...An amazingly ultra-talented group, where their music never gets old. ..And lets face it folks, Siedah Garrett, always brings the 'energy' regardless of who she's performing background vocals for.
@@nick74ish She did what she was paid to do, perform at 100%. I've seen her perform this song with them many times and her energy is always the same. If they dig what she brings to the song/performance then, that's good enough for me.
@@foldsofblubber Yeah, Johnny Carson was HUGE back then. If you got on his show, millions of people saw you. You didn't get on the show unless you were incredibly talented, and gues what, Wang Chung was, and still is.
After watching this video over, and over, and over, I really believe this is a live performance with exquisite sound mixing. If I am right, bravo to Wang Chung for such a brilliant, unique performance. If I am wrong, thanks for the upload, and thank you Wang Chung for a great song!
I think you are right. I am a professional drummer and watching a mimed drum track immediately reveals itself. The drummer counts in the song with stick claps, is wearing headphones to hear the "click track" of the keyboard sequencer and vocal.... AND the song does not fade out..ends with a choked cymbal crash...Yes, THIS IS LIVE To AIR performance, no doubt about it...and a very very good one. Professional.

The female back up singer is SIEDAH GARRET. She is also one of the writers of Michael Jackson's MAN IN THE MIRROR. She comes out in his performance on Emmy awards as one of his backup singers. She is the one on the extreme left of the Michael Jackson performance.

This message is for the millennials that know everything! This is music talent with no auto tune bullshit. In fact this is live without lip sink to pre recorded " Live Concert". Not bad at all, almost sounded like the studio recording! Sadly talent is a thing of the past in a cookie cutter recruitment studio for people that don't know better. For those that do realize this is happening please thank your parents for me.
Dear boomer:if you can't tell that the track the band is singing on top of is pre-recorded I suggest you have the hair in your ears waxed and your prescription lenses strengthened. Pay close attention and it's obvious to any and all. They really aren't trying hard to hide it. The reason you think there is no talent now is because you haven't bothered looking. P.S when you boomers need your diapers changed you should be nice to the millennials or they may just leave you out in the cold.
@@fintanoclery2698 Young people are talented as they ever were. It’s just that talented people aren’t interested in making music. They make apps and technology, instead. The stats don’t lie: over 70% of the most streamed music in 2022 was music older than ten years old, mostly from the 70’s - 90’s, but also the 60’s and 2000’s (this was in an Atlantic Magazine article if you want to look it up. Or the New Yorker. One of the two. Probably other articles online as well, but that’s where I read it). The most steamed song of the year was 40 years old (Kate Bush “Running Up That Hill”). And if not for Taylor Swift and Beyoncé putting out albums later in the year, new music streams and sales were on pace for record lows. And the trend is still pointing downward. New music consists of a) getting REAL high, b) get on a paint by numbers trap-pop track made in 5 minutes on a laptop, c) get even more high, d) use the melodic range of a 4 year old humming, and sing song some vapid cutesy rap for tik tok. Don’t get me wrong, there are still people putting out good music. It’s just that they have all been around for at least 15 or 20 years already. New music today follows the strict formula I laid out above, or even worse, are influenced by, and trying to replicate, the above formula in their own way … to make cutesy, kiddie tik tok videos. Now make way for AI; it will be a vast improvement on what we have now, and will be infinitely more sophisticated, sadly.
Man oh man, listen to Jack pin that high note in the bridge live, full voice! Can you imagine the potential for making an ass of yourself in this part of the song? Great big wobbly dangly balls of steel, and talent to give away :)
O man the way he grabs those notes - he is very certain of his ability right there. It's such a pleasure to see a singer who can just RIP. That goes for the female singer next to him too.

One of my all time favorite songs back in 1987. When the party seemed to get boring we played this song to get 'em dancing. Loved hearing the talented Siedah Garrett singing backup. I had a crush on her.
This song sums up the 80s , no internet no Qanon no school shooting but we still had bad politicians, I had a nightclub w/ live music & dancing & everybody had fun tonight . Today I Hope our children can have fun too ! Miss the 80s ✌❤

This is a ridiculously good live performance, especially on The Tonight Show where the live mix was often sketchy and showed any holes in the performers who often had trouble gelling with the house band. Heck yessssss.
Fabulous song ,great rythum and beat,wonderful band. The snger has an amazing voice he even resembels red skelton the very famous actor and comedian. Love this song have to dance to it every time I hear it. Really is a great hit ,god bless. Nanette
I watch this several times a year, partly because I love this song, partly because this is a great live performance, and partly to remind me that we had exceptional music and bands in my younger years... l unlike today where there are very few bands that can sound good live WITHOUT having to use computers and having their voices auto-corrected because of lack of vocal talent.
Wow!! It would have been fantastic to hear this group in its prime, as we have here! Jack totally nails that bridge, and the back-up singer lifts it up!
I'd only ever heard them sing "Dance Hall Days" on the radio (which was underwhelming to me, truthfully) before seeing this performance on TV. When I heard Jack sing "On the edge of oblivion..." I was blown away! I went straight out and bought the album, and it's one of my favorites still to this day.
