The opening Reeses segment was pure, unexpected bliss!!! Understand, many of us live for the distractions and digressions of the two of you bantering over the inane, and nonsensical!!! You two, and especially these segments of in depth, thoughtful insight into aspects of the Disney "beast" both good/great or bad/sad represent unique content not found elsewhere. The niche is real, and you guys are have found a winner here. Thank you from New Jersey.

The issues people have with the pricing policy specifically concern the following: hidden charges; being nickel-and-dimed; the perceived gouging at the restaurants; and, above all else, the extortion that is Genie+, whereby people are paying to cut in line in front of other people and to make their experience worse. Walt Disney described such things as "sharp practices designed to milk the visitor's pocketbook."
What a great episode! I’m glad that this topic was finally brought to light because I’m so tired of seeing people fight about what Walt would and wouldn’t say.
The original Reese's is the perfect ratio of peanut butter to chocolate. The tree is too much peanut butter to the amount of chocolate. As Remy said, when flavors are combined it creates a whole new experience.
The Tam ‘O Shanter restaurant a few blocks from Walt’s Hyperion studio is still there. Walt’s table is still there to dine at and you can order a Scotch mist made with Buchanans whiskey exactly like Walt ordered it.
He (EM) was never a genius, that was all just personal PR, and self delusion. He has not really created anything, he is a Venture Capitalist is all. Someone who has bought companies and paid other people to do the work then see takes the credit for. He tries to sell his wealth off as some form of great intelligence. His first company was bought out, and then he was so terrible in the new role at PayPal that they forced him out, and gave him huge play out. That then really snowballed his VC endeavours, bought Tesla, and partnered with others to start his other companies (which outside of SpaceX have done nothing. SpaceX only survived as it was near exclusively funded by the US Gov), where each has had to be run by someone else because he was so disastrous at it. I am always shocked when learn that the Reese packs only contain two cups. Here in Canada we get three per pack. A question, if when Walt created Disneyland, had he bought enough land in Anaheim that is comparable in size to Disney World, would Disney World have ever been created? Would Disney World be a small park like Disneyland? Could two large Disney World sized parks function in the US? Just after Eric talked about athleasure and "not Lulu Lemon" a Lulu Lemon add came on. The power of the algorithm.
I went to Hollywood Studios for the first time ever a few weeks ago and was not prepared for how confusingly laid out and claustrophobic that park would be. I loved Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and even liked Epcot despite it's construction issues... but I'll never go back to Hollywood studios. That place gave me so much anxiety. I thought the Star Wars land was ugly, too. Of all the beautiful places you could have brought to life from that universe -- take me to Hoth, Endor, Dagobah, not some ugly rock planet! So disappointing. Also not a fan of the rides without clear signage. I know they want to immerse guests in the environments, but PLEASE put signs on the Star Wars and Avatar rides. It's not going to pull us out of the fantasy any more than a million tourists with strollers will. Hate to be negative, as I'm a huge Disney fan. At least we still have the OG park, Magic Kingdom! It holds up very well, imho. And Animal Kingdom was beautiful and peaceful.
The original manager of Disneyland was in charge of licensing the merchants of Main Street and his tenure did not last much longer than The Wizard of Bras due to Walt's disapproval.

I love this podcast and I hope you'll keep 'em coming! A small and cynical part of me (that I'm not particularly proud of) wonders if EPCOT's mission statement being "the future could be even better than the present" went away because... a lot of people now strongly believe that there is no future at all for our planet. And on top of that pessimistic outlook, those "leaders of industry" who sponsored the original attractions are perceived as being the biggest contributors to that worsening future. It's probably not that deep, and a more likely reason is money/merch/"synergy"/whatever but just something that kept rattling around in my brain as I listened.
As a European, I must inform you that coca-cola (and Fanta) have been popular in Europe for decades. Maybe they're even more popular now in France, but I don't think '92 Euro Disney visitors would be at all shocked at people drinking Coke.🤣 Oh also, I must say, Italian vino is much better in general.😉
15 mins in , I’m loving the snack talk! I get the Cheez its being better in box. I think V-8 is better from a can, maybe because I grew up with the huge can that you had to poke the triangle holes into the top. Damn, I’m old!
Have you had the potato chip reese's cups? I agree as a Canadian our chocolate is better and there is soooo much more variety of everything in US grocery stores you probably don't appreciate it lol. Love cross border "grocery" shopping and just wandering the aisles.
I think Walt rolls a bit every time he shows up at MCO and cant find the Magical Express. What a way to bring your dreams right back to the ground. Get it together Disney!!!
Outlaw Humidity... Disney could do it... Lets put a GIANT dome over each of the parks, with an always sunny sky being projected. It could work! How amazing would it be for each park to be temperature controlled!!
This was hard to watch. Eric is clearly afraid to openly disagree with Tom. I think this type of situation would feel more entertaining and fun if Tom was more open to differing opinions. I like Eric and almost 100% of the time agree with him and would like to hear more from him.
I remember the first time I took my family to WDW in 2000 and people were taken aback that Disney had just raised one day park prices over the $50 mark for the first time. On top of that, the break-even point for annual passes was about 8 days. My how things have changed.

I find it funny that they acknowledged how wonderful international Kit Kats are considering everywhere but the US nestle makes Kit Kats and the lack of flavors in the US is because Hershey makes them here. Basically slammed Hershey’s inferior Kit Kats after receiving a gift from a Hershey employee😂😂😂

Knowing how much Walt cared deeply about esthetics...we all know that leaving a dirt crater in the MIDDLE of a park would have made Walt's head explode. Walt might have said: "Get that that construction done in 12-18 months or you are fired" Burbank today is OK to let that crater rot there for 5 years.
There is also the loint that meta and the gram have 2 huge lawsuits going against them in reference to little kids n older men. If iger was going to say twitters beliefs or values dont align, its not a good fit, then one would think due to the lawsuits they wouldnt advertise on either of those platforms.
Any top, rated business school, such as Wharton school of business, will tell you that pricing is based on what the market will bear. I understand this and I know I’m going to pay to enjoy what Disney offers. It’s a pay for play environment. The only thing That I find offensive about pricing is when I renewed my annual pass in March. I was able to get a park pass for the Magic Kingdom on January 1. I looked at blackout dates in November, that date was no longer available.
Is there a reason why this and the last podcast episode aren't being posted to Spotify? I listened to the first 10 episodes when driving to-and-from work, but now they're no longer showing up there, making my commute a lot quieter the last few weeks.
Original Reeses are the GOAT but I never refuse an alternate version. Another Chocolate and Peanut Butter snack which is under appreciated is Little Debbie's Peanut Butter Crunch Bars. Hard to find.
It’s a common practice of guests bringing in their own alcohol, and who knows what kind of meds/pills people are on. It’s way beyond alcohol. 🥃 Americans are popping pills 💊 like tic tacs, and walking around high 24/7.
49:13 I saw the Exorcist 2 for the first time this year, and I didn't hate it, but the lore wasn't what I liked about it. They probably should have just left it out altogether and made a stand alone movie with different characters.

Roy O. Disney did pretty much everything possible to thwart Walt Disney's ambitions, as they related to Disneyland. This revisionist history that Roy O. Disney was helpful seemingly has come from Roy E. Disney, the former Vice Chairman of the company.
I love Reese's and potato chips inside for that sweet and salty combo. Great podcast as usual. Walt would be stunned that so many parks existed around the world, but would pick and choose what things have the energy and innovation that would give him pride.

For the reese's debate you should give the reese's bars a try as they seem to have a similar ratio of chocolate to peanut butter as the seasonal shapes to me As for the things walt is shaking his head at, I agree
Reeses Take 5 wins! Trick-or-treater once saw KitKats in my bowl and proclaimed that "Kit-Kat is my jam!"... such personality. Such joy from seeing a candy bar. The Costco tiny peanut butter cups were fantastic.. haven't seen em for awhile and always wondered if Hersey's made them for them.
I stopped going to Disneyland when they took away everyone’s pass during the pandemic. Then as the prices leaped up to go to a park where 1/4+ of the park is down and under construction. I and my friends don’t miss not going to Disneyland based on how bad all the reports keep piling up on Disneyland
