The Battle of Falkirk (Blàr na h-Eaglaise Brice in Gaelic), on 22 July 1298, was one of the major battles in the First War of Scottish Independence. Led by King Edward I of England, the English army defeated the Scots, led by William Wallace. Shortly after the battle Wallace resigned as Guardian of Scotland.

Please note; I am aware that some of the units are from the wrong era, I used them for purely visual impact. Thanks for watching!

I've read from many different sources that shortly before the battle, the Welsh contingent had a drunken, violent episode with soldiers of the English army, and dozens of Welshmen were killed. It was also said that the Welsh threatened to desert the English and join the Scots. Of course, they did not, but I wonder if Falkirk would have turned out any differently had the Welsh made good on their threat. Any thoughts?

Well, I suppose you should be thankful that your comment/question was acknowledged, if not answered. My opinion? The English army was too large, and once the cavalry re-organized itself, the mutinous Welsh may have been run down, but also there were other English archers in Edward's army, including a contingent of Lancastrian bowmen, who actually did most of the damage to the Scots once they were deployed. But hey - I could be wrong. Maybe the Welsh could have helped, if they joined the Scots - but that would depend on how Wallace would have used them. After all, the English cavalry was only temporarily driven back, not beaten. In one account of the actual battle, the Welsh joined in at the last minute, before the Scots were completely routed.

You do know that at that time Scotland was an independent Country. So it was just a war like all the others Scotland and England fought over the years, before we became the United Kingdom.

The English projectile troops sure swooped in and salvaged the battle from initial attempts to break the Scottish spearman. The waiting game the English troops played before making their final moves where prudent.

The Scottish Schkltrons ? They seem like Alexanger's Macedonian Phalynx. Did Moray and Wallace not read the Battlefield Primer n pike formations lacking defense on missle troops?
@chrisanduncensoredjapan6627
Moray wasn’t at Falkirk.

From Anglo Lands, to Welsh lands, to Scots Lands, to Eire Lands, then half the world plus a tad more. English started small then ended absolutrly HUGE. 🤔😐

I seem to recall that Wales was in a state of civil war when the English picked one side to support against the other. And it was actually the Scottish throne, secured by King Robert the Bruce, that later inherited the English throne through legitimate succession and created the United Kingdom. The British conquered the world. And then they lost all of that plus their own homeland. RIP

They wouldn’t have ended up huge without those countries to help them. Let’s not forget that. The English ‘conquered’ those lands because they needed them, they needed the abilities of those peoples.
