It had been personal for a very long time... Like Jesse Smith said, this song/scene just made it more than personal revenge. It became so much more than that.
That elevator ride down. Hearing this song and then realization hitting that this is the same instrumental song as lift together... turned from a song of freedom and perseverance into one of acceptance and praise of a god-king that had not a solitary care for them. This moment ripped the heart out of me. Seeing the vent kids bowing in worship stomped on it.
Man i remember get excited when i see the ventkids entrance and say "no way the ventkids survived!! probably they are going to help us!!" and then i see them praising ballas and it just broke my heart.
I know this is late, but if you noticed on lift together you start with the people and rise to the sky. For narmer, you're sinking with a rough ride down. Then you're all left looking up at the person that set themselves over everything.
"For Narmer" hits so hard if you take a moment to think about it. "We all lift together" was a song of hope, of perseverance through hard times, a song to get you through, while "For Narmer" is a song after they've been ground under Nef Anyo's heel, having the Tenno fight for them and despite all that fighting they then get subjugated by Narmer. It's a song, of a people, who have given up. They've got nothing left. The Tenno are gone, noone else can stand up to Narmer. They serve Narmer because......... what other choice do they have? :(
I've never played WarFrame, but learning this is the inverted companion of "We All Lift Together" makes it so much more melancholy. Excellent work Colm as always!
Someone made a mashup video of the two songs and it really shows how well they fit together. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w65e_JNAzGM.html
(spoiler) in the story this is the point where you come to the place that was originally introduced with the pro liberty sonng we all lift together, and now they sing this while being enslaved by sort of mind control drones and they are praising their lack of freedom
This song really hurts in the game. For a long time you watch these people struggle with debt they've had since birth. Fighting so hard for small victories, helping where you can. Then they just...stop. Their fight is gone and spirits broken. Even the vent kids man. That part hurt my soul.
This gave me chills. This is what this song is meant to portray, Defeat. Lost. No hope. You didn't just lose a battle, You lost a **war** other then that awesome!
It's kind of similar to The Seven Hour War, only worse... Narmer makes The Combine look like push overs in comparison that even the G-Man and his employers would struggle.
It’s not uncommon to see plots in which we lose. It’s in a ton of games, hell, it’s the literal base plot for a HUGE amount of RPG’s. But none of them hit like Warframes did. They didn’t tell us how it used to be, they showed us. As you play the game, the lore is built before your very eyes. You get attached to the characters, you are made out to be a unstoppable god of sorts. But then, the new war ends it all. It shows you how truly powerless you are. It takes its time, but that pacing makes it so much more impactful. It’s genuinely earth shattering to see Fortuna Post-Narmer. I have never felt more unrelenting sorrow from one game ever. I can’t speak for everyone here (obviously), but for me personally 9/10 times when I play a game with story, whenever something bad happens, I just sit there like “Yeah whatever they have plot armor so”. But Warframe doesn’t do that. I thought that when we would find Ballas and win like we always do, but then we lost. And the lost is truly felt throughout the rest of the game. Fortuna is enslaved, Cetus is inslaved, with no hope. There wasn’t a “rebel group” that we team up with and win, no, there is no hope. It’s a complete and absolute loss. There is no hope. The Lotus is gone, Darvo, Samaris, Onko, Eudico, Little Duck, all completely under Ballas’s control. You are completely and entirely alone. There is no “rebel group” there is no allies. Only you. This makes it far more impactful, because now it feels like you are at truly impossible odds. You lost, it feels as if it’s over. It feels real because there wasn’t some “rebel group”, there isn’t any help. There isn’t any “Well this person wasn’t under Ballas’s control and they just happen to have a secret weapon that just happens to be the one thing that can kill Ballas” Everyone. Is. Gone. I think that’s why this story feels far more impactful. It feels like a much more genuine comeback. It feels as tho it could actually happen. Ballas wasn’t incompetent like most villains in rpgs and just “happened to forget about most of your allies.” He won. Completely. Absolutely. He is far more of a threat then most villains will ever be. Genuinely one of the best written stories I’ve ever experienced.
@@xyimi yeah but.. due to the way the game and story is structured it is hard ti tell how nasty ballas is. He attacks u one time then 3 yrs later he back and wev already forgotten abt him
Here are the lyrics of the song if anyone is interested! Once again, many thanks to the Author for the wonderful cover. Healed, the pain of independence Strong, our wise and trusted friend We, united in one vision Rise to sing of sorrow's end He, the bringer of the vision Bids you answer to his call Praise the wise and mighty Ballas Heed the ruler of us all For we're all One And the work's begun For Narmer And we all run To our golden son For Narmer For Narmer Here today we sing our story With Ballas we have found our home Virtue once was work together But virtue now is lift alone Free we are now from each other Brothers, sisters, daughters, sons Where once we dreamt of independence Now we stand and dream alone We were all for One Now the work's begun For Narmer And we all run To the golden son For Narmer For Narmer
@@ShugoAWay There is no song in The War Within unless you are talking about the instrumental music which sounds nothing like this. This also isn't a mash-up.
In terms of the change from We All Lift Together to For Narmer, the theoretical aspects of it are chilling. WALT was a wild and fun song, rhythmically varied, melodically simple. An ode to a people, all with their own experiences and perspectives, nonetheless coming together in the best way they could. The instruments are improvised, and the whole thing is something that you could teach a room of untrained singers, and keep humming along to for years to come. This song, on the other hand, trades in the rhythmic variety, simple melody, and improvised nature for a rhythmically simple, harmonically more complex, and uniform sound. Most notes are held for the same value, and while the song is still simple enough to learn and listen to, it carries with it a unity that can only be achieved by absolute cohesion. It tells a tale of a people that have had all individual solidarity stripped away, their connections only existing through a golden medium in the sky. It twists the message of unity and togetherness in WALT in such a horrifying way.
I'm not going to pretend that I know anything about Warframe, but I do know that hearing a new song from Colm is one of my favorite parts of the week. My reminder is set as usual!
This is a reverb of We all lift together, [SPOILER ALERT] it is based upon the philosophy of Fortuna where all the villagers live their life standing together to fight the rule of Nef Anyo... With the new war (last update), they lost every sight of hope because Narmer took control of their minds... that's why they say "Virtue once was lift together, but virtue now is lift alone" This is... sad...
Hearing this in-game after loving We All Lift Together was heart-breaking. What a wonderful in-game moment. Hearing it from Colm, the creepiness has only increased. Fantastic cover, as always, Colm.
Man Fortuna was one of my favourite places in Warframe for years. I loved both the location and covertly working with its enslaved people against the Corpus controlling Venus. Hearing them sing this as the lift took me down to see what has become of them hit hard and got me feeling like everyone really did completely lose to Ballas and those days of a scattered but free system with nothing to stop us are a thing of the past and all we former Tenno can do now stripped of our power is try survive under his rule. Even after New War Fortuna no longer is the busy neon lit city it was but damaged and with Narmer structures still there. The people too that would have conversations and make it feel lively are now stoic and silent.
The people who sang for Freedom now singing for Submission, hearing them sing as I descent back sent chills down my spine As always, great singing, Colm! Hope to hear more of that handsome voice of yours and I hope you try playing Warframe sometime, it's really fun, a little finnicky at times, but really fun
Few games have movement that just FEELS GOOD like Warframe. Vanquish was the last one in that category for me, and that was more years ago than i want to think about.
Can't wait! I'm sure this is gonna be epic, as usual! As a song suggestion, I'd love to see you cover the Chemical Worker's Song, feels like it would fit your bass perfectly!
I've seen people to combine We Lift Together with For Narmer because they parallel, and I hope you can do it too since you have done both of the songs.
@@ColmRMcGuinness Holy Moly please do it! I never played Warframe, but the combined songs give me the chills. I'm sure your arrangement would take that to a whole new level!
The thing that really hits with this is the fact that this song is both musically and vocally arranged VERY similarly to “We All Lift Together”, but is now a dirge showing the new state of the Solaris people, reveling in their subservience. It’s heartbreaking, they fought so hard for their freedom and are now twisted into something worse than where they were
Also written in the same key signature, time signature, and BPM. I'm fairly sure a lot of the chords are flipped chords as well. Search up a video of both being played together, and not only do they go together amazingly, there's also some symbolism in one song overpowering the other at certain points.
@@MDeadcloud And an interesting detail, in We All Lift Together, the voices aren't quite in harmony - it's a group of singers just joining in song as individuals. For Narmer, it's many singers in perfect harmony, all in perfect sync, no variation or independence.
The New War was something else, indescribable. The song We All Lift Together is of the people of Fortuna singing about how hard they've worked to get what they have, and how they will do anything to defend it. This song is from the same people singing about how they've lost the battle and are succumbing to the failure that the Ex-Executor Ballas has taken over Fortuna and how they have ultimately lost everything they have ever loved and known. its a game that really makes ya cry man.
The "Please help me, I'm singing this and I don't want to" feeling was basically the whole feeling of the intro to Stolen Plates, one of the missions in The New War. You worked so hard to help them with their freedom... only to see them like... this.
I'm not sure what I was expecting of this cover, but the fact that you can't make out a single voice just hits THAT much harder. Especially as a Warframe player that's played through The New War quest. Epically done, my man. Epically done.
This is basically what we, the Tenno, feel after hearing this song: Dispair. This song just put the nail into the coffin as to the consequences of the loss of the Tenno. We did not just lose the fight for the last stand, we lost the war and got conquered. We drop down via the lift and we see the once revolutionary Solaris, whose people fought day and night for their freedom and independence, joyously sing about being ruled under one person. It pains us to see them go against their lifelong drive and just stand and praise Ballas like he saved them from themselves...
Good idea, don't be afraid (you gonna understand this reference in so much time...) to ask question around, ask for help, the game don't do a great to guide newbie about they have to do...
For all the issues Warframe may have this song is a perfect example of why I keep coming back for the main quests. They have better storytelling with the relationship between this and We All Lift Together than most games do in their entirety. This rendition was amazing, not sure how I missed its release.
Sounds absolutely amazing. Definitely has a darker tone compared to the rest of Warframe, but to discover why, you'll have to play the game. Not gonna spoil stuff here!
I played new war the day after it was released.. i turned up my headphones to max when i heard it ingame! I find it really difficult often to hear a cover version of something you like alredy but you did really really Great! I enjoyed every second thank you very much!
I don't like to sing, especially in front of people because I was told I was very rudely told by my cousin I was a bad signer as a kid. But my mom came in when I was singing your song and just told me I was a great singer and if I had practice I would be even better. That just uplifted my spirit from years of pain and fear when I sing. So I thank you for your beautiful song to sing to for that ♥️.
When i heard this song for the first time in the game it gave me chills and made me feel like the new war has lost and i lost my everything in the game. My warframes, my allies, all of my other stuffs and this guy here just gave me the exact same feeling almost like a ptsd. What a fine job man!
Jesus effing grakatta, chills all over again. Something about your covers for this game - every damned time - sweep me away and put me back into the goosebump-riddled moment I first heard the song. It's so rare you get to experience such powerful moments twice.
Having played warframe for a few years now. This actually gave me goose bumps. The new war was a masterpiece and now hearing this just makes me want to replay it and listen to this at the same time. Love this. Awesome voice.
That was amazing as always. I've been playing Warframe for many years now and since they've really let loose with musical talent, it has been such a blast. Especially when people like you giving it all you have to bring your own version to life. I'm not gonna lie, I had goosebumps when he started singing and even began crying a bit with so much emotion. Keep up the amazing work.
Went in to TNW almost completely blind. Knew there was an iconic song named "For Narmer", and there's a color palette called "Narmer", and very little else. Based on the name alone, I imagined "Narmer" was a strange but hopeful figure. I was very, _very_ wrong. Realizing this song had the same melody as We All Lift Together was downright devastating. DE are masters at presentation.
From what it sounds like it’s the BBEG’s Swan song to our universe, I haven’t even gotten to this expansion either and…I’m not looking forward to fighting someone who can do this to the galaxy.
We All Lift was way better... Tbh this song isn't anything special compared to other songs in Warframe. Second Dream soundtrack for example is literal goosebumps.
@@egonieser Froma musical standpoint, they are both very good in their own ways, but what makes this one so special, I think, is probably the context in which it is presented. The emotion behind it is further enhanced by the fact you can feel and hear how this song is a twisted and corrupted sister of We All Lift.
No they got Colm!!! In all seriousness, you blew this out of the water juts like with it's counterpart. You hit all those somber parts that make the soul cry! The New War was such a good quest, and you are still such a good artist!
Umbra started quest for revenge, Lotus made our quest personal, but this, this turns this quest for revenge to prophecy, prophecy to take everything away from him like he took everything from us
Wow this is amazing Colm, at first I couldn’t figure out what was so different and then my ears engaged my brain and I realised you weren’t singing with your usual warm Irish accent, singing with an English accent - very unexpected my lovely and as usual beautifully sung. Thank you so much from your Priestess of Bridget in the UK. X
I've had to stop playing Warframe for a long while now, not because I think its terrible, it's that my computer cannot handle the glory. But I desperately want to get back into it, because ngl, THE NEW WAR IS AMAZING. It feels like your single handedly inciting revolution, and that's amazing.
The closest a game has ever gotten to how For Narmer hit was losing the last city in destiny. But this felt different, it cut deeper.. colder.. and my god do you bring all those feelings crashing back.
Man this song hit different when I got to this part. I never seen a game where we truly lost and are now seeing the consequences of loss. I suggest all who don't play Warframe to play or at least watch some cutscenes about the story
I'm with the others who said "The moment I landed on Fortuna and heard the song I thought it would be a great song for Colm to cover" ... And you made us all right. Thanks 💜🥰
This cover made me appreciate the original more. Not because its better or worse. Your voice added something to it, and now whenever i hear this cover or the original it sounds better. And i cant explain why. Man, you got some damn pipes. The tone, the grit, the highs and the lows. Bloody well done sir.
This one made me a bit emotional. This cover is exceptional and just perfection. Playing the quest that introduced the song made me cry and this cover brought the memories right back. Thank you. Your work is insane in the best way
