The One by me did for a long time but they don't have them anymore, I'm not sure when they stop selling them but apparently Walmart stopped selling fish in 2019
I used to love walmart back in the day. We got most of our clothes, toys, items from Walmart. The 90s - 2000s style with the Star in the middle, the smiley face. Felt so genuine and classy. Nowadays Walmart doesn't have the same charm that it used to have.
I miss Walmart from 2000-2009, before there were only supercentres and stuff. I liked when it was simple and classic. I loved being a kid and always getting those smiley face stickers when I went to walmart
I remember actually being excited to visit Walmart when I was a kid. That was from the late 90s to the early 2000s. Somewhere around 2010, in my opinion, things really started changing. My folks were able to purchase some good quality izod shirts that I still own from Walmart. Now, it seems like everything that I get from there degrades quickly. I don't enjoy going there anymore; in fact, if I can help it, I will make Walmart the first store that I go to in a shopping run so I don't have to think about going there later on. As a kid, Walmart was our last stop, and the one that I enjoyed the most. Thanks for making me remember those yellow stickers @coyote_302; that was a good memory. :)
David Ross you are not wrong about the items degrading. I work for one Supercenter and I am not a big fan of the low quality merchandise. Granted, I believe if the people actually were happy working there, I think it would be better.
Ah yes, the days of stacking high and selling it cheap, taking care of customers and associates alike and treating them with respect. Oh how I'm missing those days
Their electronics department used to be amazing in the late 90's-early 00's; there was a huge selection of videos games for PC, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and SEGA. There was also a ton of great selections for movies and music, too. Now, at least the few stores I've been to, the department has decreased dramatically and their selection for movies and games are almost non-existent in comparison to back then. They do have a nice selection of vinyl records, though haha.
In the mid 90s and earlier they also used to stock a small amount of PC components. CPUs, Hard drives, RAM, videocards, etc. As well as a whole wall of PC games and applications. It used to be a better store.
@@Dooblecaine The same with gaming as a whole. Nowadays PC as a brand is stagnating because Valve's Steam holds a huge monopoly of digital games. Nobody cares about doing physical for pc games.
I miss all the movies and electronics. Now mine doesn’t even have an associate there, just a couple huge bins of old 5 dollar dvds, big empty cases where the electronics were, can’t even go to this one for some AirPods lol. Used to have big shelves of the newest movies, glass cases of video games long deals with headphones speakers game stations and tv’s. It’s crap man
Most people would want to go back in time to stop/change events for their benefit. I’d want to go back in time just to see the old versions of stores and see the ones that were still around.
@@angellockheart4272 we have their pictures above the fridge in the break room. It’s really sad , they should at least have a table or something or not have those pictures at all. Pretty sure a few took their own which is super sad but I’m sure corporate won’t investigate into why. Not to mention one of the peoples sons worked there too and management wasn’t too happy that he couldn’t show up for a few days. It was clear the kid was depressed but they kept adding onto his work load until he quit or got fired. My boss is constantly stressing over the simplest of things. We are majorly understaffed too. I run the sporting counter and paint counter so if you need paint while I’m making a license you have to wait because there’s only one of me, unless I get lucky and my boss is there that day. Good luck getting spray paint while I’m making a license or mixing paint too because I’m the only one with the keys you have to wait. I’m honestly looking for something better , Walmart keeps adding stuff to do when people quit. Most of the time it’s hard to please the customers when they’ve been waiting at the counter for 20 minutes all because I was a few isles over doing stock or in the back putting things into the bins or getting freight. I try my best to make them happy but they say I should do better. Sorry I can’t be two places at once.
@@osvaldomagdaleno-perez5520 And now Walmart is getting back in the game with their online shopping. Walmart is literally everywhere, even at our fingertips.
The old, non-supercenter Walmart from my childhood is a locale that comes up frequently in my dreams for some reason. Inside the store, the vestibule entrance with the arcade games and coin op machines, and the parking lot that was shared with the United supermarket next door.
It’s really strange that Wal-Mart has always been a huge staple of America but it doesn’t really feel that way. I always felt like it was a recent 2000’s things, I never see it mentioned or even shown in movies or mention in news pr media back then.
I remember when my town got a super center. We were the first in Tennessee and one of the first in the nation, I believe. It was like 93 or 94. It was mind blowing as a kid. They had a massive bakery and donut area with as many types of donuts as you can imagine. Fresh baked bread.. tons of live fish in tanks, toys galore. It was truly amazing for my small community to get such a big store. Unfortunately Walmart has changed so much over the years and not for the better.
I miss the WAL★MART of my early childhood (2001-06). Even back in the day, it had the old grungey ‘90s feel that I sorely miss. I miss the blue bags with the yellow smiley faces, the chipped up flooring tile, the flickering sign out front. Those were the days.
I have had 2 Supercenters in my area for as long as I can remember. Looking back, I can remember Walmart being a more interesting place to shop. They used to sell all kinds of specialty stuff, but they stopped I guess because it cost too much to maintain. I remember Walmart almost looking darker and kinda more chill, but that could just be my imagination. Nowadays, they seem to design everything around making the most money possible, not making things cheap without compromise. Seriously, one of the Walmart stores in my area now has one way gates at the entrance to keep people from stealing stuff. Also, before corona, they had people scanning every receipt for some reason similarly to Sam's, just while still having the buzzers, unlike Sam's. I'm glad they stopped that because of the pandemic. The other Walmart in my area actually still doesn't have the gates and still feels a little more like an old Walmart since it hasn't been heavily remodeled recently, but Walmart just doesn't feel quite the same anymore.
I was a Driver for Wal-Mart from 1997 to 2011 almost 14 years. I was proud to be a wal-mart driver and wear the uniform as much as I was when I served my country in the U.S. Navy from 1971 -1975. Sadly wal-mart took a turn for the worse starting in about 2006. Nowdays they are just a shadow of what they used to be. Actually the downturn started just after Mr. Sams death in 1992 but as long as Helen was around those who wanted to change the company could only move slowly. Everything Sam believed in and worked for is gone now. Nobody even knows what the "10 foot rule" is anymore. The name needs to be changed to "CHINA JUNK Mart" the way they operate now. Sad Sad Sad
I can remember the local Wal-Mart in my town growing up was the size of a Dollar General of now days. Shows how much they have exploded since the early-mid 90's.
I remember when I was a kid my mom used to always let me get movies like barney and blue's clues and I used to get bubbles and pudding when I was little and I had some wonderful memories at my favorite store
Many of us are asking. Why is Walmart so bad now? Well that is because its less family driven and run. There employs are treated terribly , doesnt matter if you have been with the company for 20 years. You are seen and treated as a day one employee in probation. I wish it was run and operated as is intended and not by investors or by a board.
At that time, Walmart has been opened in my country Indonesia mainly in Jakarta (main city) in 1995 which was located in Megamall Pluit (later known as Pluit Village Mall) but after 3 years it closedown due to 1997 Asian Financial Crisis and later replaced by Carrefour Indonesia (later acquired by Trans Retail in 2013) which currently converts to Transmart since 2020 then on.
Kmart was attempting to be like Walmart in the 1990s but had to rely on suppliers like SuperValu and Fleming to stock their supercenters. Instead of advertising and building their own grocery distribution center in a manner how Walmart has done for their supercenters, the supercenters weren't advertised as much. As a result, many supercenter constructions were halted and were retooled to be built as regular Kmart stores. As a result of the 2002 bankruptcy, 12 Super kmarts were closed and in 2003, Kmart closed 58. Walmart tried to enter the South Korean and German markets but failed and withdrawn in 2006.
I started in 2005, and yes many things have changed that seems to screw us over. Sam was a great man and I loved meeting him when I was 8. I wanted to start Walmart when I graduated in 1999, but my mom talked me into going to college. The best thing about college was meeting my wife. Walmart was awesome when I first started, but it has slowly changed for not the better. I believe the teaming system will bring us back to where Walmart used to be for the associates though. It's getting things back to basics and leaving all the bullcrap behind.
Walmart here in gun barrel city athens tx n balch springs tx seagoville gone south. Customer service not good. So many employees are happy. I worked for few months in 95. Sad 😢
I got my first pair of glasses and eye checkup at Walmart and I remember walking outside and being amazed at the little rocks in the asphalt. I love going to Walmart lol that's sad but true.
My Grandmother was an intensely loyal Walmart Shopper and in the last 30 years of her life she was an equally loyal Sam's Club Member after they opened a location about 20 minutes from us. Whenever she was in Beaumont Texas whether she was low or not she would always stop at the Sam's Club there for gas.
Anyone remember Walmart having a big periscope in the corner of an aisle? You look into it and looked like you were looking into space? (I'm probably wrong with it being space but that's what I'm remembering). I can't find any of it online. I grew up with this and they removed it around 2007+ I can't pinpoint but it's been so long.
I was in highschool in the early 90s 1991-1995. Now in 2023 they are mostly supercenter. theres no more single stores if you found a state that has a walmart the old way were it was the size of a dollar store it'll be rare.
I remembered the 1st time in going to a Walmart. It was in June 1989 with my grandparents. I was in and out of the store because of my grandparents. I went to the same Walmart with my parents shortly after that first time. Where I was from there was a Walmart close towards my home about 1 mile away. That was in 1991. It was a little bit bigger and a nicer one. There is one that I still liked to go that is near me but, it is about 40 minutes away from my home. I don’t mind driving towards it. It was a smaller one and in 2012 a new one was built near the old one. The new one is a super Walmart. It is a bigger store. I don’t mind in going to it for my shopping needs.
Mr. Sam Wallton should've met with founder of world-famous Banda El Recodo, Mr. Cruz Lizarraga, the father of Mexico's Sinaloan-band music. Mr. Lizarraga had a similar "rags-to-riches" type of situation to that of Mr. Walton, but in the regional mexican music industry, instead. Even though the Sinaloan-band music genre already existed before Mr. Lizarraga got involved, he is considered the tather of the genre since he got rid of some and introduced new musical instruments that made the genre catchy and fun-sounding. El Recdo de Cruz Lizarraga has the special title of "Mother of all Sinaloan-Bands" and is considered the "Harvard University of Sinaloan-Band". Fun Fact: Just like Mr. Walton has a museum dedicated to him on what was his 5-10 store, Mr. Lizarraga's birthhouse at the Mexican State of Sinaloa was repurposed as a museum dedicated to Mr. Lizarraga too.
Didn't they have syrup pumps (cherry, chocolate, vanilla) that you could mix with your soda? I seem to be the only one remember them having that so far. I used to mix cherry and chocolate with either my Dr Pepper or Coca Cola. I never used the vanilla because I hated vanilla when I was a kid. But someone please tell me if I'm remembering right or not. 😭
There's a movie where a woman secretly lives in a Walmart and has her baby in Walmart too. I think it's called Where the Heart Is and it has Natalie Portman in it.
Walmart was something back in the day. Now, what with all these fights that take place in store and weirdos causing trouble on the premises etc., its like the kind of company that Jerry Springer should have been made CEO of.
AlbertWesker203 They did but it’s not all Walmart’s fault. Kmart didn’t take care of their stores they let them get outdated. Then they merged with sears another failing company. The sad thing is the CEO of Sears and Kmart won’t do anything about it.
Kmart and sears killed themselves! As Walmart adjusted with the change in times, kmart and sears were lost in the past and that concept nowadays doesn't work. You don't want to update stores or be competitive and treat consumers with lower prices and more selection you mine as well dig your grave as a retailer. I love Walmart and there stores are always up to date and usually have the things I need at the best prices so why shop elsewhere.
Nothing is forever. I'm sure Kmart thought that they would never go under. 20 years and everyone will be saying Walmart who.? Some people don't live long after getting cancer my grandma died within three weeks of finding out she had it. I think a lot of people think they would have a year but a lot don't.
Whenever my parents brought me here, I'd go straight to the game or music department. I miss when Walmart let us preview CDs before purchasing. Now, CDs are going out of style.
