It may be the best striker fire 9mm to date. I picked one up and it’s great so far. That trigger!! I don’t think I would change anything but the sights. It’s that good!

I love the new grip texture on the PDP. It reminds me a lot of the stippling job I've seen with many custom pistols. I also love that Walther moved the logo to the middle of the slide instead of having it on the front slide serrations. Man I can't wait to get my hands on this.

This is the same size as the Glock 45 or Glock 19x. Difference being Glock capacity with this grip length is 17 VS 15 rounds. Magazines are still probably about $20 cheaper for the Glocks. Apparently Walther didn’t learn from the PPQ when trying to market against Glock.

@@JHunt6352 There's two 5" barrel models too, 15 and 18 rds. I think all the size variations are a little puzzling how redundant they are. I'd have nixed the 4.5" barrel altogether, and only offer the 5" model in 18 rounds

Hey neighbor, finally got to shoot mine last Sunday. She’s accurate. Planning on shooting some plates this weekend to get more time on her. From research and pics, the stock sights co-witness with the RMR. I might add the RMR if I ever get quicker with it. The PDP points very naturally for me.

I would love to see the PPS in 45, it’s kinda oversized for the 9mm and if Springfield can get all 3 calibers in one frame then so can Walter. Or they could at least just make the PPQ 45 hold 13 rounds in a flush mag like the glock.

From 0:27 to 1:25 is spot-on, and explains the development from PPQ to PDP. I think Walther learned from its work with C&H Precision as the contractor of choice for PPS M2 optic mounting, and as you noted, Walther saw how RDSs are becoming more "mainstream" for handguns. Prior to the RDS mainstreaming, slides didn't have to have sufficient bulk for machining to accept a reliable RDS mount. Now they should -- and that does explain the PDP's bulkier slide. We can probably thank Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics, and Scott Jedlinski of Modern Samurai Project, at least partially for that shift on RDS use with handguns. We can probably also thank competitive shooters who have migrated to RDS use where applicable and allowed in competition rules. I'm curious about the evolution of PPQ to PDP and will watch your comparison video after this one. Thanks for this video and for your wise introduction noted above.

Great review as usual! Sweet pistol..damn u I’m so weak and have to buy one now. Liked the PPQ but not enough to buy. The PDP changes that. Love your close up photography montage. Get much better views/ details of the pistol that you would never pickup in a typical RU-vid review.

Great gun, love mine for sure. Recoil is a bit harder than your avergae 9mm IMO, but the trigger and ergos are awesome (my trigger is 3,8 Lbs stock!). Holosun 509T mounted on it and its fine piece. Optic system kinda sucks, just because finding plates in EU is hard, since we dont (?) get free plates here. Should've waited for gen. 2 because you can use Acro and bigger optic sights now.

I always find it surprising how difficult it is to shoot from the first magazine of the day. Shooting without having warmed up is a completely different experience than when you have put a couple mags down range.

I bought a PPQ M2 Navy with the threaded barrel just a few months before the PDP was released. Then I bought the PDP 4" Compact. I was pleased to discover that my threaded barrel is compatible with the PDP. In fact, there is a ton of compatibility between PPQ and PDP parts. I only wish that my PPQ holster fit the PDP, but both the slide and the frame are shaped too differently to fit into a fitted holster. But otherwise you can swap frames and slides between the two pistols, no problem.

The Glock compatibility sights is a step in the right direction for Walther. Aftermarket support has really been it’s Achilles heal. If it would also be compatible with a G19 holster I believe they would grab some of the LE sales market for sure. They have the competition beat hands down with ergonomics, trigger and finish durability in my opinion.

I shoot the PPQ 9 and 45 better than any of my other handguns except the 1911. Their triggers are amazing. Sounds like the PDP has an even better trigger and is optics ready.

@han0509 not really. Are the same if not higher on the Steyr( and It has Also a far better ergo and trigger). I shoot intensively and side by side Glocks (19 and 17 gen 3), a ppq match 5inches, and a Steyr M40(First gen in 40SW, It was Impressive !!!) The slide of the Steyr Is Also ligher than the Glock One. And the grip angle Is more extreme than the Glock one. I'd Like to try the new A2 mf ( Better grip texture and flared magwell ).

Most of these new polymer handgun releases include some lighten cuts on the slide and mount it on a slightly modified P80 grip module. Walther gives us something quite different. Love the content! In comparison do you believe the compact version is the same size as the PPQ M1? According to the website the PPQ has an overall length 7.1" with a 4" barrel and the compact version has an overall length of 7.5" with the same barrel. I guess what my question is...What makes this "Compact" if it is the same size if not bigger than the previous models? I have wanted an updated compact pistol from Walther but if this is slightly larger then its not really considered "Compact". Just wanted your thoughts and thank you for your time.

I honestly think there is an official coin that is used to determine if a pistol is "compact". Every brand has their own criteria - and it is primarily a marketing distinction as opposed to a spec-driven one.

Lamar -- maybe think about how long it takes to develop and QC/QA a new firearm. It takes longer than the duration of a gun-buying fad/fashion. Especially with Walther. If it was already in their pipeline to improve on the PPQ, then they'd have people and money and time committed to that pipeline. You seem to be suggesting they should have improved the PPS M2 instead. If you use the hindsight of the current fad, yes that's true. Do you really think that 3 years ago, you could have foreseen that the Springfield Hellcat (for example) would create such a furor? And how much of that furor is down to the guntubers and gun writers talking about how "game-changing" the Hellcat is, versus what people who have a long history in firearms use think is changing any games?
