Warcraft 2 Death Knight are also known as First generation DKs. They were created when Gul'Dan killed all members of the Shadow Council and resurrected them as Death Knights to serve him. Gul'dan's Death Knights and the Lich King's death knights are really two different concepts. Both wield necromancy, but that's where similarities tend to end. Gul'dan's knights were, as has been said, slaughtered Warlocks and Necrolytes in the bodies of dead human knights from Stormwind, wielding all their old power. The Lich King's knights are soldiers in armor with runeblades, wielding Necromantic power, but with more emphasis on physical strength.

@MyTirion The Death Knights' cape in Warcraft 2 was your faction color. In this case, he was red (The Blackrock clan, incidentally) so his Death Knights have red capes. If he'd been black for his faction color, so too would his Death Knights' capes have been. But yeah, the Death Knights in Warcraft 2 and WoW's Death Knights are two entirely unrelated groups - Warcraft 2's Knights were Orc Warlock spirits in the bodies of dead human Knights created by Gul'dan. They were pure casters.
No. WotLK Death Knights are just normal people who became Death Knights (I'm not exactly sure how) and WC2 Death Knights are the spirits of dead Orc warlocks and necrolytes inside the corpses of fallen Human knights.
If anything, the Liches are closer than anything to the Original Death Knight, and in fact most of the Lich King's original Liches ARE in fact the old Death Knights, as those knights ended up following Ner'zhul from Draenor, I guess Teron just didn't go with him.
Basically for every enemy killed I was always using the "Raise Dead" spell. It was chaotic really, but so much fun seeing all that moshpit of units. The problem was that without the infinite mana spell this was impossible to do. With it activated, there was no limit, so i was constantly summoning skeletons all over the place to defend my Death Knight.
The true Teron Gorefiend and his true voice as well the true Death Knights and their true voice. As the Death Knight stated since now all have abandoned the true Warcraft and how it truly looks like then they the true ones along with their leader the true Gorefiend are coming for you world entering WOW that this other dimension of warcraft with the true horde making you pay for disgracing them and how the story was to go as well the true Deathwing in here as well for in this game is him not that
Ah yes and now it finally reveals the true evil and true dark force in Warcraft of those who truly were evil and what was done just awakened more of the power of evil within them and this is the true Horde which is Shadowmoon and Deathwing should have been the one to lead them with Gorefiend, Dentarg, and Korgath Bladefist as his generals against all and those of the defient orcs who dare go against what they were and these are the DEATH KNIGHTS! Lol. "Death knights own mages", and you proceed to kill them with death coil spam with the infinite mana cheat. You if that's what your comparing with, sure. Mages do beat Death Knights without cheat though, simply due to polymorph alone.
the only utility for an undead army is to serve as leverage to usurp power over the living and, conversely, the only utility of the living is to be used as leverage to usurp power over undead. gul'dan knew this.
I like this "die and decay" animation more than the current WoW's one. But I have to say that Blizzs did a pretty good job out of the class in general, giving DKs their own undead horse, their own necropolis home, awesome and fitting abilities and what is very nice is that DK feels like a paladin, but on death's side which he exactly was since Warcraft 2.
i made a map of the kingdom lorderon and most of the factions.If anyone knows a site where i can post maps it would be a good idea to tell me :P and yea wc2 rulz :D
@stormage09 thats because they are they are not undead knights but more rather thank warlocks on horseback the lichking had nothing to do with these deathknights
@Darkmetiusranger it were orcish death knights from outlands that have been created by gul'dan he just took some old human body's from humans that were in outlands that got killed and placed orcish souls in the body's craeting the very first death knight...teron gorefiend :D
@stormage09 also these deathknights had a similar origin to the lichking as these deathknights were made by kol gath if i am correct? which learned from guldan the mentor of ner`zul the original lichking (he was a orc warlock) which guldan which later transformed into the lichking
NO just no. This is how Death Knights should of been but then again probably would of been a bit TOO OP for WoW so i guess they had to do something different for them to be playable.
@terminario8000 in a quest line his ghost is disguised and asks you to gather his gear. at the end of the quest line he reawakens and rides of to the temple
it would have been neat if they made unholy more of a caster who raised skeletons, used death coil and death and decay and used like holy paladin gear.
Warcraft 2 in its core is so classic that it is timeless! Perfectly balanced! The only things that could make the original game better would have been -updated graphics -expanded editor capabilities -evolving user interface With those three features to drive it, it could be re-built & released endlessly! I would certainly play it! :P
