Legitimately scary, not to mention thought-provoking. The waltz starts off seemingly harmless, until it's revealed that the Boos join hands in order to form a circle, which closes all avenues for escape, and signals the waltz will not be interrupted because they've all joined hands. It's interesting that even though Luigi finds himself confronted with the Boos most often, it is usually to run away from them or to defeat them after they introduce themselves. Mario, though he has stomped thousands of Goombas and has tangled with Bowser himself on many occasions, takes a moment to listen to their...unique perspective and temporarily sees the world through the Boos' eyes. These lyrics dive into the mind of the Boo and the Boos have a certain logic...which to the Boos, might be innocuous. Perhaps when they were alive, they were faced with extraordinary trials that were so insurmountable that they began to waltz to escape their suffering. But Mario is shaken out of his lethargy when the Boos mention Luigi's waiting is futile. The Boos offer an easy way out of falling into a pit of spikes and other perils which is the waltz, but Luigi being trapped in his own mind is enough to keep Mario from permanently joining the Boos. The monsters in Luigi's mind highlight how Luigi's battles are often mental, and his nemeses try to drive him to madness rather than harming him physically like how Mario's nemeses harm Mario physically. But Luigi, through his fear of the Boos and ghosts in general, indicates that he would never in his right mind join the waltz. The Boos say that he can escape the torment of his mind by joining the waltz, but because before Mario rescued Luigi, Luigi continued to be trapped in his mind, it shows that he did not join the waltz, out of fear but also out of self-preservation. Luigi, who constantly veers towards madness, is able to best fight the Boos because the sensible thing is to accept the Boos' offer and Luigi won't do the sensible thing. Mario, in going to rescue Luigi, is also engaging in a bit of that madness. It's interesting that in Super Paper Mario, Mario might take the game-ending decision, which is actually the more logical thing to do, because to go on a quest where demise is almost certain is not a sensible choice. It's also noticeable that when Luigi is not himself, he's actually the most calm in perilous situations. He is also completely accepting of his game being over, whereas in that instance Mario fights against their games being over, and thus, by Boo logic, Mario is perhaps only partially sane. A last thing I liked about the lyrics is the reference to 1-Ups being a temporary cure: it seems that it's ambiguous-- it's pointless for Mario to get a 1-Up in Boo form, or maybe it's about the inevitability of the waltz.

Awesome analysis! Thanks so much, we’re really glad you enjoyed listening and reading into the songs! Maybe soon we will do a behind the scenes on the writing/creation of the songs for all of you as well. And great game mention with Super Paper Mario! We’ll have to look into that…😉

@GameRecRoom That would be awesome if you are planning to do a behind the scenes on the creation of the Super Mario Galaxy songs and other songs! If you might eventually be doing something on Super Paper Mario, I am curious as to what is your take on Mr. L. His emergence was probably the biggest test of the bond between the bros. I wonder, would Luigi's insecurities have developed into enmity towards Mario without Nastasia's intervention? Does Luigi truly have some kind of dark side that Nastasia simply unleashed? A dark side that also enables him to be fearless and to take charge? It is clear that ordinarily, Luigi tends to see the negative side of things, and gets into situations where he gets taken captive and comes close to losing hope, but he usually doesn't because Mario arrives to help him. But that time, Mario wasn't able to help him, and so he did lose hope. Not all of Count Bleck's minions seem to know his actual plan, but Mr. L seemed to have a better understanding of Count Bleck's plan, and Mr. L seemed to be completely fine with the destruction of an entire world. Rather than giddy, he seems indifferent, or slightly amused. He only becomes malicious towards Peach, Bowser, and especially Mario: those who had let Luigi down by not being there when he needed help. Luigi's disappointment becomes frustration, then hatred, and he tries to destroy those who had given him hope including Mario. Bringing my comment back to the Waltz of the Boos, there's a darkly transcendent feeling given off by the Boos. Luigi just might be the opposite. He doesn't let things go, and he'll remember small slights and return them a thousand fold. Mario tends to let insults slide. Mario, though intense in just about everything he does from leaping across lava pits to throwing a giant turtle by his tail, doesn't seem to be vengeful, and so it's not strange for him to consider waltzing with the Boos. Luigi is mild-mannered but proud, and a certain amount of pride leads to defend one's honor from insults. Luigi has few allies, even less friends, and mostly enemies. He's surprisingly hot-tempered even though Mario is more closely associated with fire. So Luigi's personality is quite unlike the Boos who are more cool-headed, similar to Mario. The Boos thus are more aggressive towards Luigi because Luigi is more aggressive, so they keep him confined in what looks like some kind of cell rather than just ask him to join the waltz. There is a tinge of anticipation in the Boos' saying that Luigi will no longer be lost in his mind if he starts waltzing at the sound of the bell. This does suggest that the Boos hold at least some malice towards Luigi. Also when they say that Luigi's voice gets softer as he loses hope, this suggests that the Boos are not bothered by Luigi's torment and are trying to coerce him, rather than ask him, to join the waltz. But because the Boos captured him, they made themselves his enemy. Luigi's enmity towards the Boos comes out in other games, such as when he vacuums the Boos by their tongues, which is another indication that he is very aggressive when he's slighted. It's notable that Luigi has three archnemeses instead of one: King Boo, the Chestnut King, and Dimentio. The only enemies who he talks to rather than fights or flees from aside from Bowser are Goombas, who he feels he can protect, and a Blooper, Bob-Omb, Buzzy Beetle, and a few others who are his allies, but most of them have grievances against him. Long story short Mario is indeed the more apt bro to interact more neutrally with the Boos.

Did you mean "Its Boo-eauty" as possession or "it's Boo-eauty" as in "it is Boo-eauty"?

Boos care not for the rules of grammar as mortals do. They speak their tongue as they wish, and those who know the waltz can always understand.
