I bet half of the soldiers during that war were like "why are we fighting again?" lol Imagine that Russian guy defending Mainz and trying to remember what all the fucking fuss was about. Haha This war is so bonkers it deserves a TV series.

Russians, Polish, Germans, French, Spanish, Italians. This just needed the participation of England, Scandinavia and the Ottomans to be a world war at its time.

+Nikolaj11 The Seven Years' War was fought between 1754 and 1763, the main conflict occurring in the seven-year period from 1756 to 1763. It involved most of the great powers of the time and affected Europe, North America, Central America, West Africa, India, and the Philippines.

Correct; while regions such as the Americas and India were indeed involved in the conflict, they were more or less just caught in the middle of the British and French rather than involved as full-fledged participants themselves

Minor error around 0:32. Louis XV of France was Stanislaus's son-in-law, not his father-in-law.

An easy way you could improve your videos is by using text. Your mic is not that good and sometimes I hear a *pop* when you pronounce names. That on top of the fact that there are lots of names of people I've never heard about makes it hard to keep track who is doing what. Just putting the names of the characters at the very least when they show up would be so helpful.

I conclude that you are from Western Europe. Do you think that Poland is a minor country? 1500 years, we are defending the West against bums Mongols, Turks and Muscovites. We never never received the award. Now, Poland and Lithuania are separated. We lost the achievements of 400 years of common life ,, as the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. "Imagine that one day our kings laugh at shit poverty and the English monarchs. We have achieved a lot of things. We stood on the podium of the largest countries in Europe. He reigned in our prosperity and wealth. Karzdy our king was a good and righteous. Zosaliśmy deprived of independence and the monarchy and the Polish-Lithuanian. Zasilaliśmy years as slaves Russians. West looks at us with contempt. You did not have many wild enemies because all the blows fall on us. we were a republic monarchical before England fell on this idea. Our king, however, had enormous power. the French overgrowing dirt. It was not until Henry III when he was king of the Polish and great networks of Lithuania brought to France from Polish toilets and bathtubs. Habsburgs zdobwali everything but they failed to ever defeat Jagiellons and queen Bona. Turkey feared only Polish and Lithuanian. Russia hated us courage. Sweden admired. Denmark and the Netherlands handlowły with us. England envied. We had the entire eastern europe. Polish peoples, Lithuania, Ukraine, muslims, Protestants, Jews, Catholics were equal. There was religious tolerance and manners. Say, is not that the Empire?

Britain helped Austria in many of the European Wars during this time period (War of Devolution, Nine Years' War, War of the Spanish Succession, War of the Austrian Succession, etc.). The reason Britain didn't help in this particular war was because 1. British King George II personally didn't think the war was worth it and 2. after working with the Dutch to force the emperor to shut down his Ostend trading company in 1731, the British were going through a period of rather patchy relations with the Austrians during this period. But don't let any of that override the fact that when the Habsburg monarchy went through its darkest hour in 1740 Britain was there to lend a hand :)

Plus the Napoleonic Wars when Austria wasn't obligated by treaty to help Napoleon. Then Viscount Castlereagh and Klemens von Metternich mostly were allied in running the Congress of Europe, although Castlereagh kind of got cold feet. Austria was asked to support Russia in the Crimean War against Britain but didn't send any troops. 70 years later came WWI.

Szymon Niewiarowski Poland-Lithuania was an empire. It was large in territory and it had an big army (in the Polish-Russian War of 1654-1657, Poland had 130 000 soldiers).
@wilsonelder5277
@wilsonelder5277 6 лет назад
...so that's how you define an empire, by the amount of territory a state owns and the size of an army? By your logic, Canada would be considered an imperial state LOL
@zubstep
@zubstep 3 года назад
It was an empire in the sense it had multiple peoples within it, as opposed to a singular nation-state. The singular but semi-federal political structure also lends itself to an imperial scale. I've also seen it described as a progeniture to modern federalism, citing the various acts of union with Lithuania, the parliamentary function locally and nationally (sejmniks and sejm), and the proposed but unrealized Ruthenian duchy in the ill-fated Treaty of Hadiach. I'd argue that it was nearly the first modern federalist empire, but when it failed to consummate Hadiach, it descended into a failed state. Plenty of room to argue many points around that; it's such an interesting topic.
@wilsonelder5277
@wilsonelder5277 Год назад
@@zubstep You have a logical point of view that I can get behind. I more just disliked the last comment at the time I made mine; I feel that the size of a state's territory and army are irrelevant to true definitions of the term "empire." There are plenty of instances throughout history of relatively-tiny empires, sometimes being confined to no more than a singular small city or island.

The title is misleading.. It should be Polish - Lithuanian Succession.. I am tired of people being misead into thinking that the country was a Polish state. Yes, the official language was polish and latin, but the country was an equal federation between Lithuania and Poland. please change the title.

+Rytis Liaučys I agree with you, allthough Polish had bigger power and influence. Even well-known Lithuanian writer, Adam Mickiewicz wrote his works in Polish. Greetings from Poland :)

+Fantastycznie majestatyczny jenot Thats because Polish was the official language. Ireland has English as an official language too, but it doesnt make Ireland England :).
@fantastyczniemajestatyczny89
@fantastyczniemajestatyczny89 8 лет назад
Wep, Irish lost part of their culture. And I think Mickiewicz would write in the languge he knew and wouldn't bother what's official. Lithuanians were also strongly polonized back in those times - they spoke either Polish or Lithuanianwith a lot of Polish words. in 19 century when many nations modified their langauges, Lithuanians also did and removed many Polish words. I of course agree - in theory it was Union between Poland and Lithuania, but in practice Poland had bigger position. Anyway, do Lithuanians think that the Commonwealth was good for Lithuania? I always wondered :)
@JabzyJoe
@JabzyJoe 8 лет назад
+Rytis Liaučys Renaming the video the 'Polish-Lithuanian Succession' wouldn't work because no one could succeed to the Polish-Lithuanian throne as it didn't exist. So I guess the proper title should be the Succession War of the Polish Kingdom and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. But then that would leave out the Duchies of Ruthenia, Smolensk, Kiev etc. And then it just becomes far too complicated. Plus, people at the time sometimes called it 'the most serene Republic of Poland' and the likes. And calling it just the Commonwealth wouldn't work because it could be confused with the English commonwealth or modern day British Commonwealth. I know 'the Republic of Both Nations' was created quite recently and does the job of naming the Commonwealth quite well, but that really doesn't work in English. So, in English anyway, this is what the event is called and if people watch the video and wish to do further research, giving it the correct title seems to be the best thing to do. Same goes for the Partitions of Poland video you commented on.

+Fantastycznie majestatyczny jenot The opinions differ. Some despise it because it ruined the Grand Duchy and was pretty much the end of Lithuanian self determination, while some like it for the stuff that we achieved together.
