he spent 1500 on a claymore worse than a heavy sick instead of spending 1500 on a medium quality true great sword

Yeah, these are pretty clearly wall hangers or maybe higher end of larp, and not any where close to the real deal. Still cool tho.

Important note: Not all swords are designed for thrusting. Swords optimized for thrusting can pierce kevlar

I am interested in how much more damage a HEMA guy would do with those. Also to be fair mace weren’t meant to penetrate so much as cause internal damage.

So just for the record armor at the time was devised around the most common implements weapons were used at large. Most of the time Pike soldiers followed by specialist infantry with shorter weapons like swords, clubs or axes mixed could then cause a break-threw. Armor was never truly a problem after bows and crossbows hit a specific point as even to today's standard guns are the most dominant but it was created around "Effective range" and "Repeating action at range" that changed guns to today's standard 1) Most ballistic vests up to class 3 (without plates), can still be punched threw with a Musket load from the Civil War. I mention this because it was thunderously bad if you don't mention armors reason for changing and then subsiquence to removal from 1680 till the 1960s 2) Ammunition choices and definitive points all have ways to deal with targets. Blunt force trauma is easy to induce against soft style armors. however ceramic armors only can absorb so many rounds before the vest is useless, in some cases the non-ceramic armor might absorb more rounds outright. However the blunt force involved in either case can still kill you. 3) Ballistics have specific calculations, but basically fast moving, small but very pointy, hard projectiles are great at punching threw armor (But cause small damage as they have very little damage spread, for bullets this is cavitation effect). For blunt the idea is using sheer weight and leverage to transfer energy to crush the target regardless of armor. You can see the progress depending on Army but there were specific soldiers for dealing in this roll. Scottish infantry had a special soldier that was unarmored and carried a 82 lb metal hammer and his whole job was to swing the hammer that was 5 feet long and hit the enemy soldiers in the upper chest or the head. the weapon was often swung from the ground up at the target in an arc. Think like a golf swing, if you connect the head, the armor was pointless as the targets head would separate and go flying into the distance So lets just state this: The average musket was 52 - 56 cal (Outliers existed, but this was a general run). Minie balls fit perfectly but was connical by design. When The war ended the weapons were sold surplus a lot. Ammunition was scarce and so ammunition started getting mixed for metal loads. Most common for the Springfield was 62% lead (lots of uses and scraps could be found easily depending on profession), 18% tin (From canned foods usually), 10% wrought iron (Usually from nails as those were fairly cheap). The wroght iron would be the tip of the conical bullet with the outside being a mix of lead and tin creating a alloy round capable of punching threw a class 3 vest like its a joke. It would punch clean threw a bear shattering and tearing threw bone even. Most gunsmiths sold bullet molds to create the bullets and it took little effort to realise how to make ammunition on the cheap. There was a few firing ranges that were donated old faded ballistic vests durring the 90s and rounds like this firing from replica muskets punched clean threw and out the back deforming only after hitting the cement and dirt backdrop. There should still be some videos covering it too. The only time the bullet deviates is directly when striking something of enough density or streingth to deflect it, otherwise it spreads that object. Reason this isnt used today: 1) Rounds deform after hitting specific speeds, adding a limit on range effect (Basically you cant load smokless powder) (Max punch threw is 200 yards, max lethal range of a rifle to accuratly strike is 950 on average with a good optic) 2) Rounds are huge, create good cavitation but are hell loads heavy to lug around 3) Slow to load and fire, best you can do is make it fire from a bolt action, anything else will destroy itself way too quickly 4) Projectiles with lead tend to be heavily lethal, if short term priority isnt handled propperly the poisoning will shorten that persons life chance greatly. Rounds designed out the gate to kill instantly is banned, the rounds have to provide chance of survival in Military service specifically. Civilians can create this load and use it for hunting and self defense if you have the balls to make your own munitions. Keep in mind thats only referancing the reason guns took over, Crossbows and bows had specialty ammunition and even specialty designs to punch threw armor respectively. Italy coming out of the final section of gaining control in its current territory durring the mid 1800s was just finding out what the outside world had and was testing crossbows against Roman tower shields. They thought it was impressive to see the heavy crossbow could punch clean threw the shield and technically imbed itself 2/3rd the way into a second shield passing threw a body. Promptly they looked into upgrading from the Arquebus to the Rifled Musket, but then a seige was broken with lever rifle fire decimating a battle with lever actions from horseback, this made most nations upgrade to a bolt rifle as it was sturdier then a lever action, but most went single shot, Italy, Switzerland, and 2 other nations decided to go with magazine feeds instead and invested hard into those. And then most people just coppied the French Lebel or the Mauser rifle design in the end. The option of range, punching threw lines and cover, and repeating action with less training requirement was just more important. An Archer stack was no more then 50 men, why train 50 archers and have less then 25-35 shots for the line when you could train 15,000 men and load them with bullets that allowed them to fight for a week at nearly 3 times the distance? Now for the average person to be explained how this is relevant to melee weapons as a whole: An Ace Pick went threw class 3 armor in the 80s, just aced like it was a stilleto

Funny thing is I had pretty much the same name for the morningstar as he did. I didn't know they could be called "maces" until I played Skyrim.

a weapon serves a certain purpose in combat. try to fight in narrow hallways and medieval staircases using a spear and a pavise (towershield/longshield). a two-handed longsword will get stuck there, but strikes with a stronger force in open fields. flanched maces and warhammers are good against armored targets due to their concussive impact. comparable to kevlar armor is the ancient linnen armor (linothorax) by the greeks, combining multiple layers of linnen glued together over a core layer of leather. very effective against arrows. legend has it that at the siege of tyrus, alexander of macedonia survived a shot from a ballista with a light injury, after the projectile penetrated his shield and his linnen armor.

He got a bunch of wall-hangers & mall-ninja weapons. I know he's a clown (not an insult), but it would have been more entertaining with better weapons, especially when he has rifles that literally cost over a hundred dollars for every shot they fire.
