From Season 4 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 3: Adventure in Wildwood Heart which originally aired on September 25th, 1957. Walt opens the show in the studio Morgue, the central area to store data that might be needed in future projects. All of the Studio's major films have benefited from the facts and pictures stored there, and he uses clips from several past productions to illustrate his point. Walt then introduces Winston Hibler, who tells how the Studio researched and filmed Felix Salten's story of Perri, soon to be seen in theaters as a True-Life Fantasy. This episode can be found on the True-Life Adventures DVD set (Volume 4), but I've been making exceptions for behind-the-scenes and documentary presentations from this hard to find DVD volume! Some clips from the film, Perri had to be removed due to copyright.

Perri is a timeless classic that paved the way for the nature shows we see today. Disney was truly ahead of his time. The book, the movie, the narration of the story, the scenery, and the personalities of the animals is what makes these shows so spectacular. Blessed to have lived through this time, and as mentioned below, Perri, too is my favorite after "Melody Time" and they are both on Disney+!

A nice extended appearance by Walt on this episode! Very nice! Neat plug for the next season of the MMC at the very end.

43:31, that’s Paul Smith, I recognize from the eyebrows. And what a fabulous portfolio he’s got. Snow White, Pinocchio, Cinderella, the animated sequences for Song of the South, So Dear to My Heart, a bunch of short cartoons and of course The True Life Adventure franchise. And he did a few orchestrations for Bambi (though they’re not his best). I think Smith was superior even to Oliver Wallace. A short documentary about him is seen on the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea DVD. Paul once stated that Cinderella meant as much to him as Snow White meant to Walt.

He’s wonderful! I agree with all of your thoughts here…the greatest Disney composer in my opinion. The vanishing prairie music he wrote is among my favorites…and as you mention, 20,000 Leagues! Thanks for adding this fantastic summary of a great Disney hero!!!

Not to mention the “Triple R Suite” (you knew I’d bring up Spin and Marty somehow, right?)! I’m so glad someone called out. Paul Smith here, I don’t know that I would’ve recognized him. By the way, this was fantastic!!!

I think Walt Disney should know that at the start of the movie, there's a quote from the Bible. It says to everything there is a season. It's from the book of Ecclesiastes.

I remembered that there's 3 other movies with animals in them and they are 1. Dumbo, 2. Lady and the Tramp and 3. 101 Dalmatians.

Wow! I found this absolutely mesmerizing! Not only does it showcase the backroom of the Disney studio, but to see the animators, and the artists and the composers and those intrepid amazing photographers- I was blown away! Imagine, having a degree in English AND photography and choosing to spend three years of your life out in the wilderness photographing critters for Disney!!!! I loved the camaraderie of the young cameramen and their dauntless courage and tenacity. I wonder what happened to those young men? Does anyone know? Is there a book out there somewhere that tells the stories of these men’s lives after this amazing adventure? That’s a Disney docu I want to see! Thanks SO MUCH for posting it. Wonderful, indeed! 🎥📸❤️

There is a True-Life adventure volume by Didier Ghez…it may have some more info on the cameramen! I have yet to purchase it though!
