To be fair, the furries usually come up with some of the best chapter schemes. I love seeing homebrew armies, not just space marines. Some of the stuff is inspired and inspiring! I always enjoy when people talk passionately about their custom army!

This was such an incredible selection of minis, my offering feels a little meager in comparison but I am honoured that it was shown nonetheless. A little peak behind the curtains, I was really rushing to meet the deadline and didn't actually paint the eye lenses of the helmet on his belt.

I think we were all feeling pretty chuffed with our efforts across the board, and then Heretics and Heroes came in and just blew us all out of the water lmao 😂 Fr tho, everyone has done such amazing work on their minis I'm proud of all of us for making what is essentially almost a Combat Patrols worth of minis in this scheme!

I imagine each ship in the fleet is a bit like a different clan or community on a different island, with the crew rooting for the marines on board their ship like a sport team or a home-town hero. As for why I have this head-canon, I like it when marines and their support personnel have informal non-hierarchical relationships.

In the Latin American community there was a similar case a couple of years ago with tactical foxes. A player created the chapter and part of the background and the community did the rest. It is worth mentioning that said player had an autism condition.

So the hazard stripes on the Rogue Trader Terminator I painted was a complete accident :D When I bought a 2nd ed Space Hulk box, I got a bunch of 3d printed Rogue Trader terminators. The fists had sculpted on indented diagonal lines, they just naturally lended themselves to hazard stripes. All the other ones I am going to be painting as my home-brew renegade Space Marine chapter called the Howling Dissidents.

The part of my brain that's like "ancient Celts probably used more regular paint, not woad, because woad is a dessicant and will completely destroy your skin" vs the part like "well, but space marines have super space skin, maybe they can use it fine" Anyway, super cool to see the range of stuff even dip into some specialist games!

@@Longfang91 Oh yeah this isn't common knowledge or anything, haha-- I just happen to chat with some Celticists sometimes so I absorb little bits of flotsam and jetsam of useless information like this. And it only sticks with me 'cause I love that facet of history (and indeed age of empires, one of my favourite games still!)

@@YossarianVanDriver yeah, I ended up doing a little wiki dive after it and seems like Julius Caesar said that the Britons used to colour their bodies in "vitrum" which *can* mean woad but he might have been referring to the colour rather than a dye. Fun reading!

Successors with Britannic or Anglo-Saxon influences seem to be a popular set of ideas banging about Space Wolves' fans' heads. Hell, banging around my head, too - just search Greymanes 40k if you're at all interested. There are certainly similarities but nothing is wholly original, and we're all playing in someone else's IP hence why I'm not clutching pearls and crying 'ripoff!'. I think LongFang has created a cool successor.
