Love all the necromunda and mordheim content. I’m trying to start up a local community group, but it’s been hard going. I know players (or at least hobbyists) are out there…because people have been buying stuff from the stores😅
Fun fact. Gorkamorka was based on the origional necromunda ash wastes idea that didnt take at the time. We used to play Necro campaigns using gorka rules for "ash waste" scenarios
@@Wolfnstone Yeah I loved Gorkamorka, having an Ork injured and converting him up with a new Cybork body part. Remember I had one who had the 'monowheel' replacement for his legs.
Eric, you have made me fall madly in love with those oldhammer sculpts! Something about their quirky, not-quite-right proportions and the weird poses are just so so so charming! My wallet prays for me….
I love the idea of a extra long board set up as the very edge of the hive city transition into the ash wastes. Have the hive wall on one side of the table, sprawling out into dilapidated industrial remenants and the vestiages of the hive trying to expand, into desert wastes and rocks, ending on encampments.
Oh man. I left miniature gaming behind in the late 90s, and miniatures entirely in the early 2000s. But I have some very fond memories of playing Necromunda. I hadn't much enjoyed playing any Warhammer games in years (I had to play them because of my job at the time) before Necromunda came out and it really was a blast of fresh air. It was the first time since the original Rogue Trader rules that I was so excited to get to the table. This would have been a welcome expansion back then. Looks like they may have finally accomplished what they failed to do with Gorkamorka.
Aaaah yes Sgt Eric will make the PERFECT traitor guardsmen leader for my alpha legion… I mean… definitely a loyalist soldier. Nothing to see here… Hydra Dominatus
awesome work as usual. always love your XPS foam rocks especially, love seeing them, I think they're some of the best rocks in the tabletop miniatures scene! looking forward to the video focusing on it!!!
7:18 RATSKINS! I remember a Magazine from 1996... Each GW Product was featured in it. I loved Fantasy, 40k, Necromunda, Gorka Morka.... They Showed the Full Armies, Factions and Single Model. That Magazine and the Pictures and Minis in there where MAGICAL!
I ♥your vision of necromunda :) and your spirit between 😁 I try to start a mix between old & news and yours videos are cool for inspiration, thanks for that :)
Yeah GW don't want to redo the Ratskins because...well sure they *look* cool but they're also heavily leaning into negative stereotypes of Native peoples...and you can understand what a shitshow that would cause if they did them again just as they were in the original Necromunda.
Hey, remember when like 4 years ago you're working off of a beat up table in a corner of a room or some shit? I don't. Look at these fucking production values. Good Lord.
Love your work, inspired me in so many of my builds. Your 40k/necromunda builds are some of the best I've seen. Cannot wait for the upcoming videos. Keep up the great content, just wish you had more time to upload more frequently, but alas you have child/life (I know your hobby pain) May the Emperor guide your hand in all that you create.
Awesome work, Eric, and what a cool model! I haven't signed up for anything that quick in a long while. I love this Mad Max desert theme, I have a similar DIY mat and factory terrain inspired by your videos, just played my first ever game of 40K on it yesterday with a friend of mine.
Wow. I was not expecting the Rich Piana mention in this video... He would've fit right in with the Goliaths, there's no question about that. Rest in peace.
Great collaboration between my favorite RU-vidr and my favorite 3D designer. Beautiful minis from Eric. When I saw the preview of the sculpture, it already seemed somehow familiar.
You know the ripped off the Goliath Mauler from the jiralhanae Mauler from Halo, right? I think...needs citation. 100% make that truck a Corpsegrinder. Its silhouette and aesthetic doesn't fit the other gangs; not chunky enough for Goliath, not sleek enough for Esher. An' them blue gitz would junk it up more, so it won't fit them unless you greeble it to death. No, the ratskins aren't canceled. They're nothing to do with Amerindians; too scrap-animistic, too brainrotted. And even if they were, inspiration is not imitation, and can't be mislabeled as appropriation.
I created a 40k space marine chapter based on Necromunda. My Angels of Oblivion (Dark Angels successor) were based on a hive world and the sixth through tenth companies were all scouts. Their color scheme was all gray, with black accents, earning them the nickname “the ash knights”.
Maulers seem like a clear inspiration from Halo 3. They look like Brute Choppers, and they're named after the Brute "Mauler" shotgun. They also feature two forward-facing spike blades like fangs on the front of the vehicle which hold striking resemblance to the Brute "Spiker" submachine gun. Both inspired by large motorcycles that make you lean back called choppers of course. That's just my two cents.
Nice seeing some Necromunda stuff, sadly in my area the only GW stuff with remotely any support is the big basic WH40k and Sigmar but Im still planning to slowly build up a Squat prospector gang just because I can.
This vid makes me miss my Spyre Hunter Cadre :( One of my favorite memories playing the original Necromunda was a time when my fresh Orrus stumbled out into open terrain and got lit up by 2 experianced Goliath Heavies. Between the two, they left him with one wound. Passed a Bottle test and moved on to pulp 3 would-be Juves, and 2 juiced up gangers before the rest ran for the hills! 'Old' Sephim died off table due to his injuries 2 games later, but those wins paved the path for his Yeld and Malcadon partners to finish out thier hunts before the end of the campaign.
Tbh ratskins definitely fall into that category of extremely 1990s "ignorant while not being particularly malicious and probably trying in their heart of hearts to be inclusive" racism. They went for the sort of Avatar style "they want to protect their lands" like hey, they're good guys compared to the gangers. But between the name, the tomahawks and Bows and big noses and rat heads shaped like feather head dresses I doubt we'll see them. But hey I thought that about Enforcers too- "well there's our Arbites no way are we gonna see the blatant didn't even file off the serial numbers judge dredd models " and nope! We've got Space Cops and The Cooler Space Cops.
Coool. I've deliberately gone all-in on cultists for my Crimson Slaughter army so I can play Necromunda too. Not sure I can use a Sgt Eric, but in the long run who knows...? 😁
So your comparison of Primaris bikes and Escher jet bikes is my exact problem with new Necromunda! It is way too high tech with a focus on special units. I long for the days of two gritty gangs duking it out, not two hyper elite operative groups with mega advanced equipment (and Cawdor)
The new Ash Waste Nomads are some of my favorite models GW has put out, so that’s who I’d choose. I don’t know Jack about their mechanics though. But your old Delaque Gang is pretty sweet.
Love that Reaper Miniatures netrunner. He pulls double duty in my Reality's Edge game as well as in Stargrave. The Chaos Cultists were the first 40K minis I purchased when I got back into tabletop miniature games. I used them as raiders in This Is Not A Test. Spent some time combing through eBay to get the whole set. Now they're everything from raiders, to thugs, sci-fi criminals, and rag tag space pirates. They are just really cool minis that can fit in a variety of games. Props on getting your own personal mini.
Always good to see you upload. They provide so much inspiration that I come back to them very often. I should get into Necromunda but I've got too many games to play along with building my own. I just want to thank you for the passion and cearly joy you get when talking about this hobby.
Hey Eric. Lived in T.O for almost 20 years, born and raised. Lived near Birchmount and Sheppard for many years. Nice to see a fellow Torontonian nerd out on my fave games.
For your Scavvies gang, you could use the Outcasts gang rules from Book of the Outcast. One of the recent Apocrypha Necromunda has rules for adding Mutants to your Outcast gang.
We were joking about the Goliath riding adult-sized Big Wheel trikes in the weeks before the Mauler models were released. Huh. Guess the GW designers were lurking the group. And the Escher's rideable hairdryers continue their decades-long tradition of desperately wanting to be Tank Girl.
Great video and the new Necromunda minis look great (along with the Ork kommandos in Kill Team) as amazing sculpts & being just a fun time painting them. Love to see you try out other fun terrain ideas for Necromunda in future videos.
I wish I still had all of my metal original gangs from the old days. As is the only one I have was a converted Chaos Coven gang based on the rules from one of the supplement magazines. I do have Ratskins that I need to revisit and paint fully, a set of Tallarn desert raiders that I was converting for Ash Waste Nomads. But I sold off my Van Saar, my Scavvies, my Scryers, my Pit Slaves, and probably a couple or three more gangs. All stuff that probably goes for double or triple what I paid for it and loads more than what I sold it for.
I really appreciated you sharing with us your gangs. It's kind of inspiring, especially with those beautiful terrain pieces and backdrops.. My nephew has recently gotten into Mega Bloks figures and after getting him a few cheap ones off Aliexpress, I'm considering green stuffing them into a Necromunda style ganger as a gateway for the young one to try out painting and tabletop gaming.
It definitely sounds like you've fallen in love with the ash-wastes nomads, and as if you'll also be able to use your chaos cultists and the favourite models from the old Escher gang in order to mix in with the AWN and build something truly unique and yours with plenty of kitbashed vehicles.
Finaly its Orc Builds for the Humans, I always loved the idea of a ramshackled vehicle tearing across the terrain that looked like a patchwork of bits crudly stuck to make something, I hope to see more of this in regualr 40k and on lots of 40k channels.
"I hate the idea of a world where the police are so corrupt and brutal that they are practically indistinguishable from another gang" That's just Los Angeles. You should add some thin blue lines and punisher logos to those guys for flavor.
Love the truck and I’m looking forward to the Ash waste layout. I have an old Spyrers Gang that I could not part with when I had a clear out and I can see the Sgt Eric character fitting in as a hired Merc for that “one” battle to make sure they beat that “under-hive” scum.
Awesome video. I doubt we’ll see ratskins again not because they’re based on a Native American culture, but because they are based on harmful stereotypes of native Americans.
I have been making a gang of cowboy/orlocks for the ashwastes this last year, I'm being that this series will help me kick back into competing that gang and their home base of TreadTown!
Funny i bought the same truck thinking it looked similar to a youtube video i saw, currently turning it into a hab hauler. Great video the second time as the first.
damn eric, why does each video of yours makes me want to start a new game system?! stoooooop 😂 but jokes aside - really great video - necromunda is definitely something in my future to do list 😁🤘🏼
If you're using the original and best rules, then it has to be the Ratskins.. I've been waiting for them to be re-released, but by now I don't think it's gonna happen.
