@flip inheck That's not how any of that works. Having more power pulses per revolution doesn't magically make your cobustion chambers larger. The 26b isn't a 7.8L engine.

@flip inheck Norton can't enter their rotary power motorcycle anymore because they don't make them and haven't since the 1990s. Mazda was classed as a 1300 cc engine. All rotary engines were measured the same way so all must have been cheating

@flip inheck yes rotary has 3 sides per rotor, but the firing graft process every crank are slower than 4 strokes. Rotary done 2 firing from 720degree rotation of crankshaft.

They were usually geared (epicyclic) so that there was one ignition event (per rotor) per rotation of the eccentric shaft. I.e. not dissimilar to a two-stroke. So for that reason it's common to double the swept volume and quote that as the effective displacement when compared against ordinary piston engines - again, like a two-stroke. It also breathes through ports that are covered and uncovered by what is effectively the piston in a rotary - sensing a theme? So, despite actually operating on a four-stroke cycle, they have the same scavenging and noise issues as two strokes - hence the brap.

@flip inheck So the Four stroke manufacturers played up to get the rules changed to ban rotary engines. The same way manufacturers got Slippery Sam banned as the T150 was no longer in production.

The rotary engine works in a 4 stroke system, but it makes an exhaust stroke every intake, making a 2 stroke like sound, pretty amazing imo

You're thinking in terms of 1 dimension (a straight line, which is how a piston operates), whereas a rotary is 2 dimensions (which would be a circle), due to its combustion cycle. Not to be confused with a 'Radial Engine' that's typically found in prop planes.

I can say "Wankel" in 2 shakes of a lamb's tail. I can say "two stroke" in 3 shakes of a lamb's tail.... "Wankel" is 1/3rd quicker

Ironically,Norton was owned by some rather dodgy 'businessmen' during the rotary era. Move forward a number of years and history is currently repeating itself with another shady 'businessman' at the helm. That Norton brand name isn't having much luck.

@@howardosborne8647 shame really as I love the look of norton past and garner era. We saw them a number of years ago at goodwood and said I love the look but way overpriced.
