God damn this game desperately needs a remaster. Don't change a thing, just update it to run on modern platforms with current server availability. Maybe fix whatever overlooked bugs were in the original, but other than that it's good to go.
you can actually play it on windows 10 - there is a version called war2combat which contains the campaigns, expansion pack and a multi-player version on some russian servers
you know - when you got into a game-store, you bought a box with a cd and a detailed description - installation and everything worked, no patches or updates needed. the description of tod was awesome with all the fractions/clans and so on... i really miss those days!!
Thanks for putting all this up here. Just a tip: you can hit space to move to where the recent event occurred. So if they "are destroying our city" and you hit space, you move directly to where your building is getting attacked. Thanks again and good luck behind the dark portal if you decide to go through. Lot's of nostalgia on this end when I watch this.
I remember this awesome game! shame it never really worked on multiplayer as you'd always join a full game and everyone would leave in under 20 minutes without even touching each other.
+Toby Royson I remember playing this on Battle.Net also! Sometimes, I would try to play against AI but they always destroy me before I even set up my first barracks! O_O
To make things even easier, build about 10-12 upgraded guard towers (NOT cannon towers!): 5 along the lake by the first gold mine, 5 blocking the way to the right and 2 or 3 slightly above the gold mine itself once you chopped down some trees That way you will never have to worry about griffin riders anymore (they'll get slaughtered as soon as they try to approach) and you can just built an army of trolls and roll into the city once the CPU runs out of money.
Bournesax i think this advanced unit control was introduced in starcraft and only added to wc2 battle.net edition which was in fact a windows (98) version of the game
God I hated this stupid level, those stupid mages turned my amy into animals, jeez you cant conquer lorderon with animals. All because I tried to launch a major assualt on dalarn and they got their asses kicked badly. If it hadnt been for the dragons I wouldnt have won this battle.
umbrellacorpsoldier1 dalaran was a dificult scenario. Resources are barely the needed to win. Dragons was the key. In pack of 4 they needed to start by taking the eastern side and kill the eagle launcher. After that a second wave of 4 could pick one by one cannon towers unprotected along with isolated troops. A Necromancer used carefully could take guard towers and other pesky buildings... If things are ok, a first 9 grunt wave should charge and take all the enemys magic then a second ogre charge should kill remaining defenders which are mainly mages and paladins defending the middle. If things fail charge with whatever half death remaining troop you have. Save the last 4500 bucks for a backup 9 berseker with regeneration to slowly conquer the map if everything else fails
@ 41:26 - You've got dragons, why aren't you going straight to destroy the mages and mage tower first?? Can't you see the mages are increasing the health of the enemy soldiers??
