the price but the software isn't even close to being there yet, and this being a Walmart product I wouldn't expect too many updates and fixes. Ended up getting the Tivo Stream 4k and it's been perfect for a week.
@@louskunt125 so I can cast from Tidal and Prime Video and such unlike a fire stick that can only do RU-vid or Netflix casting? It does have Google Cast built in? Screen sharing doesn't count since every single streaming device of ANY kind supports that.
Man I just got it and holy crap it's like night and day... I had a crappy fire stick and that thing was slow as molasses and constantly froze and stopped working... This onn device is snappy and quick and easy to set up and it does say it's dolby audio. Man I love the little thing it set up fast and just flicks and changes channels so fast. I'm loving it I've own many many stream devices this is probably even faster than my other Rokus

So does this thing have a reset hole/button so it can be put in update mode? I ask because if it does, then with the S905Y2 it should run emuelec from OTG storage. Would be about the price of a Raspberry Pi 3B+ but run emuelec way better than the Pi. Also it could be ripped from its shell and turned into a DIY handheld emulation device on the cheap then too. N64 would run worse but everything else should run better on an OS that eats no more than 100MB of RAM like emuelec.
Could just try the "Reboot to LibreELEC" app on playstore if it doesn't. Or sideload the same app if Android TV playstore doesn't have it available. Also a less-than-optimal would be the Kodi Emuelec add-on, but it still runs Android in the background.
@@seouljah760 so I bit the bullet and grabbed one. It has a reset button but it won't boot emuelec with the S905Y2 2GB dtb and for the record the "reboot to libreelec" apk won't work on this device. It runs but when you tell it to reboot it just dims the screen and does nothing. Are we SURE it's actually a S905Y2?
Tried dtb's for s905y2 2gb & 4gb, tried the ones for s905x2 2gb & 4gb as well. Appears it WOULD boot an alternate os and holding reset isn't even needed. It flashes the thumb drive light on boot and then hangs on the onn logo forever until you remove drive and reboot. Has to be an issue with dtb file. Can't imagine what else it could be...
I love how you get so much better games off of the play store....most of what I see is stupid little games that typically pop up in the ads in other games and I rarely download those but somehow I can't get rid of the stuff....ugh

I just got one today at Walmart and mine was $20. Just sitting here now waiting for the download to finish. I'm anxious to see for myself 8f it's any better or different than Roku.
Used a wired psc controller and a ps4 controller through BT. It was plug and plug for both retroarch and the Onn UI itself. Haven't tried 2 controllers at once but as long as power isn't an issue I don't think there will be an issue. Unfortunately using a powered hub seems to back power the the device and cause freezing.
I might need to check it out.. Any android box can run 4k or all these games fairly easy when you're hard wired to the internet. Try wifi, no hard wire. Good video tho

Don’t bother it will absolutely kill the performance if you want to get into 3rd party apps get a fire stick 4K and you will be 100 set I haven’t had tv Netflix Disney plus or any of em with the apps on their can watch anything
Walmart owns the ASDA supermarket group in the UK but we don't get any of the Walmart in house products which is a pity as now and again Walmart has some great stuff available.
i don't know if it will to bee much to ask for the price but you did not mention anything about the support for audio Dolby Atmos, DTS, audio pastrought etc.

Would COD Mobile run? I'm thinking of getting one of these for my brother and he LOVES Call of Duty. Granted he'd need an Xbox One or PS4 controller. Also can you move apps to the external storage?
So it turns out you can't transfer apps to the external storage. Also a few apps I tried don't work right. Meltdown didn't recognize my 8bitdo Pro 2 and Soulcraft crashes on startup. Also I was able to sideload a pair of Sonic fangames. Sonic: Time Twisted and Sonic 3 AIR work and immediately recognize my 8bitdo Pro 2, but with S3AIR you need to move the Sonic 3 and Knuckles ROM to the data folder (under Android/data/org.eukaryot.sonic3air). Also S3AIR doesn't show up in the menu. But when I use the frontend Nostalgia, I can find it. I guess some sideloaded apps don't appear in the menu.
I researched this before and came to the conclusion that yes, the video get downscaled to fit the viewport. My understanding is that the quality probably gets improved, because the original 4k video has a higher bitrate and this means that it probably has more details about the original video.
this like playing on latest and greatest Xbox one and PS5 they tell games run @ 4k but in reality they running bellow 720p and the sheep keep buying t nothing new lol honestly u wont notice difference just enjoy the movie
@@francismendes even ETA Prime's own videos prove you wrong. That Stat has confusingly little bearing on what resolution the video is rendered at. As far as I can tell, it's the UI viewport (play, pause icons, loading screen, etc) that that is referring to. For example, a first generation Chromecast will say 720p but it very very obviously is rendering RU-vid at 1080p, but the home screen is 720p. Again though, there are videos on this channel where ETA describes that that number means nothing about video resolution. I would link any if I could remember exactly which ones. As for downscaling, it's pretty obvious to anyone who owns an Android TV device that it's rendering at 1080p and streams in 1080p. How have you not noticed that you can only select up to 1080p when plugging ANY 4k Android TV device into a 1080p TV (or a 1080p slot on an older 4k TV)? RU-vid doesn't play resolutions higher than the system rendered resolution. This is well known to most Android users. 🤷♂️
