6 months in and Ciara has painted so much more than me haha! Apologies for the janky audio, technical issues were had! Hope you enjoy seeing all the lovely stuff she's been doing.
Yeah I was expecting it to cut to a badly (well not for a newb but yeah) painted model.. and I just can't believe it xD admittedly it might be because I'm a bit lazy and impatient but yeah, better looking than my minis now after 20 years of painting xD
40 years old. Started playing at the end of Rogue Trader and really got into in 2nd edition. Married to a wonderful woman for 17 years that also plays and paints her own armies. We need more women in the hobby!
Also, I mean you should also use war games Atlantic infantry, they are cheaper and wonderful for guard. For a couple extra pounds you get, 90 heads, enough bodies and legs for 30 guys, and loads of cheap plastic
Been painting on and off for about 6 months. What got me into warhammer was i took a mini painting class at my local. The cool factor is how I started. That and ease of painting i went with Tau. Now am working on space marines and necrons. But a builder and painter i be lol. I actually have yet to play. For now i enjoy the solitude of listening to an audio book or music as I paint my "little plastic minions". Keep up the good work.
This was amazing! My gal, while tries to play, is also very overwhelmed by all the rules and moving parts involved with the game. She however loves the look of the models and painting them. I feel just having her involved in the painting processes is very motivating for myself to complete projects. Painting together is a great way to spend quality time. I think where guys fail to bring their significant other into the hobby is that they don't play up the crafting side of it. They overwhelm their partner with nerdy lore talk, pages upon pages of rules, game play that makes no sense, etc... assembly, painting, and crafting terrain are a major part of our hobby. Not only is it a major part but many other hobbies use the same materials and techniques. Dollhouse, Trains, Canvas Painting, Woodcrafts, Holiday Decor, Floral Displays, etc...
Thats exactly it! 😀 Ciara really enjoys the hobby side, so I just do/did what I can to help her get into that. We often talk about techniques, and although they have different names, she uses the same things in make up and cake decoration, its interesting.
Holy moly Ciara has gotten so good in only 6 months, she's very talented! Great video both of you, as a person who recently returned to the hobby after a near 15 year hiatus, it's nice to hear other newbie's experiences of the hobby, as it can be pretty overwhelming at times. And how are you only at 16k subscribers, your production values are brilliant - consider me subscribed!
Just got into the hobby a couple months back. My first army was the Indomitus Necrons cause my friend and I went half and half, Ive gone a little crazy and I now have Thousand sons and grey knights armies for Killteam
Youre more than welcome. Ive been enjoying seeing her progress, and it's been fun to document. I think airbrushing and a game will have to follow soon. 😀
Awesome videos guys! I’m new enough to the hobby after only starting around the end of may and I couldn’t agree with Ciara more. Hope you two are doing well, having fun and staying safe
As someone that paints every night, and only what I enjoy painting, F batch painting! There is nothing more fun sucking that repeating the same action on 15 to 20 units. Every single unit can have its personality and uniqueness, even if it's the same exact model. Also, great progress in 6 months, someone is a bit of a natural. As for playing Warcry, if you have 2 warbands and some terrain, the rules and cards, play a mock game against yourself. You'll get some things wrong at first but then the first time you play against someone else you will be more comfortable with the flow and the rules. That's what I did and now I teach people to play pretty quick.
nicely painted models clara amazing for your first ones. As for batch painting unless your're planniong on doing a horde stick with doing them how you prefer you have already shown its more productive. Don't be overawed by the playing side the rules are pretty straight forward and intuitive once you get the feel of them and almost all the games play along similar lines
I love the air brush for base coat or painting large models, but brush and layer for smaller models. surely was scared of air brushing when I first started as well.
I have cerebral palsy and paint Warhammer as well as board game minis as I have too many unpainted figures. It is a challenge keeping a steady hand but I enjoy the challenge of putting together and painting figures plus I find it theraputic. Ciara clearly has ability and talent, as well as a great teacher so keep up the good work. My biggest challenge is highlighting and doing faces. A lot of the time I use Army Painter Quickshade as it hides a lot of my painting mistakes, and watch guys like yourselves has made me attempt basing as well as zenithal highlighting with spray can primers. Thank you again for your informative and easy to understand videos.
Thats awesome, well done! 😀 Its so nice to hear you find the videos helpful! I think a zenithal and some washes is a great idea, it always gives a nice result. Out if interest (or as a suggestion), have you tried using an airbrush? You can get some nice shading and smooth paints on your models that way, could help with the process (and speed it up too). You can get top fed airbrushes with a cup lid to avoid spillage and just by using various shades or washes, you can create a lot of interest without needing a particularly steady hand. 😀
@@BroadswordWargaming I have looked into an airbrush and it's something I am considering. I am learning slowly but surely on thinning paint and highlighting. Using Zombicide zombie hordes to start with means that I don't have to fiddle with glue and parts as they are usuallly one figure, but I do have WH40K stuff to put together and paint. The key thing though is to enjoy the process, and manage your expectations. If it's not fun to do ask yourself why, and make the adjustments needed to contyinue the hobby. It's a HOBBY after all so you should be doing it for fun.
@@chuckle021975 That's exactly it. We should enjoy it. Having the channel has changed that a little, but I still love it. Keep up the work, keep experimenting.. and enjoy the process! 😀
Ciara has the makings and qualities that would probably make her a great competition painter. She seems like a really fast learner for picking up new techniques.
Surprisingly, no! Zero art background, she just happened to be good (not jealous at all). After 25 years of hobby, Im genuinely afraid to do a challenge with her 😅
Same here man. I’ve so far dragged 6 friends kicking and screaming into the hobby, as well as forcibly pushed one into returning to the hobby. I’ve managed to make literally my entire areas playerbase. Feels good man.
How about a “hobby hangout” kind of vid where you guys have a sit down and paint/talk about your armies for a while? I know a few people put a YT vid on while they paint so you could do long or short form. Either way would be interesting.
Batchpainting is fun. I painted all 20 Indomitus Necron Warriors in one sitting. Took me 10 hours (was a fun Saturday!). Took me 2 1/2 Episodes of Critical Role to get them finished.
Good work, well done! I'm a fan of dedicated batch painting time (note the 24 hour video) as it means I get stuff done. I change projects and get distracted too often, so forcing myself through helps break the back of differebt forces. Keep at it! 😀
Ciara is just a natural painter and it’s been great seeing her work over on that there instagram and she’s right a lot of great painters on that platform (also a lot of douche bags too ) who will help anyone out if asked .
I thought the sound had suddenly come out of my speakers instead of my headphones because it was weirdly tinny at the start and in certain places, was there some mistakes with the audio tracks? But yeah Ciara's paintjobs absolutely smashed it out of the park for 6 months... great stuff :) Keep up the vids, love the way you two bounce off each other!
Yeah, you should have heard it before I messed around with it 🤣 Standard annoying technical issues. 😔 Yeah, shes been doing really well, guess she can stay.
Wow really impressive. Could have been painting for 6 years.. Airbrushing is great, definitely give that a go next. I found it didn't take long to get comfortable with it.
Fair play to Ciara those models look excellant, i'm trying to get painting flesh down at the moment but mine look like their limbs dont work after painting them:). I do agree with the batch painting v indiviual model, i painted a load of space marines and it was torture by the 10th one :) so going down the single model route for a bit. Keep up the good work.
I will say, the quality of Citadel paints today is light-years better than what I started with in the 90s. They had little hexagonal bottles. I will say they didn't dry out like later paints, though.
@@BroadswordWargaming I was out of the hobby from around 2011-2018. When getting back in, I had to totally relearn the Citadel paint line since it had changed. I love Contrast paints now. I used to do a lot of my own glaze mixes with acrylic sealer, but now the contrasts and shades do it right out of the pot. GW has really upped their game in the past decade!
i am also painting my armys model by model! yeah, it is not the most effektiv way of doing it. but it makes much more fun! and if you are playing games or armies with relative few models, it does not make that much difference. scirmish games or space marine armies have very few models so you do not get that much benefits from batch-painting. and even on larger armies like astra militarum or greenskins, the model by model approach could still work out. when i am more motivated to paint, i paint more often and finish sooner. BUT when painting is a PAIN-thing, when it makes me suffer, when i do not feel happy while doing it, i loose quickly the motivation to do it. and then it takes ages to finish projekts and armies. so better finish your force model by model and see it slowly growing than not growing at all.
I totally understand Ciara, I hate batch painting. If I have to paint a squad I split it into groups of 3 or 4 and batch paint only those 3 or 4 models at a time. Maybe this can help you too :)
It took me years and a lot of money to learn that I couldn't build paint an army before they changed the rules forcing me to change and repaint my whole army again.
Yeah, she was just good from the start.. Its been so nice to see her progress too. 😀 I think the community has been really accepting and helpful, so thanks! 😀
The number 1 rule and I mean the NUMBER 1 RULE is respect. Whether that be respect for players or respect for the source material. 40k is a very unique and hardcore setting, this community has zero tolerance for people who wish to warp it into something it isn’t or insult us for being who we are
My girlfriend asked me if there were any female armies in 40k and instantly pointed out both sisters of battle and Slaanesh. I'm still yet to convince her to start
Ciara got into it by just buying whatever models she liked the look of. I think thats always a good way in 😀 Now she has stopped stealing my toys and started buying her own 😅
Played Rogue trader and 2nd edition back in the day. My new beginning was in 2016. Here's what I learned since my new beginning: 3 rules editions, 5 marine codex's, 3 price hikes one in the midst of a pandemic and the CEO of GW made more last year than the CEO of British petroleum. The rules are not anywhere near as good as they used to be unless you play tournaments, which I do not. In short, I've learned that GW games are not for me.
She claims to be doing it wrong, she was (when this was posted) 6 months in and is already painting better then most of us that much time in, not to mention finishing models (my biggest struggle 10-15 years in)
Must be inspired by that Pale Ork guy on instagram, I hear he does some awesome stuff! I've followed you since you started on your Wargaming journey on Instagram Ciara and its insane how good a painter you are considering how fresh to the hobby you are. Keep up the great work! try your hand and building and converting, would love to see what you come up with!
I'm kinda like Ciara, I get too bored when doing batch painting and I notice I get super sloppy too. Especially when batch assembling! I find lots of gaps and left over spruce on the models. But when I do it one at the time these mistakes never happen an dI stay more focused too.
For real girls have a huge natural advantage on guys when it comes to mini painting. There is one motory skill that women surpass men in. Steadiness of hand. Combine that with superior color sensitivity and any girl that picks up the brush, odds are she's got a head start.
Gonna show this vid to the kids in the school club (when it starts back) - "You've been painting since 2019, where's your progression!" Mics ok for this vid? Sound seems sketchy, or is it just me?
Yeah, my mic was not ok in this one, unfortunately. Did my best with it, but sometimes you can't do much about it. It happens 😢 Hope the kids like it! Did your models turn up? "I got my prize 6 months later" haha
@@BroadswordWargaming they did turn up thank you kindly! Pleasantly surprised that it was the on-sprue box so they kids can get a shot at designing their team and building it, and I can retire my Rogue Trader guard to the safety of their case, away from teenagers -.-
He’s amazing!!! For a first ever miniature ever painted ever ever ever, That ultra smurf is outrageously outstanding! Heck I’ve been in the hobby since the mid 1990’s and I’m still crap 💩 at painting 🖼 compared to this ! Ciara is either some kind of freaky magic mushroom 🍄 fueled daemon sorceress 🧙♀️ in disguise, or she’s just naturally talented!? Which means “I HATE YOU CIARA !!! I HATE YOU SO MUCH!!!! GRRRRRRRR ARRRRRG !!!! 😠😡🤬🤬🤬🤠🤢😒😒😒. 🥺😛🤪😂🤣I’m 🥶joking of course. I just wish I had half of that kind of hobby talent in my little finger like what Ciara has in her’s! 😭🤯😖
i love her little Pink stormcast As 90% of the time i epect a girl to go girly with it Which is Fine i got 2 Twin Tomboy sisters SO To me they are the 10%
@@BroadswordWargaming a fare play👍 I actually don't know anyone who is into miniatures, board games or war games here 😭. I buy them and paint them as a pass time. but I've never played a game, ever! sad I know🤣 maybe one day I'll find someone else who's into them💚🇮🇪 Ps: your painting is savage👍 keep it up.
