12:46 i probally would of brought up nightmare luffy at this point as well cause its litrally the moments that signifies this with luffy fighting against a pure happy go lucky version of himself in oars while he is the most hyper serious version of himself in the series (also a nightmare huh that the opposite of a dream)
I find it interesting too that Nightmare Luffys power and demeanor come from literally absorbing the ambitions and dreams of strangers. Their power helps push him forward, in the same way that his power ultimately frees them.
I actually really liked act 1 and 2! Act 3 began for me to crumble after the initial rooftop ended. I divide it personally into further 3 acts: Oden’s flashback, Raid, and Climax
The issue with wano is that none of the characters saved the two girls Yamato are likeable. So who care about the country where everyone is unlikable. Even momonosuke is the worst princess archetypes. Vivis flaw was her refusing to see her refusing to allows others to risk their lives Nami refused to trust Mermaid was a crybaby Rebecca decided to do thing herself Sanji needed to value himself Momonosuke was still the same arrogant coward at the start and at the end Yamato pretty much made him do everything in the fight against kaido because he was pointless
A theme I really enjoyed, was loyality - the weird alliances that formed with different kinds of characters allying or betraying one side for various reasons was very interesting. Didn't read deeply enough for an amazing analysis like this video but some day I'll do the work!
The thought that oda put into wano shines even more with your analysis. Wano to some might feel “rushed” but when you take into account the care he put into the parallels, character moments, and insights I think it’s worth it. This video highlighted things I noticed in wano and showed me things I missed after reading it great video!!
Yes! I'm excited to hear your thoughts and analysis on Wano. Personally, though, I have to admit that Wano was the arc that made me feel exhausted with One Piece for the first time, leading me to take a long break. Yet it made me appreciate all the other arcs much more.
This was fantastic I think the Kurozumi/Kozuki subplot deserved some mention in relevance to Wano's overarching narrative but I guess the resolution period after the climax wasn't your focus.
Wano is a phenomenal arc but it definitely could've benefitting from oda original plan to have a reduced number of scabbards with 4 instead of 9 so he can have more air and room to breathe.
4 scabbards would be so.....lackluster. doesn't feel like a great big family of unorthodox samurai following the unorthodox daimyo it's funny because no other supporting character that was native to a country, was given as much characterization and shine as the wano citizens imo
After seeing that you uploaded this analysis, I have rewatched all your One Piece videos. They are really good, so I am very happy seeing you back. Now I have to watch the One Piece Nen Show Podcasts too ;)
It pales in comparison with the drama that transpired during the Whole Cake Island arc. And WCI arc isn't even the most dramatic arc in One Piece. The number of fake out deaths (Kinemon having the most, if not the most ridiculous fake out death in One Piece history) is very appalling. And what's funny is because the actual deaths doesn't even feel anything. All the Strawhat fights are inferior compared to their best fights yet. There's a ridiculously large amount of plot holes, even from a One Piece standard. The walking turd that is Yamato (arguably one of the worst characterization in One Piece, a series know for having great supporting characters). Luffy's fruit being revealed to be a chosen one fruit, which diminishes any notion of competition for the status of Pirate King. Forced appearance of Shanks in Wano (just for the film Red marketing; not necessarily bad if not for the fact that his characterization during that appearance is very weak). The worst introduction and characterization of an Admiral. Having the most confusing and conflicting thematic conclusion in any One Piece arc. One of the weakest finishing moves in terms of writing. Overall, relatively the weakest writing in any One Piece arc. And that's still just half of its many problems. It established so much that it failed to delivered most of what it promised. Already celebrating their victory even before the fight? Also, making Luffy embarrass both Yonkou during their supposed first real fight? (Have you seen their scared and shocked faces when Luffy casually walked between them? What a way to increase the stake and tension of the arc (not).
@@Kanemakii Here we go again with the "its just an opinion" crowd. It is an opinion. The same as the one above. What's the difference? The fact that a lot in the comment shares my sentiment means that there's value in discussing what I just listed.
By pointing out that people "agree", you already killed any point you wanted to make. Not to mention the fact that your post is super generic and vague and doesn't particularly elaborate on your own thinking beyond just empty words. Your post literally sounds like one of those battle-junkies who can't get over the fact that this is a story and not a rocket-science to match whatever image of the villain you had in mind. I also kind of like how it tries to sum up such a huge arc with such ambition and build up with quick reactionary bullshit. Maybe write down something with actual substance and you might have a discussion. @@justaway6901
Wonderful video, thank you for making it :D Are you familiar with the kishotenkestu story structure? Four acts - 1 "Ki or Kiku," 2- "Sho," 3 - "Ten or Yama," 4 - "Ketsu." I believe Wano was actually following it all along, with the arc after Wano acting as the "ketsu."
It’s pretty obvious at this point Yamato isn’t meant to be perceived literally as a man. They’re contrasted nicely with Kiku who is the actual trans character in the arc.
The greatest one piece anlyser alive even though i don't see a lot of things the same way you do it's a Joy taking a trip withing your beautifull mind my friend ... may we live to witness the end of this Amazing Tale
wano had great plot points but too bloated and oda couldnt tie all of them. he was too ambitious w the arc. early wano was great tho. fell apart in the end but still a good arc regardless.
This is an excellent analysis as usual from you, but I feel as if you just fundamentally can’t bring yourself to criticize One Piece. It’s a blatantly pretty messy and indulgent arc with numerous intrinsic issues, but you’ve seemed to find a way to always conjure up a positive spin on every element of what Oda’s writing. Years ago I supported you against BestGuyEver’s reductive criticisms of Whole Cake Island, but I think you’ve found a way to convey almost what’s functionally the opposite form of praise. Like it’s just as forced and simplistic in its own way.
Oda to his editor: I’ve got it I’ll make a joke so funny that it will be able to make anyone laugh Editor: oh how does it start? Oda : by making you cry
Are you actually serious or just clinically insane? How on earth can anyone even remotely think this arc is bad? Its easily a top 3 arc or maybe even higher!
@@furorteutonicus9045it was way too chaotic and dense for it to be in my top 5. Oda is one of the best storytellers but this was too much even for a workaholic of his caliber. The highs were very high but the low points pretty low. I would argue that Egghead as of rn is already better than the wano arc. Wouldn't agree with op tho. The worst long running arc is either dress Rosa or whole cake island.

@@furorteutonicus9045 What a world we live in. People are easily fooled by flashy stuffs. Even to the point of calling someone clinically insane? I think its the other way around brother
I enjoyed the video until you got to the part about fate. I didn't enjoy it because, you didn't seem well read in the philosophical concept in which you are dealing with. When discussing the reactions of people from different cultures of fate in media, you shouldn't only pull up media which feature it, but the philosophical structures which in form the societies which we exist in now. Determinism vs Free Will, and, if you wanna talk about the bourgeois christian conceptions and reactions to it, you would need to talk about the historical arguments Christian theologians have had about fate and determinism, and, its roots in Plato. You would then need to talk about eastern conceptions of fate: Shintoism and Daoism specifically. And, you would need to finally talk about the modern scientific and philosophical debates around fate. Of Nature vs Nurture,. of humans born of our material conditions, unaccountable for our actions, as people who are rational actors, or not, and, the nature of the Gheist. The will of history, and the realization of man. I just felt that part of the video was very shallow, but, then again, asking for a wide ranging discussion of philosophy in a One Piece video is quite the tall order. Thank you for making what you made, its good as it is!
For me one of the worst arcs I have ever watched in entertainment media even in fiction as whole Repetitive, sluggish, predictable, poorly written dialogues, absence of danger thanks to the comedy elements, the comedy is childish I couldn’t even force myself to continue watching I don’t care what happens in it anymore I better watch something that respects my time and offer some value and entertainment for me I used to adore one piece but as I grow older and consume more adult anime it became apparent to me the many flaws this story has If you want something that has a really mature tone you better watch anime like Perfect Blue, Only Yesterday, Berserk (1997), Ghost in the shell (1995) Even Evangelion with its mistakes have a much darker tone then one piece
I'm into dark stuff as well. I must also admit that One Piece has gotten less interesting over the years. I still love it for the characters and humor but I couldn't care less about the main plot and world building that takes center stage in the manga. I prefer the movies and filler because they're more character focused.
We get it bro you just turned 14. You aren’t more adult or more deep or more intelligent just cause you like stories with “adult” themes. It’s actually far more mature to not force your expectations onto everything regardless of what that media is actually trying to do.
