Hey Jstern, you might not remember me but you helped me with abyss once before during a live stream. I remember you prefering to use my Tighnari lvl 80 than my Wanderer and Faruzan at 90 because she wasn't C6. It made very clear to me that I wouldn't 36 stars with that level of investment, and it was only during Raiden's rerun where I pulled for her that I could get the 36 stars. Despite that, I didn't stop playing Wanderer, and even got said 36 stars using my Faruzan C2. Then the next banner was Xianyun's and I decided to go for her C6, and even without any change in artifacts he could outdps my Raiden is some chambers, especially the aoe ones. Maybe it wasn't a smart choice of my part, but I wanted to prove a point that he's not *literally* unplayable without her C6 and to also feel the difference between her performance with constellations. Either way it is a good advice to let him shine in overworld if people don't like both characters in abyss, or don't have her C6, and I'm very thankful for your help that day.
As someone who was stuck with C5 faruzan until wanderer's rerun I agree, hes not completely unplayable without c6 faruzan but he definitely needs MORE investment to play him comfortably either clearing waves faster or just general damage check in abyss. He holds almost a permanent spot on my exploration team because of his high mobility for exploration and just ease of use in the overworld and after his 1st rerun he was my first c6 limited character since 1.0 released.
I was stuck with C5 Faruzan at the end of his original banner and I did manage 36 star with him (and R5 Widsith) till I got C6 Faru but god, the difference between C5 and C6 Faruzan makes playing him feel significantly better
considering how good he is with c6 faru, he can still clear content without her, its just very noticeably slower and and needs a lot more minimum investment, since a low investment wanderer with c6 faru can already clear
It's not that Wanderer is unplayable without Faruzan C6, it's Faruzan that's unplayable without her own C6. She is not literally unplayable but you would need over 300% er on her for her to burst every rotation. Without C6 she buffs less than Bennett or Yunjin, at that point she is really replaceable, so other units like Bennett, Furina, Xingqiu or Yelan would be a lot better than Faruzan without C6. I bet you can clear a lot faster with the units I mentioned if they are at a decent investment level.
really good guide honestly, the only thing I would like to point out is that Flowing Purity isn’t so unconditional when it comes to Bennett, who is obviously his #1 healer and just generally the 2nd highest priority teammate after Faruzan. You need to take some damage to get yourself below 70% HP before Bennett can actually heal you and clear the BoL. Edit: also Layla is a worthy flex option that I believe is the most offensive option that also provides IR. Just have to learn/be able to execute the setups necessary to get cryo A1. I know Noir has a video about it.
Wanderer's super fun to play for me. The Thoma team is my go to pick. It's comfy, the rotation is butter smooth, it's so enjoyable! Kinda wish C1 increased movement speed too. I was tempted to pull it because I use him so much but at the end of the day I'd rather keep my primo for Clorinde. Can't wait to get Jean C4 otherwise. And glad to find out that Venti is somewhat relevant... Hopefully Natlan will balance things out for some chara.
The people that are spreading wanderer's bad are Xiaomains and associates, it was a battle between two mains until Xianyun release, that basically made them spit on wanderer being obsolete.
If only DPC didn't have that stupid Charged Attack requirement, it would be the perfect set. Even with 150+ ping, I feel Echoes is a far more comfortable set to play around with my C6R2 Wanderer. He already deals so much damage and so many instances of NA that even if I'm always only getting the 30% odds of activating Valley Rite, it's frequent enough to be noticeable and I don't have to waste time with CAs. Saving primogems for an entire year was totally worth it

ok it's funny you mentioned virginia for ping cus im here in western MD on wifi and always have like 27-31 ping. too bad i have 0 echoes pieces lol. good stuff jstern im glad you mentioned how important venti is, dont need a shield when all the enemies are in a blackhole your thoma hitting for 10k is hilarious. the previous abyss blessing was broken a content creator who likes wanderer!!
By the time i got faruzan c6 wanderer was c2. Then i lucked out on his bis weapon in the last rerun. His na spam with 42% aspd is really satisfying (bis, c1, pavillion set, yunjin c6) and is so easy to play~
With flowing purity, do i need furina for it to work? I don’t find success with it using bennet since i need to go beloy 70% to get healed. It’s a bit clunky. Can someone help

Consider playing Xingqiu instead of Layla for interrupt resist. It may not be as good as an actual shield for IR but at least it does not break. Also has dmg taken reduction which should be fine when you have Bennett on your team. Also decent single target damage increase
if you're struggling with layla is she just not built... or you use her super early in the rotation so her shield expires early? If you really really really do have problems then sure but if you don't have nolilde set already, don't farm for it, it's a waste of time. Just play better you know
I heard there is no point stacking shred,so is there really a point running Faruzan with c4 jean? Jean already gives healing for furina and 40 anemo shred, isn’t it better to put another buffer like bennet? Also isn’t zongli elemental shred not enough for most situations, he has 20 I believe and most enemies have 20 elemental res? (Except magu kenki from this abyss)
Res shred below 0 has half the efficacy but not useless. So you can still use jean and faruzan together and get the buffs. Faruzan is better than c4 jean so you can use 2 together and put bennett/furina last slot
No c2 jean is fine with wanderer gives atk and movement speed energy and furina fanfare Jean removes cryo and other elements applied to you wake Bennet Jean eats up shield She's too useful even tho she doesn't buff much and I'm not a Jean main lol just saying
The Wanderer biggest problems for me as C1R1 afficionado are: - his power as character is incredibly dependent on only one character. Its a bit imbalanced imo - when he flies enemy frequently hit you with attacks that at glance you shouldnt - he is incredibly squishy but if you play him with shields its no fun or different than eny other NA spamer. - he can easyly be chainshoted or oneshoted - his C2 is awful cos it removes the most fun Scara playstyle switch nuking, being bakloaded dmg is also meaning that you will overkill regularly - his CA are better in 70% of sceanarios cos they happen to hit 2 enemies while his normals woldnt. - his electro infusion is far worse - if you play sheildless you may need to dodge twice in a roll and since free dodges dont stack your dps goes to trash XDD
I was thinking of getting his C1 on this banner but everything you said is true. He's very squishy, his Normal attacks should def have higher scaling to compensate especially comparing him to the newer Fontaine DPS's. Sucks because I love using him but if I want to use an Anemo DPS it makes more sense for me to use my Xiao team with C2 Xianyun/C2 Furina/C6 Bennett (or Faruzan).
Imagine if we got the Fontaine treatment and got +3 NA talent on C3 or even C5. I would As a both Xiao and Wanderer main I agree on them being equal now actually. Even with FFXX now. Yes, technically FFXX can sheet higher, although I have a feeling often people compare two very different teams when they look at the two, FFXX is a minimum of a 4 cost team if we count Xiao with a 5 star weapon. But Wanderer has shorter rotation set ups, doesn't ungroup enemies and his reach allows him to not have to chase them across the chamber, which gives him a much better ease of use, and often the same or better clear times than Xiao. They honestly have slightly better use cases but overall perform pretty equally in my eyes
FFXX just tends to be a lot praised for being free of circle impact and also horizontal investment friendly since FFXX is an equivalent of C2 Wanderer if you went by gold cost but a lot people would rather pick up new 5*'s to elevate their accounts over constellations of existing 5*'s. In terms of speedrunning, FFXX does have noticeable disadvantages such as longer setup times and uneven damage in AoE where the disparity is even larger if Xianyun's C2 so Xiao and Wanderer just end up being about similar in speedrunning.
Idk, one problem about wanderer is needing a shielder, but while playing xiao it almost feels like you're invincible since you can't be interrupted mid plunge
@@hashir1379 nobody really complains about arle, so there is that, him being in the air often allows him to be out of range, he has free dodges. and can move independently of attacking, and he has rang ,which gives you better view of the enemy/ moves you out of range of enemy attacks
Technically he has only one fun and playable team - Faruzan, Benny and Dong. Good luck playing him without Dong - you'll get annoyed real fast when you're going to inevitably get hit mid flight and be send to Detroit
