Rock Hill Municipal Court Judge Ray Long granted Shaska Bernetta Dye, 24, a personal recognizance bond instead of setting it at $10,000. Dye is a Wal-Mart employee with two prior convictions for stealing. She was charged by local police with breach of trust with fraudulent intent, and was released from jail to her mother.

I actually just posted a comment on how this being her 3rd offence and 3rd time before the same judge and most judges on the second time are not very lenient but the 3rd time that's game over judge is not giving bond because its been proven by your actions you haven't learned and depending if its misdemeanor or felony close to max sentence will be given but the judge doing it this way i think will open her eyes more to what she can become and a thief is not one of them

Pregnant, working a poverty wage job, probably has a credit rating of 50, keeps doing the same stupid thing and getting caught, guaranteed she's not married to the baby-daddy, likely is on public assistance. She's obviously borderline or mildly retar...er, "mentally challenged" - I'd be curious whether she's screwed up again since then.

mharris1270 1) It was just a silly joke, so don't get your knickers in a knot. I have total respect for the judge and I hope the defendant has learned her lesson. I wish her all the best. 2) The fact that Trump wants people to enter the country in a legal manner as opposed to sneaking in does not make him a racist. 3) The fact that Trump wants people coming from known hot spots of terror to be properly vetted does not make him a racist. 4) The fact that Trump wants ALL migrants to be properly vetted does not make him a racist. 5) Ones inability to grasp this common sense approach to immigration makes him/her an idiot.

@gop4usa12 8 лет назад
Wrong! Judges like this are the reason for repeat offenders. That young lady already had a record of shoplifting. Then Walmart gave her a third chance when they hired her. So how does she show her gratitude? By stealing from them. Do you think she didn't laugh all the way home remarking on what a sucker that old fool judge was? I think you'd have a completely different opinion if you could actually see the cost of everything you purchase, what's rolled in to it from thievery. That includes the cost of the stolen items, security personnel, and anti-theft technology. And let's also not forget the taxes we pay to arrest, prosecute, and punish these thieves.

As I understand it, bail is completely refundable and paid to the court. You don't run away and they give it all back when the dust settles. A bond is not refundable, it's like security on the loan the bondsman makes you then pays straight to the court on your behalf to satisfy bail.
@texasincolorado

+dloverise So what good reason would she be stealing iPads for numerous times? He knows that a 3rd offence is going to hammer her record, and letting her off this time at least there is a chance she can recover instead of going hard core for her 4th offence.
@johnhagan8775
@johnhagan8775 8 лет назад
+Saunya Harris He didn't let her off. He released her on a personal recognizance bond, which means she doesn't have to sit in jail while awaiting trial. That doesn't change the nature of the charges she's facing, which will still be enhanced by the two previous convictions. He still did her a huge favor though. She'd probably be in jail for a few months waiting for trial, and she's not likely to get a custodial sentence that long. This way she's not in jail and if she gets a 30 day sentence for theft, she serves 15-20 days and gets an early "good time" release instead of being held for 60 days while going through the process. It's better for her, and it's better for corrections officials who are saddled with overcrowded jails and tight budgets. They really don't want to lock people up for non-violent offenses before they're convicted of a crime.

@trogdorthe8th
@trogdorthe8th 8 лет назад
+E Drew I get that statement, but I also understand where you're coming from as well, and I'll explain my reasoning. I work in the court system, specifically in the courtroom. Yes, there are many wonderful judges out there, but unfortunately there are also many hardened judges for several reasons. You get some that have just seen too much of the same thing, or gave up on giving people chances because so many people took advantage of their good nature. It's sad when that happens, but it's the cold hard truth of the system when you get people stuck in bad situations: they can't get out of those situations, so they continue to make bad choices as a result and stay in the system. It's a pretty horrible cycle, and being a judge can be a devastating job as a result, because people's lives are quite literally in their hands on a daily basis. It's nice to see a tough but fair judge like this, and to see that he hasn't been hardened by his work.

+Kimberly Jett When their mangers/loss prevention stopped her and called the police she went right then. Depending on the city, time of day, and day of the week; you can see a judge as soon as the police get the paperwork done. It might have only been an hour from when she was stopped (that would be extremely fast, but it can happen). I used to work loss control for a Super Kmart, and if you got stopped on a Saturday afternoon it sucked to be you because you weren't seeing a judge until Monday morning.
