I'm sure someone has already pointed this out elsewhere, BUT may as well: 1. The rocket pods on the A-5C are a visual glitch introduced in the latest patch, they don't actually have any rockets in them, just look like they're on the wing 2. R-60's get torn away by flares really easily, it's why that really good looking shot just up and missed at the last second 3. If memory serves, most of the Mig-21's in WT don't have flares either so all those missiles Necrophorus was avoiding was pilot skill. And lastly, you know a new premium's a big problem if even Jingles gets to report on it...

I love how at 04:56 one of the Magics launched had enough time to slow down, lock a friendly f104 (the only jet capable of catching the mig21smt on the deck in that entire group) and ruin their only realistic chance of catching our valiant mig21 pilot XD. And not a word on it from Jingles! Edit: Jingles the Harrier GR3 DOES have flairs in game, it's just an unlock-able mod.
Did it slow and hit or was there another launch? Either way he deffo got shacked by his own Q-5 as Jingles explained their foolishness in using the weapon sub optimally.
I think it was cannon fire, if you look at the tracers coming from the A5C and F-104 at about 05:00 to 05:08 ish and not a missile. I had to look a 2nd time but I think its cannon fire.
@@Skyfighter64 I looked again and saw the target icon when the guy first damaged the f-104, and then the missile icon when it says =owls= China_xiaohong killed him. So in essence we both got it half wrong 🤣. And re-watching it the cannon fire was from the F-104 who was trying to get lucky and hit the Mig 21. The guy you saw was taking out a lot of other stuff at the time it happened. Either way its still a team kill by a wallet warrior.
Fact check: the British GR.3 does in fact have it's flares. Problem was that on the ground they're not really as effective as they normally are to say the least.
Well that just makes me want to ask why he didn't use the VTOL mode. The Harrier GR.3 died because it was trying to do a conventional take-off rather than a VTOL one when VTOL is made for that type of situation when you don't have time to use the runway. In World of Warship terms, this is basically a Geisenienau getting into a close-range gunfight and forgetting it has torpedoes.
@@emberfist8347 it’s not as simple as it sounds. VTOL irl as well as in War Thunder has no tactical advantages other than land and, to a lesser extent, take off from smaller-decked aircraft carrier and amphibious assault ships (which is probably why it is so popular in the US). Besides, thanks to the thrust needed to actually lift such an aircraft vertically, it has probably the best acceleration of any planes in war thunder when taking off horizontally. If he’d have take off vertically, he’d have been even more of a sitting duck as we was there.

I've been grinding with the Yak38 lately and no joke I've seen the same F5C die in a head on (the same person) 4x games in a row to a head on. Dont underestimate the power of level 7s with $60 to burn, they can move mountains with their determination.

Tbh it's fine at 10.0, it's got good missiles, but a shoody bomb load, handles like a truck and has offensive guns that are honestly shit. They're the reason the tech tree ones fell down in br faster than a fat guy going through a floor. When it's top tier, it's great, but the moment you introduce anything with better maneuverability anywhere near it, it should crumple. I could see it being 10.3 perhaps if it made people happy, but there's no universe in which it's an analogue of an F-5C which is only inferior in the AAM it carries.

Actually, the Jingles M247 Sergeant York's guns weren't that bad it was just the fire control system. The guns were twinned licensed version of the famous Bofors L/70 which given it has seen service in multiple different nations to this since it was introduced before WWII makes it clear it is an excellent weapon. The other issue the York had was the Army wanted it to be able to keep pace with the M1 Abrams and Bradley IFV. So naturally, they decided the best solution was to base the vehicle on the chassis of the M48 Patton.
Yep, that was brilliant that they wanted an SPAAG that can keep pace with the Abrams and Bradley, and thus specifically mandated that all the designs in the competition use the chassis of a tank that *can't* do so. It also didn't help that the other big "save money" decision was to adapt the radar of the F-16. The AN/APG-66 was an excellent radar...for a fighter. It was designed to track and target aircraft from in the air, where there isn't any ground clutter to worry about. It wasn't designed to operate from in the middle of that ground clutter. This was perhaps the only instance in the modern era of General Dynamics getting out-lobbied for a defense contract, since their XM246 (which used radar and fire control systems based on the Phalanx CIWS) was clearly the better option compared to the Ford XM247, and outshot the hell out it in the competition. I suspect that all the other entries that weren't even selected as finalists would've also outperformed the XM247. Certainly the Raytheon proposal would have also been better, since it was simply the already proven German Gepard turret on the M48 chassis. But of course, the obvious rational choice would've been to simply buy Gepards. But the US Army *hates* buying foreign vehicles, so naturally that wasn't even a consideration.
@@PyroShark_ Hence my statement 'no matter whatever War Thunder claims it might be'. Point being, it's not a multirole platform. It's a dedicated interdictor/ground attack aircraft with (some) ability to defend itself. If a Q-5 gets into a dogfight, something's gone drastically wrong.
So the m247 is a victim of media alarmism, all of the DIVAD prototypes had chronic reliability and functionality issues at the start of the program. However, by the time the media outrage and congressional hearings began happening, the army had fixed most of the issues with M247. As far as gun AA systems are concerned, it was probably one of the best systems in the world at the time of its cancellation however, it was a gun only AA vehicle being developed in the late 80s early 90s. The program was canceled because the army figured that was easier than arguing with congress and the media.
Good to see people correcting the M247's poor reputation from the media slander campaign nowadays. The two primary stories 'proving' the York was a 'terrible SPAAG' were exaggerated quite significantly. The search radar in both circumstances performed completely as intentionally designed, locking up returns that resembled helicopter blades. It just so happened that the helicopter blades on the radar were actually handheld fans and a latrine ventilator fan.

AlsoI wouldn’t be surprised if the overall cost of M247 was cheaper than M246, the military often doesn’t adopt the best piece of equipment, they adopt the one that meets all of their requirements at the lowest price point
I'll always remember one of my best War Thunder games in the M18 Hellcat... wiped the floor with the enemy team and ended the game in exactly 2 minutes and 38 seconds!

@@shrekrecker Tank destroyers like the Type 16, Centauro etc., already DID have scouting, so the redesignation wasn't a necessity. Of course, the Type 16 and Centauro are now considered "light tanks" too which is even funnier when you realize that they are, by definition... NOT TANKS!
Quick clarification on the R-60M's 'all aspect' capability, because I know some russiaboos will try to equate the AA-8 Aphid-B to the AIM-9L. IRL, the R-60M is actually only capable of detecting a frontal aspect target at any appreciable range if it is flying at fairly high altitude and above the speed of sound. The largest improvement the AA-8 Aphid-B gave was to side aspect shots, because the AA-8 Aphid was a pure tailchaser. A very agile tailchaser, but a tailchaser. Relative to the AIM-9L, the advantage the Sidewinder had is enormous. AIM-9L has 40G turning ability, all aspect lock range guaranteed at at least 4km and longer range. And that is at all altitudes. For fairly obvious reasons, the western all aspect heatseekers with very very very good seekers are not included. AIM-9L, even on an aircraft as terrible as the F-104 would annihilate a MiG-23M in a head-on pass.
'Actually, Jingles' I have The (Non-Premium) British GR.3 Harrier and it does have Flares/Chaff, it just needs unlocking as one of the first unlocks. I'm not sure about the American ones though, they probably just replaced them with 50. Cals

7:28 the pilots name is not only a nod to tryhard, but includes the german unemployment payment called hartz4 to "XXtryharz4XX" basically suggesting you should try the unemployment payment. At least you do have more time to play Warthunder.
Hartz IV is the old name for long-term unemployment money in Germany. So the name TryHarz4 is probably a reference to that. We also used to call (or still do?) people who spend ALL THEIR TIME EVER in a single game "Hartzer", meaning they have to be on the dole if they spend this much time perfecting their skill in a game. Basically like the english "nolife". So it could be a pun on "if you want to improve, try the dole".
I've seen a team crumble that quickly, though it was a ground battle. After a couple minutes, I couldn't find a target because by the time I got to any given area they were all already dead.
When the Pakistani Airforce acquired this aircraft, they had access to F-16s, Mirage IIIs and 5s and J-6`s (which they upgraded to fire AIM 9s) - the A-5C for PAF was a fighter bomber as far as they were concerned. As the A-5C is Modified J-6 (MIG 19), they put in the same modifications that they had undertaken to the J-6, which western avionics, ejection seats and missiles. What would be an interesting addition to Warthunder would be the PAF - J-6, as I recall it had 3 x 30mm canons and AIM 9s.
I think at 10:26 the camera is tracking/on the launched missile, I know you could follow dropped bombs when I last played a couple of years ago so I’m guessing they’ve tried adding the same system to missiles.

We might even have some information to answer them if only we'd spent the last 3-4 minutes following the perspective of an aircraft actually involved in the fighting, instead of one flying around in circles chasing clouds.
also not considering the Magics have a wider search gimball but a tinier lock one meaning it sees more but stays focused better making it less sensitive to flares
from experiance I would say the puff of black smoke was indeed the A-5C sheading weight, but unvoluntarily. I usually see that when someone has flaps deployed at too high speeds.

You have your ADA systems confused, M42 Dusters were used in Vietnam. The M247 wasn't built until the early 80's, only 50 systems, and never made it to a frontline unit. I saw one parked up in a motor pool at Ft. Bliss in late 1987.
M247s were largely free of issues by the time the program was cancelled. They were subsequently bought by the navy and used as highly succesful aggressor units for training for quite some time.

actually, the reason the sergeant york had such terrible radar is that the us military tried to cut corners and gave the m247, a ground vehicle, aircraft radar. aircraft radar didnt have to punch through foliage and other ground clutter to see the target, so it wasnt designed that way, unfortunately, as a ground vehicle, the m247 had to punch through detritus.

at least one plane (F-104) was teamkilled, after an A5C send its missile away and the victim decided to enter the space between the missile and the Mig21 with blasting afterburner

Ah, the Sgt. York, a strong contender for the worst purpose-built armored vehicle in history. During a demonstration, its targeting radar concluded a stand full of VIP observers was an enemy target - and considering how badly executed the machine was, I can kind of see its point. What confuses me is _why_ it was so awful. Most of the time, disasters like that are because the service branch doesn't just throw in the kitchen sink on the list of features it wants, but the branch goes looking for more sinks. With the Sgt. York, though, that doesn't seem to have been the case. The Army meddled a bit with weird demands on what round to use, but the failures mostly seemed to be from shockingly poor execution on Ford Aerospace's part. The Soviets had a respectable self-propelled AA gun with radar tracking, so the tech was there, but the M247 project inexplicably just never figured it out.
One of the enemy A5C's shot down a friendly F-104 while they were pursuing Necrophorus at low altitude, with cannon fire at about 5:08. So that could have been an accident, or a case of you don't have what I have so Ima shoot you down, or a I can't let you steal my kill situation.
He knows, he said it doesn't get the flares it's *supposed* to have like it does in real life. As in, it has flares, but the incorrect type. There are different types of flares, just in case you didn't know. ;)
I was in the GR1, unfortunately, it gets absolutely no counter measures against missiles fullstop, and if an enemy gets on your six, you're basically screwed as it has the turn radius of a battleship.
As someone who somewhat understands the average WT RB pilot, Wins don't mean as much as it would in other games. The winners bonus just isn't that big. so it's best to just rack up as many kills as possible even if that means you die and lose.
The winning bonus is solid, there is debate about re-balancing it. The problem lies in it being a bonus to what you earn. If you don't get a kill or hit ground targets, with the more realistic damage model you can't get a few hp here and there, so the win bonus multiplies very little.
