This is the gun I carry. Accuracy is off the charts even with the less than spectacular sights. And it's probably the most ergonomic gun I've ever held.
As an instructor for 25 years, I have the honor of specializing in instructing beginner shooters, older mature people, people with disabilities, etc ., This pistol is perfect for people with restricted strength in their hands and fingers. I carry the original CCP. Looking forward to picking up the new M2 version for class use. Thanks for the great review. I appreciate your very professional, informative review.
Watching you shoot at 7 yards and putting all of the shots almost in the same hole and in the bulls says a lot about your marksmanship and the quality of this firearm. Well done.
The original CCP is the most ergonomic pistol I have ever handled. It’s extremely easy to rack and in fact my wife uses it as her primary carry. It’s a great shooter. The only real problem with it was the takedown. It was a pain in the butt to field strip and especially to put back together. Now that they’ve modified the take down procedure I will be buying a new CCP M2.
David & Elizabeth well they didn’t have to, it won’t fire with the magazine removed. The safety billboards you talk about usually say gun will fire with magazine removed.
I had a chance to shoot a recent manufacture first-gen CCP not long ago, and it is a surprisingly good pistol. I fills a nice in size between the PPS, Shield, XDs size and a Glock 19, is very accurate, and quite soft shooting. I do agree about the sights being a little small (particularly for my old eyes), but I find that throughout the Walther line.
Initially, I was considering the XDS Mod.2 for my wife. She ripped a tendon in her index finger a year ago and now struggles with recoil and the trigger pull of her LC9. This review has given me another option for her to try. Thank you
Dam, i need to get one of those Walther's. That is a great upgrade from the original CCP version 1. Another great review Soocth00 and long live the republic Sir.
I had considered purchasing the original CCP, but passed on it because it required a Dyngus. I was not aware that they had retrofitted this pistol. It’s a much better price alternative to the H&K P7 that sells for about 3500 dollars. I’m glad that it is still a well kept secret on how fantastic this pistol is. I’m ecstatic that I ran into this older video.
Wow! Very nice! You can't go wrong with Walther. I have an Interarms-manufactured PPK/s that I bought used. The pistol was pretty well worn, and over the years I've needed to send it in to Walther's factory for repair. Both times the repair was completed completely free-of-charge, even though I am not the pistol's original owner.
Severe arthritis had me looking for an alternative to my G23. While simply shopping around, a CCP lept from the case, threw me to the ground and made me take it home. Just like my first sidearm 40 years ago, a PPK/S, it was Walther coming to save me.
I agree with most of the comments, my favorite carry from all the other compacts that I own. I’ve had mine for about a year and half. I don’t agree with the fact that the heat it generates is not to bad. At around 100 rounds it start getting really hot where you have to let it cool off before you continue.
I know this is an older video, but I think I will buy one of these if the reviews are good. My buddy has the 22 and it's great and I like how this one is soft shooting and concealable, etc. ❤ Thanks for the review sir .
I'm looking for my wife's first handgun. So far, it has been a tie between the Smith EZ and the CCP M2, but I'm leaning toward the CCP after watching Sootch's video. Have you had a chance to shoot yours yet?
@floorpizza8074 Yes! It's definitely smooth. My favorite "womans" handgun so far. I only wish it had the option of larger magazines, but thinking about that, it wouldn't be too practical for a gun that size to have larger magz anyways. It's for self-defense mostly, not shooting practice. It just gives you more practice quickly exchanging magz and very accurate even from a distance if you have any skill level. It's just fun to shoot! You do have to almost completely let off the trigger each time you fire as most of these videos will tell you, but to me, that's good practice anyway. My husband got it as a mothers day gift for me and I couldn't be happier with it. My woman's sized hand really grips the handle like sliding on a perfect fitting pair of gloves. Easy to rack, too. I also like how it doesn't have that front barrel "safety feature" some lesser handguns have (like my ones that are legal in Commifornia-where if its being pressed against it wont fire) if someone is on top of me trying to victimize me I want to fill them with holes 🙌🏽 I have nothing but good things to say about it! I bet your wife would love it!
@@Trad-Mom Thank you very much for the response! I just called the local range, and they actually have CCP M2's in both 9mm and 380 auto available to rent, so I'm going to head up there with her and see what she thinks! She's reading your response over my shoulder right now. :)
@floorpizza8074 Awesome yah that's a good idea. I actually wear mine almost everywhere I go. I dont want to ever need it when I dont have it! It's small, so it's easy to wear, and "cute" esp on a woman obviously lol... Well hello to the Mrs 👋🏼 I hope you enjoy it as much as I do Mrs Floorpizza. Smart husband, real women occaisionally want guns for gifts 🔫 Happy wife, happy life! God bless y'all 🙏🏽
@@Trad-Mom Hey, just thought I'd give you an update... she fell in love with two guns... The CCP M2 in 380, and the Glock 42. Since I already have a G42 as one of my daily carry guns, she decided to go with the CCP M2, as long as I agreed to swap out with her from time to time, depending on which gun filled her need for the day better; the G42 is quite a bit smaller. Thanks again for your input! She's thrilled with her late Mother's Day gift. : )
I have the original ccp and the take down isn't as bad as people make it out to be. After doing it once or twice you get the hang of it and can easily do it with a small allen wrench or whatever will fit in the little hole. Great ergonomics, makes you feel like you can hit anything!
The US military has spent so much time abroad fighting foreign wars. Soon it will be time to defend the US from the domestic enemies (antifa, communists and similar scum), along with anti-white militant black racists (using the BLM façade) they're forming armed groups now, just wait until they start acting out by their creed and attacking US citizens, it's domestic terrorism
My beautiful and amazing Princess oh antifa are scum because they are black but yet the government allows companies to poison your food and water..fuckin sheep sit down..your time almost up... Mr.recessive gene 🤣
Great review of a fun little pistol. I'm an HK P7M8 user for the past 30 years so I have followed this CCP pistol because of my interest in the gas delay system. I was happy that some company finally picked up that concept. I think the gas delay system is great in the P7, I have always loved it. My only small criticism of the video is that at 14:30 you say "Recoil guide rod". It is actually the gas delay piston. Yes, this design isn't really meant for shooting more than 100 rounds at a time because of that heat build up but that system does help with accuracy. Sorry about the long reset. Nice to see the gas delay system find a polymer frame (not that the P7 was ever a problem, easily the most concealable 9mm ever; wish they still made it). For the life of me I just can't imagine anyone ever using that frame mounted safety, too bad we can't just remove it. The extra tool included in the package (you show at the 16 minute mark) is for removing that gas piston. With all three of my P7 pistols, over thirty years, I've never had to remove a gas piston. The owner's manual for the CCP says the only time a person would need to remove the gas piston is to change the front sight, which I've never had to do on a P7. Great review Sootch, thanks.
He is also wrong with the claim that it has soft recoil. The gas delay system produce rather a sharp harsh recoil compared to the browning tilting barrel system.
We bought the CCP (not m2) for our 1st handgun. It will be the wifes cc. About 800 rounds through it, and love it. Ergonomics are top notch and the wife is super accurate with it. The gritty trigger pull has smoothed out so no big. It shoots great! Better sights would be my only real change.
Ha! That's exactly the same thing I said when I picked up the CCP. It was like they had me squeeze a blob of modelling clay and molded the grip out of it. I commented it on FB. :) That accuracy is absolutely incredible!
I owned 3 of them, I would have 1 or 2 malfunctions every 50 rounds. I wanted it to work so well I just kept buying and selling them to see if I could get a good one. It’s the flattest shooting gun I’ve ever shot. Also the most ergonomic handgun I’ve ever had.
I was thinking hard on the original CCP but that new take down makes it even sweeter. I love Walther firearms. I own the PPS M2 and Creed already. I will eventually have the PPQ as well.
Very accurate gun but you are a good shooter with any gun, lol... Thank you for the great review.. I always check your reviews before I buy anything. Ty
@@sootch00 Funny, I was thinking this exact thing just before reading this post. Lol Love your videos, sootch. I have learned SO much while being entertained at the same time. I wish you n your well!
Pretty coo sootch! I've tried to replace my g19 multiple times and always go back, but for others it would be a great choice! If you are a 1911 guy this would be awesome with safety, single stack and size.
So I have the original CCP when they first came out and it is and absolutely phenomenal self defense weapon. Fixed barrel for more accuracy It has a piston system for less recoil and when the safety is on it removes the firing pin so if you were to drop the gun with one in the chamber it will not fire when the safety is on. Accuracy is unbelievable for this little handgun it makes me look like a pro when shooting. I’ve shot it up 25 yards away it was very accurate. Easy to carry its slim and light even when fully loaded. Great for self defenseBecause it is not a long canon That is uncomfortable to carry and you don’t notice it when it’s on u. I would highly recommend this handgun!!!!!
I literally went out to buy one of these. I love this pistol - outstanding ergonomics, striker fired, thumb safety, perfect conceal carry size, .380 or 9mm, established Walther quality. BUT: Right hand only thumb safety? No optics cut? I could have lived with the right hand only safety; but the lack of an optics option killed the deal (yes, I searched for someone to mill the slide..could not find even ONE - and Walther made no referral when I contacted them). I then tested out the the Sig P365xl and Springfield Hellcat Pro. I bought the Sig 🤷♂️
I really enjoyed your video on the Walter CCP M2 and it is going to be my next firearms purchase. I have hand strenght problems due to injuries and have trouble racking the slides on most semi-auto pistols. The Walher seems to be just what I need to keep enjoying my shooting sport. Thank you for the GREAT review on this firearm!!!
Great EDC ( CCP) 9mm . I own the Model 1 and I'm fine with that, this little auto is a perfect size pistol. If your buying this pistol you'll want the model 2. You will love the egonomics and shootablity of this Walther CCP, carries very comfortable.
You don't need the proprietary tool. A small screwdriver will release the latch fine when performing the disassembly procedure for general maintenance and/or repair.
i am 26 male who has had arthritis pop up at the base of my spine, with concerns about his future hand stregnth as the arthritis could also develope in my hands. This is due to an auto immune disease. Thus the CCPM2 is perfect for myself even though my hands are still good, they might not be in a few years.
The only real upgrade for me is the improved take-down & I’m not sure that’s enough for me to buy another. Had there been an increased magazine size, then I’d feel more inclined.
Getting old arthritis is bothering me I'm going to seriously consider this .I carry a sub compact recoil is an issue these days I have a CZP10 but fond it to big to carry bedside buddy .....This pistol looks very ergonomic makes me very interested thanks excellent video.GOD bless the republic.
Another great review Sootch. I’ve always been a Walther fan. My buddy has a CCP and I loved shooting it. I have the Magnum Research MR 40 Eagle... (basically a Walther) it’s obvious the frame was made by Walther, and once again a Great shooting, reliable pistol !
You better know what you're doing when u take the original one apart...if you're to rough and you break off that roll pin you will be calling Walther! Took me a while to figure it out and it does take practice...nice firearm though and you're right...it does get hot!
I have really loved shooting the Walther single stacks. They have great triggers and recoil. The CCP 2 having a much easier takedown is great! This definitely merits looking into. Their full size pistols have a bore axis which is too high and don't seem to really be worth it, but I love their small pistols
Interesting my father had a H&k p7 m8 and that is in my opinion the greatest self defense pistol of all time and this is similar but the h&k had a dual ejector Incase the first one failed every round you fired had the rim of the casing chewed up they just grip it and fling it out but I also remember that after 15 rounds the trigger was so hot you had to walk away and wait for it to cool down before you could shoot again due to steel trigger but it’s awsome to see this design again it’s a interesting mechanical design
My wife has the original CCP and it’s a picky. It likes ammo on the hotter side. Just not reliable enough for me for her to carry so she now has 380EZ Shield which she loves. I have heard others say the same thing. It will run 124GR Winchester white box the NATO stuff all day. As her G1 is such a picky gun I won’t even consider the M2. The breakdown is no big deal to me or my wife. As always great review and great video.
I have the CCP. I purchased it for a lot of reasons and yes, your review played a part of it. It is a pain in the butt to disassemble, you said so in the original review. It seems to me that if they improved the takedown, they should offer to upgrade the existing firearms and allow the customers the opportunity to send the pistol in to the factory to be updated, at the customers expense. I would never purchase a new pistol just for the convenience of the take down improvement. I purchased the firearm knowing it was a pain in the butt.
Thanks for this review, strongly considering this for my wife. She has some hand strength problems from repetitive stress injuries and surgery, in addition to having very small hands. She's a great shot with my MkII, but I'd like to get her something a bit more useful for PD.
Seems like the construction of the CCP M2 is much like an old Galesi Brescia model 9 as far as the fixed barrel and firing mechanism is concerned. Basically a more modern and heavier duty version considering the Brescia is a .25 auto
I was really loving this pistol until I noticed the manual safety. I prefer a trigger safety. Back to the VP9SK though I would like something slimmer. Ugh
Interesting. Maybe I'll get the old one and try it again.... The main issue is that strange takedown and most important: size. 8rds and it's almost the size of that G19! plus the weird safety.....for that....I stay w G19. Agree it's an interesting system and very accurate. They run dirty inside....which forces you to clean it if you want it to run smooth (opposite of piston rifles)
Awesome review on the Walther Arms CCP M2. I have looked around for a couple of weeks and thought I was relegated to using the S&W MP shield 380 EZ as a soft shooting/racking CCW to go with the curtailed strength of my right wrist - not personally happy downgrading to the .380 caliber. Your review gave me a better alternative to the .380 CCW. As for your major "con" of dim sights, Truglo makes the Tritium Pro Night Sights for the CCP - a no brainer to me. The quality of the review convinced me to do something I normally do NOT do - subscribe. :-)
I honestly wouldn't fret over settling for a .380 caliber gun. Outside of the all-important factor of "knowing when it is legally justified to shoot someone in self-defense", shot placement is by far the most important thing to consider. The .380 with proper defensive ammo like Sig V-Crown or Hornady Critical defense can easily hit the FBI gold standard of 14" penetration with .5" expansion. That will drop anyone that is coming at you.
Just bought mine for $300. I haven't gotten a chance to go to the range with it yet. Update: It's a FANTASTIC gun to shoot. I had a lot of fun breaking it in.
It’s not that I’m stupid, I’m just lazy. Now, I’m going to get me one of these bad boys. Hell, I waited for Ruger to release the Mark IV before I bought one of their .22’s.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 it's not about being stupid......what other pistol do you know of needs a tool to take down? You got to hand it to them.....they reworked the whole slide internals and came up with an ingenious improvement......maybe they should have copied the P7.....a simple button.
+Adrian Otero I'm not a big fan of the new mechanism. I agree the P7 style button would have been better. The old mechanism could be broken down with your thumb nail if you knew how to do it.
Nice review as always, thanks for admitting losing your take down tool, I thought I was the only one lose stuff like that. Does this Walther come without a manual safety? God bless you brother and keep up the fight.
A friend broke her elbow and needs something super easy to rack. I was amazed at how easy it was to operate the slide. Is there a still easier pistol to rack?
As far as specs go it’s not far off from a Glock 19 in terms of size and weight. Even being a single stack with 8 rounds I don’t believe the grip is much thinner if at all and it’s taller. But I do dig the look and the external safety.
Great review ,I Wanted the original ccp but did not buy it for the awful take down and trigger reset, Now they corrected the take down but Why did they not correct the trigger reset and have a trigger like the ppq ,it just doesn't make any sense , It would be a Perfect gun ,,But I still like it and would consider buying one
I agree with you, wish it was like the ppq, I don't think I would want to struggle to get that piston and spring back in. I am looking as I said above-I want something with low recoil (wishing in one hand...and crapping in the other.) If I could would go with a .22/.25 The grip on Walthers are just wonderful.
Is the trigger able to be improved by a gunsmith? Particularly, the length of the reset? Is like that shortened and if there is a flat-faced trigger, that would be icing on the cake
Sootch - you mentioned that you needed to get a new take down tool for your original CCP. Walther has a new steel version of the take down tool. Works much better than the polymer tool that came with the original CCP. The polymer tool didn't hold up well in my experience. Now with the steel tool, the take down is easier on the original CCP. I still like my CCP, though I will have to investigate the M2 more closely.
