This War in Middle Earth series was so good that I have decided to go back through and re-watch the entire thing for a second time now that the series has concluded. Absolutely fantastic content, looking forward to what's going to come next.

I really like how you do not just summarize the lore, but also give some analysis of Tolkien’s world and characters. There are thousands of lore videos on RU-vid, but hearing your take on character decisions and battle plans is far more interesting.

Imagine how it would be better for Morgoth to just escape from Valinor without killing High Elf king and stealing the Silmarils. No pursuit, destruction of the elven kingdoms and free reign in Middle-Earth. But no, he HAD TO have the trinkets.

True. Wonder how different elven lore would be without the forging on the silmarils at all. Probably would've been less kinslaying at least lmao

@@nairb2693 Yes, but the Elves Beleriand would've been wiped out or forced into slavery without the vengeance of the Noldor driving them back to Beleriand

Very nice, though I would expect Morgoth's armies to be far larger; Sauron was able to muster greater forces of orcs than described here at the end of the third age without having 3000 years and the second greatest fortress ever built to prepare.
@majorianus8055
@majorianus8055 3 года назад
i agree, and I think Doriath would probably have a larger force. Remember, the times of the first age is the heights of Elven power and population and Doriath is the largest Elven kingdom ever. It follows that King Thingol ought to have a larger army than Gil Galad who probably have 30-40k army during the war of the Elves and Sauron.

I think in this point in history orcs are fairly new and depend heavily on morgoth efforts to exist and multiply. By the time of Sauron, orcs are an established people with their own dwellings that exist and multiply on their own. What Sauron does is putting them together and coordinate them

Melkor was a fool he should have challenged the Valor to a dance off for the fate of Arda, you might think that is silly but he already had a sing off with them during the making of the music of the world.

@@Historyfan476AD You dont need gasoline, just a stong enough booze. I mean, there are ethanol-fueled engines. They would not work very well in cold areas, but since Angband is basically a hell surounded by volcanos, Im sure that this would not be a problem. So yes, Morgoth was a noob. Instead of wasting time on some slow, overweight dragons, he should have started producing ethanol to fuel airplanes and tanks! Lets see how those pesky elves can deal with that!

That's better. Someone who delivers Tolkein's convoluted history in a matter of fact, light hearted way, and doesn't go 'all preachy' at the end. The map-work is more understandable, and giving some estimate of the size of the forces involved (albeit educated guesswork in some cases) makes our interpretation a lot easier.

I'll never forget my absolute dissapointment of how Feanor died.. everything leading up to that moment lead me to believe he could and Should have 1V7 the Balrogs... I was a child when I started the Silmarillion and an adult by the time Feanor died... Damn Tolkien and his realistic depictions of his own made up world!!!

I'm asuming as punishement that Feaner has to wait for a long time in the halls of Mandos for a new body, was he still waiting even untill LOTR, what do you think? And is it written anywhere about his fate?.
@DarthGandalfYT
@DarthGandalfYT 4 года назад
Some of Tolkien's earlier writings have Feanor down as only returning at the Dagor Dagorath, so basically until the end of the world. How canon it is can probably be argued but it can be assumed that he'll be in the Halls of Mandos for a very long time.

thoughts: 1- battle under the stars: can you even visualize all these events with no other source of light? 2- why would the elves in "paradise" ever need to learn fighting skills? they didnt and yet reaching Middle earth they still were superior to Melkor´s army 3- looks like Melkor, like Sauron, just hoped that the ainur didnt interfere. and they would likely be justified in doing so since their lack of action is the source of most problems and stories in the legendarium. Should Melkor ever guess that the ainur would let the noldor leave aman?
@DarthGandalfYT
@DarthGandalfYT 2 года назад
1 - The stars are a lot brighter in Arda. 2 - Ironically, it was Morgoth's influence that led to the Noldor forging arms and armour, and their need to practice for warfare. 3. I don't think Morgoth thought the Valar would forcibly stop the Noldor from pursuing him, but I think he was still surprised at their arrival.

They still had weapons and presumably trained in their use in Valinor. Faenor pulled one on his brother after all. But it wasn't really about weapons, ALL of the Noldor were essentially supersoldiers imbued with the light of the two trees. Think of how overpowered characters like Glorfindel and Galadriel are even in LOTR. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Noldor that came from Valinor were freshly powered up by the same aura of the gods as them.
