2009 accident?

In the US Las Vegas & Seattle both have monorails, there are some in Germany & China, and they are fairly common in Japan.

***** Do you know if they are planning on putting monorails anywhere else in the US??

I'm not aware of any plans at this time. Monorails are cheap to operate but very expensive to build track for.

The one in Seattle dosen't go very far.

Aren;t monorail tracks quick to build, though?

Unfortunately passengers haven't been allowed up front since the fatal accident in 2009.

Bryce Wakefield it was a guy who went on lunch break without telling as it was operated by a person, and one was waiting at the station(I believe he died, the one at the station first) and the other monorail was going to the same station and wasn’t aware that another monorail was there and had no time to stop. I might be confusing it with another incident, but I as far as I remember there has never been a incident with passengers even _in_ the cabin- let alone distracting the driver.

The EPCOT line typically has two, and there usually seems to be about three or four each on the Resort/Express beams when I'm there. Can't find any concrete numbers though.

They can be set up to operate every 2 1/2 minutes with the right train-separation software. Most non-theme park systems worldwide keep the train volume to every five minutes or more. The rail itself can support as many trains as will fit on it, end to end to end, so the only restriction is how apart to space them so (a) enough passengers will collect at each station and (b) they're not constantly having to slow down because the train in front of them is stopped at a station. So the same calculations you use for light rail or subway capacity and train headways work for monorails.

It used to be a 4/4/3 rotation regularly...but because EPCOT generally isn't as busy as it once was they drop down to a 4/4/2 rotation (and might up to a 3rd at park close) and occasionally will do less. There's the odd 3/3/2 rotation now and again during off season and at one point they, I believe, were deadheading trains in the middle of day. These ol' girls are 31 years old...and still chuggin' hard...it's just ashame that with all the automation that they instituted they've slowed the trains down. Half the fun comin' out of Contemporary on Lagoon/Resort (depending on era) was to P5 down the hill with speed warnings blaring and then easing back at the bottom before the hold point. Oh the rattles these puppies would make!
