Warframe | Motion Designer Reacts! | New Intro TennoCon 2019 

I really enjoyed all the story-telling elements in this Warframe Cinematic. What did you guys think? What should we watch next?

Depending how long it's been for you, the game has evolved massively. I came back this summer after a 4 year break, and was blown away by how much has been added and changed.

The flowers are lotus's which are the symbol of the lotus who is kinda like their handler/adoptive mother figure she takes care of the tenno gives them direction and given that all tenno are orphans they look at her like a mother figure. That's the significance of the the lotus flower.

I dont care how many times i watch the 2019 trailer. Ill never not get hyped.

A little detail that's easy to miss; the Grineer look different during the action sequences than they do during the nighttime sequence because it's a flashback to just after the end of the Old War, which was so long ago that their clone degeneration hadn't reached the point its at in the present.

As someone who had played this game for 10 years, i can tell you everything in the cinematic trailer is not only LORE accurate with quite a few spoilers you don't know are spoilers But also GAMEPLAY accurate and showcased almost everything a new player could expect to see in their first 20 or so hours of playing and in the way that a player should expect it to happen

The part about this trailer that is really magic comes after it's over, when you realize you actually fight beyond the level of power they show in the cinematic.

So a detail that's a bit more obvious for people who have played the game (so sort of a spoiler but it IS just the events of the video so read at your own peril) , is that the girl doesn't JUST disappear. She turns into a weird little puff of blue smoke. The same odd puff of blue smoke you may have noticed coming off the Warframes right before they stop moving and become statues. It's a very subtle hint for some story beats late in the game.

This trailer is what really made me fall in love with Warframe again. i stopped playing for a few years and this was absolutely enthralling. Digital Extremes did a fantastic job with this Cinematic.

One of the few cinematics were the actual gameplay is more insane then the trailer.

You should absolutely watch the Cinematic Trailer for New War and Duviri too. Those are made by the same team and are just as impressive if not more in some places.

Everyone always says the MC never looks at explosions, but if you rewatch the part where the Tenno are going up the stairs together you'll see my favorite part of this entire cinematic - Volt (the greenish one) actually jumping back from the debris caused by the ship crashing near him, then him catching up to the other two because he lagged behind just a bit. Fantastic detail, makes him seem more like a real person

Gonna hit you with what I know: The Tenno are children who control the energy of the void to use for offensive and defensive abilities, they pilot the warframes (three of the 54(?) we see in this trailer. Each warframe has 5 abilities unique to that frame in particular, 1 passive and 4 active. now to break down the frames we see in the trailer. 1st is Excalibur, the knight frame, when wielding a sword he attacks and deals 10% more damage. we see two of his abilities, Radial Javelin and Exalted Blade. Radial Javelin is when he plunges the exalted blade into the ground to damage (or kill) nearby enemies. That glowing blade we see is , Exalted blade, when active it will rapidly drain energy meaning it cant be used permanently 2nd is Mag, the Elctro-magnetic frame, we see all of her ability's except her passive, he ability's include, Pull, Magnetize, Polarize, and crush. 3rd is Volt, the Electrical discharge frame, we see his passive a couple of his actives. His passive generates an electrical charge per meter which can be released upon an attack, the active we see are, Speed and electric shield as for the flowers we saw they are lotus flowers, a beautiful flower but in the world of Warframe signaling the return of the Tenno each warframe has a prime variant which is slightly better than its normal (except for Excalibur but that's part of a quest) but all in all, its a great game, its very grind heavy, but its worth it since everything is free to play minus most cosmetics (I'm not super familiar with mag or volt, which is why there isn't as much explaining them as there is Excalibur, when you start the game you pick one of the three, I chose Excalibur)

These are the trailers that make people want to play a game. I haven’t had chills like that since seeing the Old Republic cinematic. Warframe is an incredibly underrated game in 2023. If you’ve ever thought about trying it, or going back after a long break, NOW is the perfect time to play!

Almost everyting that shown there is pretty much actual and works in game. To the point of that rocket taking you out of the sky, it's pretty much inevitable. It's less cinematic, but mostly accurate. Aside of time slowing(you just getting faster), and one dropship taking down others with itself(you CAN take them out with one arrow tho(if you make them powerfull enough)).

This was the new opening when they redid the starting mission. Mag's bullet collection wasn't a thing until after this. They added it in as a button hold secondary to one of her abilities.

I have played the game for over a year now and I can say the gameplay can be wild especially when you get access to more weapons, frames and story quests. Story quests are awesome to play mainly because of the cutscenes, story and how some unlock stuff you can use.

Warframe make incredible trailers. Some info for you. The 3 warframes are Excalibur, Mag, Volt (from left to right). Excalibur is basically the typical ninja-like melee frame who summons a sword of pure energy. Mag is the magnetic frame and volt is the electricity frame. They are warframes themselves, the Tenno basically pilot them. The girl throughout the cinematic is a Tenno herself (has she has little metal pieces of her face), children who were touched by the void and given incredible powers but need the warframes to actually channel and use their powers. The cinematic itself is split into 2 time frames. The warframes fighting is thousands of years in the past to the girl, at the fall of the orokin empire. Once the orokin fell, their job was done so they went into a deep sleep in stasis called the dream.

so the reveal when her hood comes off is the metal parts on her head which are called somatics, which reveals that she is a tenno (tenno are children who use the frames (statues)). the flower is a lotus flower and the voice over the whole video is the character the lotus who is a guide to the tenno. tenno is a direct reference to where the children came from, as they were victims of a failed void jump (void jump is like slip space) of the ship named the zariman ten zero (10-0). the large statues in the room the frames end in are statues of a man named albrecht entrati whose name is most probably a reference to Albert Einstein, as albrecht is the man who discovered void travel which is a major part of the science of the warframe world and is the cause of the tennos powers. the sound you hear when the frames all drop to the ground is the sound of transference (which is an ingame ability to leave your warframe and enter the combat as your tenno child).

volt is that one comic relief guy through the whole trailer hes like "oh shit oh shit the fuck do i do what the fuck is that excalibur help me"

Only thing they didn't do very well is clearly define with Volt does. They show him running super fast by showing bullets flying in slow motion, puts up a shield, then he is shocking people, its the weakest of the demonstrations. It essentially gives Excalibur the most attention to detail, followed by Mag, then Volt. You mentioned its been a while since you played this game last? It's a great time to jump back in as this is how the game starts now. They actually added a whole new expansion that ties into a late game quest in a way, but you can start this new expansion (Called Duviri) the moment after you beat the tutorial. This new expansion can also be played after the main story as well, but that takes 2 weeks or so to get to, but totally an option as this Duviri quest (without spoiling) delves into paradoxes, so it seamlessly links up no matter when you play it. Duviri is also a second stab at teaching you how to play the game as originally when it was added you had the option to START with this expansion, but it apparently confused some players in what warframe was so they removed it as a starting option, but again you can play it immediatly after playing the new tutorial.

Nice critic ! i see this video as a meta translation of warframe history , with all the player who played back in the day and come back now. All the graphic reference about POV and time passing are amazing. Imo the woman is a representation of the company welcoming back players.

I love watching this cinematic as a reminder that what is shown is basically the power of the starter frames in the tutorial. They can become much stronger in the game lol

Just letting you know. The flowers are depicted to be Lotus' Which... The Tenno have as a guide in their missions and plays into the story and lore immensely. The Lotus, is the Adoptive Mother of the Tenno, hence the flowers being lotus' placed in front of the Tenno as a tribute.

Dude go back into Warframe there is SO FREAKING MUCH now. It's legitimately insane and the story! The Lore! The sheer depth of the background and details.

Those flowers are Lotus, and the name of the mother of all Tenno is also Lotus.

watching your reaction brought more hype than i've ever had watching these by my self. it's good to know someone with a lot of skill thinks they are just as cool as i do, if not more because you know the effort that goes behind such a thing. really really fun watch.

One of my favourite game. I did finish all the way to the new war. It was amazing. Also that was lotus flower which is like a main symbol for the game which also named by one of character that taking care of tenno. Lotus flower also mean immortality and reincarnation.

my favorite thing about the warframe cinematics have to be the way they blend the lore and their player base together. An example being how warframe lore reads very dark, gritty, and violent world which it definitely is but the characteristics they add to tenno's actions/personality represent how the warframe community play and does things, well at least the general community meaning that the way we play can be a mix of goofy, erratic, a bit linear sighted and for the most part not efficient killing machines. Which in the lore tenno are elite killing machines that tend to act on orders or logic without a fault. So I enjoy seeing the cinematics and the personalities they give to the tenno controlling the warframes.

The girl didn't disappear, she was never actually (physically) there. She is Tenno, the pilot, astral walking from her pod as she's waking up, reliving the final moments of The Old War before the Tenno went into hibernation

Pretty much, the Tenno are the ones who use the Warframes (which are the suits of armors she putting the flowers infront of), and they use various Warframes to protect and take on the forces that try to subjugate the systems. Also, when she disappeared, it was that “moment of desperation” that allowed her to awaken as a Tenno again. To become the wielder of a Warframe, it’s called Transference.

I love this cinematic, I remember the first time i saw it, I was so hyped!

the girl is the Tanner, the Blue Mist, is them leaving, can you see the blue mist again is her entering one of the warframes.

The tenno are basically the people that operate those suits or "frames" in battle called Warframes. The blue light where she disappears is the power of the tenno to go in and out of the suits

The Warframes, the three characters shown fighting in this cinematic, are indeed combat proxies operated remotely by the Tenno by a process called transference, by which an operator's mind and sense of being are projected into the Warframe like a lucid dream. The Tenno is the Mind and the Warframe the Body

i have watched this trailer way too many times, and it never gets old! there are a few trailers like that in this game like the call of the tempest arii and fortuna trailers

5:25 that's on purpose, its a hook. The lore is fantastic it's just a chore to find and learn, you get chunks of lore where they throw names and concepts at you and if you dont go looking for it you will get lost. Basic lore sum up, might be spoilers: A long time ago a race called the Orokin was at war with their own creations and made the biomechanical soldiers called warframes, they wernt able to control them properly then you came along. You are Tenno, a child who survived a space travel incident aboard the Zeriman Ten Zero, the accident gave you abilities that gave you powers, specifically the power of Transferance allowing you to possess the suits and since you are children you where easier to control, it backfired however and you eventually turned on them like all their creations do during to war your numbers where thinned after you overthrew them and you went to sleep until the system needed you again and that's where the game starts.

I started late needles to say missed couple months but finally after roughly 3 years hit True Master Rank

Put simply Frames are avatars, yes. Idk why she disappeared, she's probably a Tenno (operators of the frames) and they have magic that allows them to "transfer" inside warframes. In the intro 3 warframes are struck by lightning but we only see one moving, so I guess that explains where she went. Btw those three are presented to you at the start of the game and you can choose one.

Ok so here a bit a bit of a lore dump to answers some questions that where askes in this Video and ofcause that comes together with giant spoilers so if you want to paly the game and the storry missions by yourselve then I would recommend not to read this. So now that we are on the same page: The Flowers placed inf fron of the Warframes are Lotus Flowers and a kind of Iconic in the game. They kind of represent Lotus, who takes care of the Tenno and are represented as a stylised version as the Icon of the game and it is the first Glyphe (Profile Picture) every player start with aswell. The Warframes are bio mechanical suits of armor created after a failed experiment with simmelarly disinged combat drones. The insides a basicly a strain of a technoside virus that mutates flesh and coverd in metal as skin. The offer the Tenno that actually controlls the Warfarne a way to channle their Void Powers (space magic if you want to call it that) in ways that they usually can't to acieve a kind of controll that they lack in the beginning. The sword Excalibur (the first Frame that was shown in the cinimatic) uses was on of the ways the tenno coul cahnnle the Void Energy with that specific Frame and the reason why he doesn't use it permantly is that it is relayend on that enegy and it can run out. If ther are any more questions that I missed or come up I'll try to awnser ^^

If you decided to pla ywarframe again, and have unlocked "the operator", you should pay attention to the sound of when the warframe gets "'disconnected" a bit before the end of the trailer. This 2019 trailer is filled with amazing details that are IN the actual game

I feel like warframe would make for an amazing movie or show.

I start crying every time I think about what a great story this game would have had, or even if they had made a movie, if not for the fact that the whole story revolves around endless farming...

I'm one of those old farts that has been playing since the actual original intro, and that was back when Loki was a starter warframe. I will always be the cryo pod tenno found locked away one of the cold planets. To this day I'm still not sure what planet it was because Earth doesn't have a Moon in the game, but this could also be a retcon after a decade of completely changing the intro, and it could have just been the north pole or some arctic area on earth then.

You should watch the other cinematics if you want to know more about the lore, the duviri one is really cool

3:00 yes its a different sword, the one hes using at the start is the skana, but the electric one he pulls out is his exalted blade, its his ultimate ability

Just to clear it up some. The three statues are warframe's the girl is a Tenno. Warframes are kind of a techno organic weapons platform slash avatar the Tenno use. Tenno can transfer into these warframes using an ability called a transference link in which the Tenno becomes one with the warframe which is why the girl disappeared. It was to kind of show her transferring into into a warframe without giving too much away.

When you find out the Girl was a Tenno in control of one of the frames 😂

Well it is a qvatar but made from infested and steal where infestet itself are part mechanicl, they are biomechanical doll control by somone who power was to big to use in own boddy and was transfer to the warframes to trow energy, control magnetic, create rift in reality or just create own time bouble

Yeah so effectively the "wake up" is the girl, the operator, waking up. She operates a warframe. Being in the water is a metaphor for being suspended in a 'dream'. She's drawn out of the dream by the narrator, 'The Lotus'. This is - context, giving her journey in waking up. That's the lore explanation. And it's awesome. A detail to notice is when the narrator says "and then, they left" all 3 warframes have a blue luminescence around them. The same luminescence is seen when the girl takes her hood back. This represents 'connecting' or 'disconnecting' from the warframes. She disconnected, and was suspended in the lake, and then when she awoke, she re-connects.

if you are asking about the over all game lore thats a different question then asking about the tenno lore . for wth tenno they are void touched kids ( well not really kids their over 100 years old ) that use transference to merge with warframes warframes ( the originals aka the primes ) were soldiers that got infested and manefested abilities but kept their sense of self the orokin used them as vanguards and cloned lesser ( regular variants ) from them eventually they refused to be controled the orokins tried drugging torturing jailing blackmailing them but nothing worked then they used transference with the tenno and that worked for a time they still rebelled later the orokins ordered the tenno be killed and the lotus hid them in stasis after they defeated the orokin in an open war. you play as one of the tenno reawakened then later brought out of stasis regaining your transference in its entirety and then the story runs into todays lore. key notes = Every warframe ( the prime version ) was a person before becomming a warframe they all have personal lore. every operator= player : plays as a survivor if the 10-0 jump accident that gave you your void abilities. -i hope this answeres your question - the reason excalibur doesnt always use the energy katana is because its produced by compressing his own energy while devestating it is highly taxing to his available strength.

I can't be the only guy seeing a very stark resemblance between him and Sheldon from Digital Extremes (the Warframe devs)

The story alone. I started about 520 days ago, 3200 hours played. Came for the trailer, lingered around for the story, stood for gameplay. Themes that DE incoporated without every putting ones nose to directly at it: Mental illness, trans rights, the worth of life, the failure of judgement of people we respect and so much more.

Seeing Excalibur run up that wall made me nostalgic. Wish that was still in the game instead of the lame wallhops that we currently have.

I like how Chomp hyping warframes as heroes and saviors, while they are literally monsters. I mean... They are a walking war crime dispensers, terror incarnate, fear troopers used by corrupt and overly rich human lords to control their empire by fear and force. They are so strong, that even one warframe can be considered an anti-army weapon, capable of stealth infiltration and on-land or in-space open battle, they are an overwhelming force even when outnumbered hundreds to one. Tenno destroyed an entire empire that made them by beating genetically modified clones that were made for war into submission because their momma told them to. Warframes do help a few poor guys from time to time, but at the same time they cleanse entire galleon ships of all life and constantly slaughter tons of people to achieve their goal, which was (until recently, and tenno had no idea about their true goal, but nonetheless) simply murdering equal numbers of people from each dominant force in the solar system, so genocidal space-robots could conquer it easier.

The Lotus is the name of the Handler for the Ten0 (Tenno). The Drifter laying the Lotus flowers at the feet of the Warframes is in honor of the Lotus. Excalibur is the master of the blade. Mag is a master of Magnetism. Volt is the master of Electricity. (As fast as lightning and strikes like it too.) Each Warframe is enough to topple a space fleet on their own, with some doing some amazing feats of strength.

"Is it like an avatar?" Every Tenno: "Well yes, but technically no" Also adding on that your pet can actually bring you your ammo back in the game

[spoiler] So the cinematic is not accurate to the canon because the tenno (here the girl) are sleeping on lua (the moon) in pods and controlling the warframes (here the 3 "soldiers") until the "second dream" quest where you bring them back to your orbiter When the girl disappeared, she went into the warframe and thats called transference. We dont know where she went in the cinematic, because in game your tenno is in your orbiter when you are playing with the warframe (this shown in the "war within" but im not 100% sure which quest) The flowers are references to Lotus, our guide, and i think her other forms. 1 Lotus 2 Margulis 3 Natah Lotus is the ideal mentor/guide for the tenno, they "created" her. Idk alot about margulis, she was an orokin (descendant of humans), basically the race who created the warframes ***(well come back) Natah is the real form of Lotus, a sentient, daughter of Hunhow "sentient destroyer of worlds" Going back to Margulis, shes not Lotus. Margulis is another different person, but she is the one the Tenno wanted to get when "transforming" Natah to Lotus. This transforming thing can be confirmed in the "Erra" cinematic prologue to the new war. Erra is the brother of Natah. **** The warframes and the Tenno: basically the warframes are failed experiments/creations, one kind of supersoldiers who turned against their creators. The tenno are the children, who got lost in the "Void" in a ship caled Zariman ten zero, and somehow got the power of the void. Tenno can be recongized by the metal parts on their face and head (idk how they call it) In conclusion, 2 failed projects somehow created a great relation This is a really fast lore with spoilers (and maybe errors) but theres alot of lore and i mean a lot a lot I didnt even talk about the new war, duviri paradox, 1999, not even the sacrifice and this list only keeps growing

That’s just it they didn’t turn to stone they just look like it because they have been there for so fucking long that there’s an inch of dust on them. She wipes it off of the one visor and you can see the shiny glass or whatever I mean, it’s probably not glass. You know Hercules glass or something I mean who knows but they are war frames that have went dormant, without revealing too awfully much they’ve been there for centuries, I think

When she disappeared, it was transference and she entered Mag, the “force” Warframe

I can tell it's been a really long time since you played warframe, I bet all of my platinum you stopped playing before the Excalibur rework because you didn't know of his exalted blade

The main character drives the warframes. It's also a swappable/utility to it. The pets vary, cats, dogs, mutants, drones. It's entertaining. 😂

a little late on the commments, but for anyone still wondering, those are lotus flowers and yes they'll be important later; of a sort XD
