*IMPORTANT EDIT:* Turn Twitch chat to Emote-only while you play the quest, and type /dnd (do not disturb) in the in-game chat. The backseating will be HELL otherwise. Us tenno love this game, and we love watching people play this quest, but we're too eager for our own good. We'll spoil things accidentally, or on purpose. Save yourself from the mob. Edit: Wow, yall really like to argue, huh? Just chill and not complain to each other, alright? We're here to have fun, after all. I think it's extremely important HOW you've criticized warframe. Everyone who plays sorta knows that there's a major problem with the new player experience. But no one can really point to what's actually wrong, and I think that's because we've lost that new-player mindset. Criticisms like yours really shine a light on WHAT is wrong rather than just crying wolf. A fun fact: a few years ago (2-3 years from memory), the new player experience was DRASTICALLY worse. That said, I am extremely excited for your next video. Remember, when all is said and done, even after all this time... you've still only scratched the surface.

A lot of players get locked into the mindset of how things were when they started. Deimos didn't exist, Duviri didn't exist, Railjack didn't exist, and a lot of these old school players will bend over backwards to scare new players away from these things because of their own personal biases, which I think is harmful to the experience. I've seen people say "Duviri is too complex for new players" and it frustrates me, as it's set up as a really cool tutorial area that lets you farm up some genuinely useful stuff. Sure, it's not furthering you towards the end of the star chart, but pushing to do that ASAP isn't fun or necessary.
@holomatic1549
@holomatic1549 5 месяцев назад
@@Joe90h The thing with Duviri though is that like every other bit of content in this god damned sacred game is an isle of content; nothing that comes out of it can be useful for newbies except for maybe practice and some of the melee that you will need to grind for mastery anyways later on! It doesn't follow the rest of the game in progression, its different from anything you'll see on the starchart (which as a newbie is pretty much what you will be doing at least your first week), and the resource drops from it are not enough to make it a better experience over anything else that isn't the Starchart!

6:39 THIS. If you did the deadlock protocol quest and acquired the XORIS, pls DO NOT SELL IT. It happen to me before when I played warframe as a noob (MR8 at that time) and regretted selling it since its actually one of the better weapons you can use from early game till end game since its heavy attack explosions deal nice damage. (You can get the bp and build it again, it just cost 100k standing at simaris at a relay.) Its best to either save your building of weapons or frames to manage inventory slots until you can comfortably buy those warframe/weapon slots because you are gonna horde a lot of stuff and save a ton of work in the long run, plus earning/trading items for platinum is easy and can build up over time.

This 1000%. I've been playing Warframe, hmm, around 7 or so years (give or take), I've played so many other live services and looter games and, quite frankly...not enough of them, if any really, focus enough on rewarding powerful storytelling and revealing mystery as the main lure of the game. Loot is obviously fun, of course, but working hard to upgrade gear to reach an important story climax SHOULD be the motivation. Instead, most of them just throw more loot at people and expect that to be a lasting high. It's absolutely not. It's incredibly fleeting and temporary. The places Warframe's story and gameplay are heading are far more compelling than just "ooh shiny weapon" to me. And every time I see people gush over their favorite looter doing gear tweaks or showing screenshots of new loot, I just think... Yeah, the industry is still missing the point, aren't they?

I completely agree on the new player crafting experience stuff. I VERY clearly remember how I struggled with gulping down the fact that i needed to wait almost 4 whole DAYS to even get my frame that i worked so hard for. No one told me that i can craft these and have them on a conveyor belt being procured and steadily reaching my needy new player hands. Now, having a grasp on how it works, i always look for new things to craft, and always make sure there is something cooking in the foundry. I firmly believe that teaching how the foundry works and how you have no limit on the things you can craft, plus how many things you can easily get the parts for and outright buy- would go a LONG way with helping raise the hopes of new players and even preventing so many quitting so early.
@SimonLausch
@SimonLausch 5 месяцев назад
I was forewarned, because I discovered Warframe through a Lets player. The wait adds a little bit of excitement and satisfaction through anticipation. And you need that patience once you inevitably hit the ceiling of the content. DE does not do fast updates. They tried, but it came out rushed and unpolished. Also: Warframe can be addicting. Forcing people to take breaks is simply good. Tbh I wonder where he gets the impression that this is what makes people quit. My impression is that people find out about how much can be grinded and how often you need to repeatedly play the same mission, get bored and quit.

I started the game before the market pages got redesigned, so the blueprint option and prices were pushed to the bottom of a box you often had to scroll through. I played for a couple of weeks then quit for maybe a year, only reinstalling because I felt like I'd missed something (Also I was dirt poor and Warframe was free so why not?) Then I asked the in game chat how players were expected to get new weapons without paying platinum, and quickly learned about blueprints. And since then. Even if it's just to keep them from some of the new player traps, I always walk with my friends through the introductory hours and I have turned out some dedicated Warframe players with this approach! Love the videos and glad to see more and more people coming into this incredible, deep and very thoughtfully made and loved game!

@@ARatherDapperTapir Lol there's definitely nothing wrong with playing solo for the most part but there is alot of things in this game that are made WAY easier with open matchmaking, ESP clearing the starchart! Don't worry, the important stuff like story heavy quests are singleplayer locked anyway so you don't have to worry about veteran players ruining that stuff for you! I will say this too, the community is such a healthy and supportive place which I know is a weird concept for alot of gamers. Do yourself a favor and join a big clan with max research and you'll instantly be around players who can answer questions and potentially help you run through harder pieces of content! As an older player that has guided several players through starting the game, and is still trying to pay forward the help that I got when I started playing 10 years ago It's really good to see the honest and clear critique that you have been giving at different stages of the game. There are somethings that older players can't get a clear idea about the feel for, like pacing, and where those problems specifically are, even if we know they exist. On a separate but related note, it is really interesting seeing your reactions to playing the quests in the order that you have been playing them, since they aren't the order that they were released in. It gives me a different perspective as an older player as to how the world is unveiled. For perspective, when I started playing there weren't any of the quests you've played through, in fact the one that you are about to do was the first one to be added into the game, before even the new player quest, but even back then we had things that pointed to the fact that there was more lurking around the corner for us to discover. Here is a fun piece of information: every piece of alien text and script in the game is readable, and somethings that you might have thought were art, especially in the void, are actually writing.

The feeling of getting new frames and realizing the potential of the concept of a Warframe was what locked me into this game years ago. It almost feels like Warframe needs two options for the tutorial...one for solo players and another for someone who is being guided by friends. Because that's one of the reasons why they haven't implemented a more in-depth, hand-holding, isolated tutorial, because many people want to play with their friends right away in the higher-level content. I remember (like 8 years ago now) I joined a clan at MR 8, where lots of the members helped guide me through those early issues of where to get things and how mechanics worked. Also shoutout to Q&A chat if you're have specific questions, people are really happy to help!

The problem with early game quests, they are very old, and mostly just missions with characters sometimes talking over them, way less cinematic setpieces like the newer quests (deadlock protocol, vox solaris, heart of deimos), also, theres a big chunk of the story missing at the beginning since it was played through limited time events way back in the day, for example Alad V appears in the story out of nowhere, you don't know who that guy is and the first and last time interacting with him before the quests he's featured in is on jupiter. Hope is at some point DE might go back and add more quests towards the beginning of the game, but right now they are focused on pushing the story forward. Also i quite like the fact that the tutorial quests don't really tell you much in the way of lore, so you're only hit with the realization of what's actually going on in the natah quest, and the story actually picks up from there with a much stronger sense of direction. From that point each quest basically flows into the next, so the later part of the game is much more well-paced than the beginning.

as a baby tenno myself, i can emphatize with the feeling of surprise when i saw just how well this game plays, how non-predatory it is once you learn the systems, and how much content there is for a new player to explore. what usually drives me away from games is the lack of goals, or reaching those goals too quickly and then feeling like there is nothing else to do. in warframe, you always have something new to try, something to grind for, no matter if its a new frame or a weapon, or just a cool cosmetic that you want to obtain for (the actual endgame) fashionframe. its an amazing game with amazing systems and even more amazing devs who actually care about their players for a change, and i really wish other companies would start taking some notes from them and creating more games such as this one. love your videos, definitely subscribed and looking forward to the rest of your journey!

The junction quest tu unlock a new planet serve as a tutorial and to tell the player what he hass to do and what functions the game has. No login streak, no content that gets removed after a year, and almost no fomo. Of all the things I can agree with, I think one of my most cherished things about Warframe is that I never feel like I HAVE to play it, like with so many other live service or F2P games. There's so many games that try to force themselves into becoming a job, making sure you log in every day to grind out your daily missions, to get the bare minimum amount of currency or progression needed to keep playing the game. But in Warframe, I never feel like I HAVE to keep logging in to do anything. I log in, and I do whichever part of the game I feel like doing that day. There still ARE daily and weekly things to do, for those that crave them, but it's never something you NEED to do. I don't miss out on anything if I don't bother with the daily sortie. I don't miss out on anything mandatory if I ignore the (completely free) battlepass (which I tend to end up completing on accident anyway). I can just go wherever I want, and do whatever I want, which is so much sweeter than the forced burnout that comes with games that force you into a cycle of forced daily and weekly missions just to play the game. Love Warframe. Still my most played PC game to date. It IS a game that takes a long time to fully grasp. I remember for a very long time after I started, I didn't really grasp many of the mechanics, or what progression I was aiming for. I had a friend who helped me along the way with suggestions and guidance, and it's definetly the kind of game where you'll often be heading to the Wiki to check for information. However, I think I still loved that period, despite having next to no clue what I was doing. I was constantly learning new things, discovering new places, making a clan and building the dojo, trying out the different elemental types, obtaining new mods that did wacky things I had no need of, etc. It was this beautiful period of total wonder as the game just expanded seemingly infinitely in every direction around me. Perhaps it's just a personal thing, but I really loved that about the game. It seems a lot of people today are very progression focused in video games, which is to say, if they're not making obvious progress on SOMETHING, be it the story, levelling up, etc, then they lose interest in the game without the constant stimulation of progression. But I was just finding fun thing after fun thing to explore and learn, and at the end of the day I realise that's what ACTUALLY keeps me going in a game; not if I'm making progression into a system, but if I'm just having fun with the moment to moment gameplay, and Warframe is perfect for that.

I think the tonal change here is probably directly attributable to how much the new player experience still needs polish. They've done a lot of passes on it over the years, some of them were HUGE milestones, but 11 years of layered systems that have been explained on devstreams to the hardcore fanbase and then never really explained ingame leaves a LOT of technical debt to catch up on. They should probably have someone just working on it full time at this point. I was so excited to see your reaction to archwing. The aforementioned hardcore fanbase is off archwings and off railjack, and they are two of my favorite game modes I would LOVE to see get more investment, but the community is so against them or ignoring them that it would be hard to justify DE dumping more resources into them. Hopefully this wave of influencers onboarding with fresh eyes will be enough to creep the community opinion back from full-on hate for them. Looking forward to the second dream video. There's more huge cinematic quests after it, but it's where the story really picks up on cashing in on those breadcrumbs (~100 hours in).

Railjack is so… complicated for me. I love the IDEA of it. It’s so cool to be flying around in this big-ass warship. Having a crew. Taking out other huge ships. Etc It’s just disappointing that it never got much further than “kill some space ships, then go in to a regular mission.” There’s a lot of systems in this game that never got finished because they just didn’t bring in enough traffic and/or money. But the potential is insane. I hope, someday, they can give some of these alternate systems the love they need to shine

You're 100% correct, I definitely remember my new player experience, while platinum didn't seem as pay to win for me, as I was happy to wait in between school days (I started many years ago), I had my brother to guide me through the game, and if I didn't have him to really sell me on the many aspects of the game that you only come to understand later on, I probably would've played it off and on for a good while until I came to that realisation myself. Modding, to this day I think is the really big thing that needs to be worked on. A new player sees literally hundreds, maybe even low thousands of mods, and it's hard to piece together how they work together at all or which ones are useful and which ones are not, and a better explanation that didn't have me go to external sources would've been greatly appreciated. Now I say this in anticipation, you have come upon the quest that hooked me to Warframe for years, that's what Warframe does, it subverts expectations, and you're in for one hell of a ride. I hope you continue to have fun, and I think your commentary and approach on the new player experience is a discussion that is important for the Warframe community to have.

The order that you're running into things seems so wild to me, and while mostly I'm happy that you're not stuck going through things in release order (this quest that you're coming up to predates all of the open worlds, not to mention other quests that you've praised), it does seem like DE might have dropped the ball a bit on the side quests. I found Warframe back in 2017 (just before Chains of Harrow released), and The Limbo Theorem and The New Strange were both quests that I ran into pretty quickly. The star chart was the only progression at the time, and there were no open worlds to serve as a distraction, so I was guaranteed to run into them early-ish, which was probably a good thing.

Just found your videos and all of this is excellent commentary. As an MR 32 Warframe player, I find myself nodding in agreement with more or less everything you say. One thing I'd like to highlight is that Warframe suffers from a lot of old, unupdated content sitting alongside new content. You mentioned that you wished stuff like the Deadlock Protocol, with actual cutscenes and switched up gameplay encounters, would have been thrown at you earlier in the experience. The Deadlock Protocol is a much more recent addition in comparison to most of the early game quests. Awakening, the rain-slick first mission on Earth, was an updated version of that mission, but everything afterward with Vor's Prize and the Ascaris, Once Awake, Stolen Dreams, are very old quests, and you can really see the contrast in design and the lessons learned over the years. The early game also had a lot of time-limited events, and plot developments tended to happen in those rather than in quests, so sometimes the game will drop a character like Tyl Regor and his tubemen or Alad V and seem to just expect you to know who they are, because their dialogue was written in the wake of those timed events that are gone now and never got rewritten. Good luck waking from the dream, Tenno. Who are you, and what are you doing in this universe? Answering that question means fighting not just the war without, but the War Within.

One of the saddest aspects of the new player experience is that, from my perspective, they DID fix it... and then the community cried so hard they reverted it. When the Duviri Paradox first released, DE reworked the first login of the game to play a special cinematic with the Lotus talking to you, explaining that you can either start the game in a Warframe (and play the Vor's Prize quest) or start the game as the Drifter (and begin the game with the Duviri Paradox). This was a FANTASTIC decision by the developers, because not only does it front-load some of Warframe's best content with Duviri Paradox, it also establishes some important narrative aspects right from the get-go and offers a far superior tutorial for the games movement and shooting mechanics. Unfortunately, the playerbase revolted. The players all cried about how Duviri is not representative of Warframe as a whole, and that it ruined new player's view of the story. I fully believe those voices in the community were wrong, but DE caved. They removed that new intro cinematic, and put the Duviri Paradox unceremoniously hidden inside the codex, available upon completion of Vor's Prize. And it HURTS. Duviri Paradox is such an incredible tool for new players to have access to *every* item in the game outside of its regular reward structure. You can get warframes and weapons immediately that you'd need to wait over a hundred hours to be able to acquire. And the story is not spoiled in the slightest - your very questions in this video prove that, as did many other content creators at the time. I will never not be salty that the community whined their way out of Warframe having a legitimately better new player experience. It genuinely breaks my heart to this day that that new intro cinematic was just thrown away, never to be used again. At least you can still find it on youtube...
@RedShadowOfSaturn
@RedShadowOfSaturn 5 месяцев назад
So, a couple things that need to be corrected, with the caveat that, ultimately, I agree with you... I replayed a fresh new account to see how this worked, and there wasn't a "cinematic" for this change specifically. The intro cinematic that came with, I believe, the Heart of Deimos update (which brought the new Awakening Warframe intro mission) was still there when Duviri launched. But there wasn't a formal cinematic for Duviri, just Lotus giving a vague choice of which direction to choose. Also, while Duviri does unlock after Vor's Prize, it's not just buried in the codex, you can access it directly from Navigation as the Duviri mask appears under the activity bar, and can be switched to any time a player wants. I'm watching several new players on their journeys on RU-vid, and some of them don't want to do Duviri yet, not because they're not interested, just that they're more invested in upgrading Warframes and weapons at the moment and they want to wait until later on when they're ready. I deeply love Duviri and what it adds to Warframe, not just in reward structures but in imagination...and again, I agree with you that it was a great thing to add to the beginning, as a kind of mysterious extended prologue that most other games wouldn't want to risk. But I also don't blame DE for removing that, and players for not wanting to dip into it if they're not ready. They spent time reworking much of the early game to streamline their trip around the star chart and to Second Dream, likely because that's a bigger hook than Duviri is. Duviri is awesome, without a doubt, but it does hit harder when you have more context. If a person has the bandwidth to experiment, or they happen to finish Duviri early, then they have a great diversion if they like...but its definitely not required and I would advise players who want to focus on the basics first to avoid it.

i think the issue with Duviri being a new starting place is the fact that, it's Duviri. if they tear off the circuit away from it and have that new player experience be something more mysterious. People wouldn't get an issue. I've seen what new players thoughts are when leaving duviri, hell one of them is my best friend. The total shift in gameplay and how the normal mission operates would turn people off. The realization what they were playing was not advancing anything, and was so far away from the star chart where everything is actually gotten. It messes with them, since they would be so used to Duviri. My Friends list is a graveyard of new players, and i regret not telling them to focus more on the solar system than duviri. The only one that stayed is my best friend that i had to force him back into it. I believe what the community said was true because ive seen it happen first hand. It's a good alternate source of stuff but only after you have gotten a grasp like Legendary drops has, and it honestly makes a lot of what happen in new war less impactful once you know what happened to characters.

@steveverera9999 Kinda why I agree that it was better as an option. I liked the idea of it being the new prologue, but if it's turning people off too soon, making it optional was the way to. They were smart to do it that way.

you know, the main campaign quest forcing me to grind out the necramech turned out to be more of an eye opener than a burden due to just that mere fact that the components require mining and fishing on free roam missions, as well as ranking up reputation with a syndicate or a few, finding out more lore about the entrati family, going on those sidequests to earn the requirements you need to increase standing and not just running bounties over and over and over and over again, learning the ways of trading with other players. the game has shown me more beautiful sides of it than just storming through the main quests without putting much thought into anything

Now this might sound weird But I actually really like how Warframe throws you into the deep end and let's you figure out on your own how to engage with its systems. It is so thematically fitting with being this ancient warrior without any memory of the past, put in a new and unfamiliar world. And it also gives you the feeling of exploration without soon-feeding you tutorials on tutorials on how to do every little thing, as is popular in modern game design. When I started out, I've spent tens of hours just sneaking around solo in the Orokin Towers within the Void, using my Shade sentinel to get bursts of invisibility and utilising a suppressed Lex as my main weapon. Poking around the Market to find what weapons I could build that'd suit my playstyle. At that point I actually believed that you could play this ninja assassin that is never even seen throughout the mission - and even though the game has shown me by now that, in the vast majority of situations, this will not be the case, I am happy that I've had that period of exploration.

problem for me is still the very real lack of a clearly defined progressive direction - other than finish all the story content, which is often easier said than done. here's the thing, between pc and ps5 I have over 1k hours into the game and still haven't taken on the new war yet... I have this becasue it's fun to play and I just like building new frames. the game easily accodates players like me who take their time with the story, but it's also super easy to get lost in your own progression along the way. I'll spend several play sessions just trying to track down rare mods or opening relics, doing quick sortie runs, etc... None of that progresses my story or gets me any closer to steel path which is where the really good stuff is - effectively the start of the game with a much more challenging difficulty. But if you want challenge in the early game it's also easy to find. try to optomize your build while actually in high level content, the only barrier to entry being that you either have to have bring a lv 30 frame with you, which is super easy to get just by running a few rounds of onslaught, or you're willing to stick around a level longer then 15-20 minutes. Getting a frame to 30 doesn't mean you're actually ready for high end play, and the game will properly smack you down, even if you're a good mechanical player but are not properly built for the content. I think the game hides this difficulty curve very well and can be quite deceptive with newer players. But when you're chasing a build and the part you need only has the potential to drop on round c or after a certain higher time limit is reached... you'll start to understand how crazy this game gets, and thats honestly where the game really starts to separate itself out from the competition. Because, and this is key, the power creep is real and DE basically let's us evolve and break the game to keep things going. and that thrill of leveling rooms of enemies but only being two hits from constant death is a hard high to beat :)

The relic runs can actually help you get closer to steel path. No idea how many times I've cheated out some nodes by doing the void fissure instead of the normal version just to guarantee that I have teammates

@@Rhuanprof97 I was focused on other aspects of the game and didn't have the required railjack for a long time... I've basically been doing extended endurance runs and simple daily quests before finally turning back to the story - and to clairify, I have over 1k hours combined between two different systems, not the same as having a 1k hours. The account merge was awesome though, and I finally got to combine all my resources into one account. started playing in 2016 too, so I've been in and out of the game for a while, but it's one I'll always come back to.

@@Grimm196 I never thought of that... That's awesome though! I left a good chunk of the star chart alone for a while cause I had nodes no one played and I only recently finished out the basic chart sans new war ad ons, just decided to go for it solo.

You're absolutely right on monetization and i still don't understand why DE keeps the in-game market this way. The most generous game developers seemingly hellbent on making themselves appear the greediest. The in game-market is a relic of a bygone era that needs to change.

Start with Meg, best tip for beginner, her "pull" ability leaves enemies vulnerable to finishers and piles them together so you can get multiple enemies down in a second. Where you point is where the enemy goes. It keeps enemies away so shields can recharge. increase range and efficiency, to get the best out of it.

I agree with ya. When I first started playing I was highly frustrated because there were no instructions at all. If it weren't for RU-vid channels I would've most likely quit. But, it really is so addictive that I want to see where else it takes me. In my quest I figured out that one of the main things to do is get a badass weapon that'll carry me up and up and up. I found it. Get the Torid Incarnon and wipe out gods! That weapon is insane! The hours eventually melt away. I turn it on now just out of habit. It's a no thinking type of game that still finds ways to stimulate. It's an incredible game!!!

A fun thing to consider: the players leaving the game due crafting timegate and not knowing where to find crafting blueprints is an excellent observation, but was not a problem we had in the beginning. In the beginning, we didn't have all that many avenues of explorations to distract us (we didn't even have the orbiter to walk around in - it was just a 2d UI where you can access missions and store), so our attention, even though it was undirected, would very quickly find its way to the store, and the blueprints. We'd usually find this within the first hour of gameplay, so we didn't get lost. I definitely empathize with new players - it's so out of the way that it really should be a tutorial-guided experience.

Warframe is the one game I would describe using the word 'astonishing'! It's vast and varied but most importantly, fun to play. I've got a mere 3700 hours in WF but have since moved onto HD2, I personally think HD2 could learn a thing or 2 from WF!

4:10 press F to switch to gun mode so you can just shoot more rapidly, roll and "supercharge" your pistol for charge shots when reloading. it's better than spamming quickshot which is primarily for staggering special moves and chip damage. just make sure you hit F again to switch back so you can block and heavy or power attack again. 7:30 when you're doing your glaive, you can hold a "rethrow" when the glaive is on the way back. Charge, throw, middle click to detonate if you want to, or hold charge to recall/hold charge immediately after the glaive explodes and starts to return. When you rethrow you get a more fluid animation, and this is actually a technique to spin up a mod known as "power throw" which allows you to stack up to triple damage off successive timed glaive tosses. You can also throw in midair and you sorta suspend yourself slightly, so mix it in with your acrobatics to get really fancy with it. 25:00 *[epic smile intensifies]* please have a stream replay or semi-long play/mildly edited video of your entire reaction to the quests and most of the main quests that come after this one. Trust me. it'll do your views good. we love a good second dream reaction video.

I am grateful to have experienced Warframe in this last decade. Watching how it’s grown and improved overtime through the positive reception of the communities feedback by the Devs and their willingness to listen. I hope they can lead by example for this next generation of gaming so we can see more amazing dedicated projects like Warframe in the near future.

As someone who just hit 2k hours in the game i can try and answer a couple of questions. The reason the early missions aren't as high quality as others is because DE didn't form their storytelling personality yet. They simply didn't know what they wanted to do with the game. This also is the reason as to why there is no coherent tutorial for modding. They reworked it from a skill-tree, from equipable abilities, and ever since then, they just focused on making more cool things for everyone to enjoy. Good thing is, they are looking into ways of improving the new player experience. The duviri start, removal of MK-1 weapons and damaged mods are some things they quite recently did to remove some pain points. Bottomline, they're working on it and it used to be even messier.

Amazing video. As someone who has thousands of hours in the game it is one of my favorites and best games of all time. I agree the most of the new player experience is not done well and definitely needs a revamp. But also everything added after the early stages of the game when it first came out are incredible and have only been getting better with time. It is always very hard to sell warframe to new players cause it really is a game that gets good after 100 hours which is rough and a HARD sell, but when it does get good man is it amazing. Im glad you stuck with it and are getting to the good parts. I cant wait to see more I bet your gonna love the game more and more. Keep up the amazing videos.
