The song is a version of our unofficial national anthem Waltzing Matilda, the lyrics for which were penned by Banjo Paterson on a track east of Winton, in Outback Queensland.
It is sung in the Top End's Kriol, a combination of languages said to have grown organically from the meeting of Aboriginal, European and Chinese people around Darwin.

This Baltimore native got a History Class today Love your traditional Style ! The story has nothing to do about Waltzing as a dance ! I did my bit being Homeless and fighting authority while trying to survive ! Story means alot !

My new favourite song, I wish I knew this version of Waltzing Matilda, it gets your bloody toes tapping. I only heard it for the first time last week on the car radio, came straight home and found it on RU-vid. Haven't stopped playing it!!! I am 72 years old and I love it.

Advised to listen if my spirits were bloody low; not because of indigenous past but just that the song was presented straight from the heart of a beautiful lady and if that's not enough to get you out of any depression you may find yourself in, then I'm buggered if you can be saved. The song would get any Shearing shed into action with one play !!!

@@theredhood0772dooood... Its an actual language. It's called kriol and it's beautiful.. Singing words, regardless of language, often has a roll into the next word, and bcos you don't know this language, it seems you've heard it as "jibberish" - try using grown language next time you're curious about something... Like, "I don't understand what they're saying, is this a native language?".... Honey, not vinegar, dear.

My beautiful Nan passed a few days back, my grandad used sing this song and all of a sudden I found this, I wish my nan could have bopped her feet along to this she would have liked it. It's truly a special find from a great Australian woman, thanks for lifting my spirits a little xxx

My brother in law who lives in Hobart, sent me this version. It has got to be the best version of this song. Living in the USA, I don't understand the words except for a few that pop up. Just wonderful. Thank you.

I just woke up, stumbled across this and honestly put one of the first true smiles ive had on my face for a long time! Ive travelled this great land alot and you have to do that to feel truly connected to Australia and after doing so came back with a whole new respect and view for the aboriginal people! Thanks! :)

I get such a kick out of this. Ali Mills is wonderful. I am teaching this having got hold of the words from an Aussie. It is easier to learn than I feared it would be and we sing it a bit slower. We'll get faster as we get more comfortable. Thanks Ali and all.From Oakland CA 2022

I love this. I heard it on RU-vid and I started to research it. Some commentor had posted the words and I actually knew the straight english version. So, now I teach the Kriol version.

Ali Mills, You're a beauty, I love it. Waltzing Matilda should be our National Anthem and it nearly was, but for a few old Aussies that wanted to stay with God Save The King or Queen. One day we will have another vote and Banjo's song will win over all. Lindsay
