@makoto naegi I’ve been a drummer for years, and not to assume you haven’t, but I think most people who study rhythmic music for a long time pick up just how rhythmic human speech is. Not just lyrically in the case of Shakespearean songs. But most things said naturally fall in rhythmic alignment without intention.
@makoto naegi you said there’s no intentional rhythm behind it, yet we both just watched a video of bryan cranstons voice perfectly syncing in commonly played musical subdivisions to one constant tempo. Yes the time between phrases has been altered but the individual phrases themselves followed not just “any series of sounds” implying they were random and the music was altered throughout to make it fit, they fell in line rhythmically in a way that’s typical in western music. What I said was meant to be taken generally and not super concretely, as if you can just take a whole ass podcast with 1 beat and expect music. I meant within phrasing our speech is generally naturally rhythmic in a way that follows common western music subdivisions. But by pointing out that there’s “no intentional” rhythm behind it you kinda made my point. Cheers
@makoto naegi yeah man it is fine lol I just disagree that since he spoke in rapid succession they “of course could fit it.” I’ve heard plenty of rappers/singers with no sense of musical rhythm and you can feel that the subdivisions of their syllables within the beat are all off, yet it’s common for the syllables to near perfectly align when people are just speaking unintentionally. Maybe you see it as random chance, maybe I see it subconsciously imbedded in our common speech patterns, which I would agree aren’t natural from our bodies but more of a social construct.
@makoto naegi I think it's more about where he places emphasis and pause on words; it feels like a natural flow of syllables, not like someone reading a script aloud for the first time with no idea what the tone should be. It's difficult to explain, but it just feels right. And I never said that all actors have to speak rhythmically to be good, just that they have the ability to. There doesn't need to be an intent of rhythm for there to be one. It happens in nature all the time. Sometimes it kinda just happens, and humans are just lucky enough to be able to pick up on it.
