It does sadden me to see when unique races, characters, lore and more be slowly forgotten. Though on the flip side it brings a smile upon my face to see when Platinum makes another video shining some light on more lore of the Warcraft Universe.

@@UltimateGamerCC it was mostly how they wasted an amazing chance of development with the Amathet. I was invested in that "titanic creatures uprising to return order to the world" concept. It felt like they could have been so much more, instead of a bunch of half baked quest chains and an event. Hell, the king of the Amathet was a fucking rare mob, and even in their own quests they get played by the Old Gods, to the point some random mob in Ny'alotha is called Amathet too. Sich a cool concept (much like the mantids) ruined by not wanting to nurture new potential threats instead of just forcing them into cannon fodder material.

In the Paragon of the Klaxxi fight, Kil'ruk, the first mantid paragon you awaken, is the only one who doesn't threaten you. Before the fight, he gives you a warning(the other paragons mention this before the fight). He is also the LAST paragon that engages you, almost as if he is hesitant. As if he actually likes the player character and doesn't want to kill us because he's been with us the longest. My headcanon is that Kil'ruk only takes up his blades against us because we already killed several of his brothers and realizes he has a choice, let his brothers all die, or kill the player character.

Its because Mantid value strengh above all, if they fight a Pandaren that slays a lot of them, they won't kill him so that they can train against him in the next swarm (or his progeniture). They're respectful and ask the same treatment in return, they want people to respect their cycle and lifestyle because its their only goal in life. Kil'ruk has a deep appreciation for the main character and praises its strenght, he doesn't want to kill you because it would be such a waste !

Yes, correct. It made me sad to kill them, because they were respectful and understood what "honor" is. But we ended up on opposite sides. He himself says in one of the quests that he is "proud" to fight alongside you. And before he dies he says "Well fought, Wakener. We will meet again..." SoO was wonderfully designed, but also a very sad raid, because we had to kill characters which were a part of our journey - The Fallen Protectors, Nazgrim, Paragons, even Garrosh himself.

One thing you forgot to mention about the mantid in Battle of Azeroth is they were led by a new queen who was the daughter of the one from MoP. The Mantid were easily one of my favorite races lore wise that have ever been added to WoW. So happy to see a video on them! I was so sad when we had to kill the Paragons in the Siege of Orgrimmar but like they said…we mantid serve a purpose far greater than theirs or their gods. On the real though, it is insane that the Pandaren managed to live in a land dominated by 3 of the strongest races that possibly ever lived on Azeroth (mogu/mantid/Zandalari). The story of the Shado-Pan is also extremely badass.

I was one of those people who got really invested in the mantid as a concept and was sad when they never really got explored further. The mantid are one of my all-time favorite races from WoW, and I loved questing with and getting to know the Paragons with their different personalities. They were one of the few examples I enjoyed them both as enemies to slaughter or allies to help. And thus, I was so upset when the Paragons became raid bosses; yes, they were psychotic, but they were my friends too! In my head canon I saw the bow that drops from them as a parting gift to my hunter who quested with them, and to this day she still proudly wears the title Wakener. Thank you for this video covering them and reminding me of the good times I had with them and the fan fiction I wrote about them!
@RyoIsamuGaming
@RyoIsamuGaming Год назад
It's really funny since they even fully admit that they are NOT your friends - come the return of the Old God's they're happy to return to their old worship, that being said they hope you heed their warning and join them, as helpful as you've been for sustaining their race. So when they see you in that raid it's a mix of disappointment and understanding - you were given that choice and you've made that choice, so it's the Wakener versus the very Paragons he rescued - insects you got to know but alas know they knew fully well it would come to blows eventually. And that's what I love about the Mantid. They're unapologetic about their origins but pragmatic in the current age. If only BFA capitalized on potential schism and concerns after the tragedy of their empire during MoP...

I just feel like what people remember the most about MoP was how homogenised and samey all the classes got with all the changes along with how incredibly unbalanced PvP was. Oh and also pandas. Overall the expansion was actually pretty good. Same with WoD, Warlords is imo a great expansion just let down by its unfulfilled promises and cut content. Mogu and Mantid remain the only new enemy factions that were added to WoW instead of riding on the RTS's coattails that felt like they could really stand on their own legs and were underutilized. Sucks that they never really made it out of the expansion - Leishen and the Mantid were super interesting. Wasn't a huge fan of Pandaria as a backdrop thematically, but the writing in it was far better than any other expansion before or after.

Klaxxi is the only questline I remember from WoW. It was actually good. I played a ton of that game while slowly hating it more and more, mostly because most of my favorite people were hardcore into it and I enjoyed playing a 'bad' game with them more then something I preferred with strangers.

The mantid never joined Garosh, they were just drawn to the heart of the old god. They were basically raiding Orgrimmar the same time the players were.

I wonder how creepy it will be if we were to see Aqir Centipedes? The typical centipede can wrap itself around prey item, so this will be a huge disadvantage for player characters.

I always thought the Mantid were really cool and it was aweaome that you could actually earn their respect. That speech about Y'Shaarj tho takes the cake. Its omnious and makes you scared of the Old Gods and even Y'Shaarj himelf even though you *know* he's canonically dead. Its also easily some of the best voice acting in the game.

i very much remember them, i started in MOP, not even a teen yet and i loved them lol, my paladin (the chr i made at that time) is still transmogged as he was when i got exalted with them, he still uses a aber sword for his apperance, and he rides on their aber mount if we are on the ground (ofc he has their tabard aswell) i personally think they are a very cool race

I said before Warcraft movie was released, I've said it many times since and I will keep saying it! Imagine if there was a TV Series based on Warcraft Lore. Heck, we could get multiple shows/spin offs focusing on different races/factions/time periods/continents etc.. etc..

@lovelywaz

@@MoonTurky Yeah, it's not like everything is set in stones and nothing can be changed when adopting to a live action show. We are talking about characters here, their journey can (and almost every time) be changed for a movie or tv show. Heck Blizz retcons their own stuff within the game every few years.

"They're territorial and aggressive" just reminds me of one of my favorite shitposts from the LOL subreddit, that had (among other stuff) "let's see how they updated the lore: 'he has a dark and mysterious past' damn, a solid 2 words above average, the lore team really worked overtime for this one" 😆 Anyway, as someone who knows about Mantid only very slightly less than about other races (they appeared in Hearthstone, and that's my main source of info - in fact, I went into this video expecting it to be a top 10 or however many of most forgotten villains, and ready to say that I know all/some from HS 😅), TLthis was really interesting insight, and well presented! 👍

It's pretty funny that they made them mantis-based, when they're CLEARLY meant to invoke the vibes of LOCUSTS (queen hierarchy from bees/ants notwithstanding)

So, we have: - Nerubian 2.0: more civilized, but still evil. - Related to an evil entity related to Old God: Number #364 - They try to save their race, but at the same time they want us dead (even though we help them) - They are ungrateful: joining the Horde of a tyrannical warlord even though we are "allies" (rare Mantid moment in the Horde) - They wonder why we kill them when they are the ones who can't seem to stop worshiping the evil entity related to Old God: Number #364 (makes the Nerubian look like true heroes among all the insect tribes since they were not influenced by dark whispers) - They proceed to be evil again as if they didn't learn their lesson.

Man I remember starting when Pandaria was halfway there to the legion expansion, I specifically focused on the mantid beast tribe cause I really wanted their mount, and I of course achieved it, but it also made me really REALLY want a Mantid as a playable race, Bug people as a concept would be really fun to have, but sadly that was more then likely never going to happen, and it didn't. Still though I remember the Mantid fondly in my lackluster experience with WoW in general

I am so pleased you made a video about the Mantid! I have been thinking about them so much recently because funnily enough, I had this really clear memory of interacting with insect/humanoid entities somewhere and I could not for the life of me remember where - then I see this video! I really wanted to find them again and now I have. I'm a sort of casual player with some breaks in between playing times so I sort of forgot their name (so your video title is apparently correct) but I had such a strong idea that they definitely existed ha!

Like the Nerubians during WotLK, and the Qiraji before that. I had hoped BfA would expand on all of them. I hope we see them all again!
@emetanti
@emetanti Год назад
Well, the Qijraji probably got further decimated by Sargeras sword slamming into their neighborhood and in BFA you kinda put down that new Mantid Empress you put into power during MoP as a world boss. Nerubians got a slight chance though at a comeback, BFAs island expedition had one with some living ones, that living one from WOTLK remains unaccounted for and the remaining undead ones should be free of any influence with the Scourge completely uncontrolled/any Jailer influence gone with his death.

This brings back fond memories of grinding these guys for hours and days and weeks :D I loved the Mantid. Even them becoming enemies made perfectly sense with the prior established lore and all... But, as is the way with Blizzard, they start something awesome, something incredible... and then they let it drop like somuch refuse -.- Every single time. I wont lie, in 8.3 I had enough of it - and I dont trust them not to be like that still.
