I was surprised to find that even cheap led lights have a huge effect on growth . I just check the label regarding lumen and kelvin, and even very cheap light bulbs work great (as long as you dont want to grow food, i guess :-)
@LeafyLovin
@LeafyLovin 23 дня назад
yes so true right? If you look for the kelvin and Lumen that match as closely to daylight then you don't necessarily need to spend huge dollars for the right light! Sounds youre one step ahead of many 😉💚

@@LeafyLovin -hey! How much kelvin and lumen do you recommend?
@LeafyLovin

So I usually look for Kelvin first, as this relates to the colour being more white like the natural light outside, or more yellow like indoor lights. So I usually love a white light and will therefore look for around 5,500K (anywhere from 5000-6000 is plenty really). Then from there I'll just try and choose the highest Lumen i can find! (which relates to the strength of the light). I do avoid anything under 1000 lumen, and try to aim for 1500 - 2000 lumen or above. The sun, on an overcast day, puts out about 1,000 lumens per square foot. On a bright day, without clouds, direct sunlight delivers 3,000-5,000 lumens per square foot. I can always move the plant further away from the light if need be, but you cant turn up the light brighter if it's too low. Hope that helps! :)

Nice video! I noticed you use silica from GT or at least had the bottle. Since you asked for recommendations, mine is to use another brand if you are using silica. Not that GT is bad but their silica is potassium and not monosilic acid which is fast acting unlike GT where is takes months to break down to mono. For variegated or stressed plants it’s a game changer. I use Gro-Silic from Grotek which is monosilic. It’s a bit more expensive but you only put a small amount it will last a long time.

Amazing thank you! I love trying new things and if it benefits my plants, bonus! I'll definitely give it a go. ☺💪

Would a video for heat mats and grow lights. My home stays at 65 degrees always. And any tips for a pink princess. I just got one on clearance and did the pest soak and granules. What other things can i do. She had huge leaves. One just unfurled and its about 2 inches compared to 6. Ive had her dor about a month.

Ooo great video ideas thank you! Ive definitely got one about grow lights coming - just need to finalise points so is easy to understand as it can seem very complicated with all the detail! ☺ Ooh Pink Princess can be a tough one as she doesn't like giving a lot of pink I find! Not the most stable plant overall really. I give mine very good bright indirect light when indoors, and all of my princesses are on a moss pole. I actually keep one outdoors in the shade and she seems to do the best! I would say its re-acclimatising to your home conditions as usually they will give smaller leaves if they have been moved to a different spot with different light/humidity conditions, and coming from a greenhouse to store to you, is a stress factor. Unfortunately! Give her a good moss pole, and very good indirect light position in your home, and feed as usual and she should grow big again. ☺

Really high quality video! I’m curious about the heat mats. Yes the top layer of soil in nature is warmed by the sun (if the sunlight reaches it), but as you go deeper into the soil, at about a meter in, it is much colder. The size of the Earth is so large that the heat transferred from the core to the crust is insignificant. I’d love to see the research on this!
@LeafyLovin
@LeafyLovin Месяц назад
aww thank you! So yes the heat matt is not only about raising the temp slightly, but also maintaining a more consistent stable and controlled environment (like the soil) ☺️ which helps your plant. Plus from what I have read and understand the warmer temps do encourage better root formation which then in turn helps with better growth. of course you don't want to cook the plants either so everything is a learning curve! But the main reason I added it in is because I have tried it on a couple of plants of mine where growth had stagnated (Florida beauty, aglaonema for a few) and it helped me! But overall id just say this is one thing to try, and there are of course other factors to try too! heat mat's are only fairly small so will help small to med plants, which has worked for me. ☺️

Another great video, love it! Also great to find an Aussie that doesn't use the common Australian swear words...thank you so much for this☺️as I and my friends don't swear, and it is so jarring when my favourite utubers drop the s or f word 😳as if it's nothing. You're now my favourite, along with an American that uses a duck's quack to edit any slip ups😆. Keep up the great content, looking forward to spring again! Planning my repotting for when nights get above 15° again and can go back outside.

Wow Aussie swearing is a thing hey? 🧐 yeah cant really say itfeels right for me either, so youre right you won't get those words in my videos.. although I may say something like 'oh Darn' here and there 😆 And the duck guy sounds fantastic!! pls share!! yes bring on SPRING!! so excited for more new growth 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

I use Tezula fertilizer for tap water and I got my first bloom on my Obovata and I can't believe it.I have had that plant two or three years. I also use Great White, King Crab, Clonex solution for cuttings and Myco Chum to feed the King Crab bacteria. I just purchased TPS billions but not sure how that works yet. Another fertilizer I use is called Big Green leaves, and I just purchase Fiddle Leaf treats from the same company, but not sure I will purchase that again since I got large leaves with the big green leaves over a year ago. I think I finally got the care down. Last thing I purchased that I got for a steal on Amazon is tap water conditioner for aquariums. I use that in my tap water before watering my plants. Not sure about that yet since I just started using it.

Oh thank you for sharing all of these! I haven't heard of many actually! I definitely love Clonex, but the rest I will look into here in Australia if they're available. I also use tap water conditioner for my calatheas and stromanthes, as it helps minimise the brown tips/ edges! Either that or filtered water / rain water if available. Thanks for sharing! Great Stuff! 🤩

@@LeafyLovin You are welcome. I listened to a few wonderful RU-vidrs. The Tezula fertilizer for tap water is really good for Hoyas. First time ever seeing my Obovata bloom after having it for two or three years. It is said to be good for Orchids, but I don't have any and it seems my Anthuriums love this stuff. This plant game is expensive but so much fun.

aww thank you. I must admit I also speed up most of the YT videos I watch to x2! 😉 But! .. I also do know I do speak fast so all good with the feedback 😊. Especially if English is your second language it can be hard to follow a fast conversation! Luckily I love the fact that YT offers several speeds from super slow to fast. Something for everyone! 🥰💪

@@ShumilaAhmad Good for you, but sadly, no we can't slow it down to make it listenable. :( Whilst there are people like you (who make up only ~17% of viewers) who "prefer" it faster - these people are also totally capable of listening to it at Normal speed. However, the other 83% of viewers who cannot keep up, have no alternative but to just give up (and ultimately not subscribe). Because unfortunately, RU-vid's next speed down is 75% which makes her sound drunk. (RU-vid needs to fix this to 85-90% but won't)

You could fix this in post. It's easy. Unless of course you are only making videos for the 17% out there who can understand you.
