Its always nice seeing a video that references the 'pile of potential' the day after I finished mine. It makes me feel like I can justify another purchase
The space marine one should be pretty quick to paint in comparison to others because a lot of the value is the jump assault with are just assault intercessors with jump packs there is only 20 models in that box so you could probably focus it down in about 2 or 3 months
Lol, I bought that Skaven box from last year. I opened the box looked at the sprues and said “Aww yeah, I’m gonna have so many rat bois. Look at all these rats!” And then I put the sprues back in the box and haven’t opened it since. I started an Ork army instead of building my Skaven and that Ork box calls to me.
Anyone with a big "pile of potential" maybe should consider a simple color scheme. You can do very cool things with a few, quick layers of spray paints or airbrushes. Then pick out the metallics and maybe the eyes only. Gives you very easily a painted army that has potential to look good. More advanced people could just pick out a component or two with some different color like black for spacemarines or leathers for belts and straps and then call it done... but now it looks more advanced :)
"Once again, it is time to reveal the big army boxes for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. A yearly tradition, these hefty boxes are a fantastic way of kicking off a new collection or adding to your pile of potential. " - the first line on the Age of sigmar GW article.
The Ork box is PERFECT for my army, being that I only have one model in the box set that I can build differently (also it’d help get me near to a 1000 point army), after that I just need a beastboss and another set of squighog boyz
I'm trying to resist these, to be honest. My pile of shame had got to such an extent that it was really depressing me and I sold or gave away most of it just to get rid of the mental burden. I'm not completely disciplined now as I impulse bought an ork boarding patrol that I still haven't got round to but I feel better than I did with the piles of boxes in my cupboard that were taunting me whenever I saw them
The first thing that popped in my mind when I saw the boxes was when your video comes out talking about them😂 For real though: I restricted myself to only getting the space marine box if my Sons of the Phoenix-scheme is so quick that I can finish the SM-part of the Leviathan box before preorder finishes. This a.) reduces my pile and b.) shows me if I can realistically finish the next box in the near future haha
I literally just started and have the Leviathan box Tyranids and from what I've heard the Onslaught Swarm is pretty good to compliment Leviathan so I'll look into picking that up. I'm thinking if I do a second army it'll be Astra Militarum so I might pick that up as well
To be honest that new soulblight box is great to add to the previous one to make a full army of. (This is what i'm telling myself with that previous box and cursed city lying around unopened 😅
My verminous host is still eyeing me up from the cupboard where it’s currently hiding. However, that new Votann box has everything in I’m missing (well the Hearthguard and Sagitaur anyways). Thing is I know there’s some Tomb King pain to come very soon! I need to remember I can only spend the money once! And there’s quite the pile of plastic, resin and even some metal (Skaven skryre acolytes) waiting for my attention!🤔
This is a great video. I would like the Space Marine one more if I didn't already buy a box of Jump Intercessors and the new Captain. Everything else I really dont need, since it's mostly for armies I dont play. Though I think the Soulblight box would be good for you as well, Paul. It's got all of the newer models in it.
The ork one is compelling because almost all those models are insane on the table right now but thats my 4th army which im not sure ill even start in earnest.
I don't NEED them.... but they have so much potential.... now my other boxes has the same potential... but maybe just one or two boxes... i'm saving 40% after all per box.... *wallet crying*
I wanna get the Tyranid one to round out my Leviathin Nids. I also REALLY want the Seraphon one, but I still have a bunch of unpainted Stormcast so I know the lizards would sit unloved for too long.
I was like “oh well” when I’ve seen the battleforces this year. Like, to be honest, last year’s 40K battleforces were abysmally bad if you disliked the imperium/imperium related models. Here my problem is the fact that out of 20ish factions, you get 6 selected and if these aren’t your fancy, well too bad, better luck next year I guess. Same but worse for AoS, because there’s even less boxes. I still might get the undead guys because they look cool.
I still have untouched SoB box from last year laying somewhere but yeah I'm getting the Votann box, surely I'm going to build it and paint it this time
I'm telling myself i wont get the marine one... but i'm almost certainly grabbing a guard one and maybe a votann one if the budget allows. While I paint slowly, my group plays a lot of gray armies so a quick build and it's getting value for me.
I’ve picked up a terrible infection from you Paul, in college now and away from my Necrons…one thing led to another and I now have a Flesheater Courts army for Age of Sigmar I DONT EVEN KNOW THE RULES FOR IT TF?!
I have only just finished painting my court of the crimson King from last year I didn't start until 10th edition had been released but I don't need a new army for 2024
Same. Don't 'need' any of them. But the StD one, the SM one and the nids one look real real nice. And yeh i do have a problem. But as you said, it's such a good deal! 40ish percent off! (Don't mind that you still have to pay the other 60 percent)
Honestly, I have been working my butt off to dwindle my pile of shame. However, I bought a 3D printer. Then I found some really cool stl files. Now I have a TON of Tau auxiliary. It’s fine though.
Tyranids box is decent value, at least by GW pricing standards, all the minis in it sell separately for a total of $330 MSRP. Assuming they're the same price as last year at $230, that's almost a 1/3 discount. Despite this, I am still probably not going to buy it, as I have duplicates of almost everything in it, which is boosted even more by the fact my duplicates are mostly 3D printed minis, so I can always make more for a very low price. If you really want to save money on Warhammer, as long as you don't are about tournament play, there are loads of really nice stl files for 3D printing just about every army, $400 for a Elegoo Saturn S Printer and a Mercury Wash and Cure Station sounds like a lot until you realize the resin, cleaning supplies and stl files are incredibly inexpensive, so after buying supplies and stl files (which are cheaper than plastic kits and can be reused as many times as you want) you've spent as much as it takes to get a 2000 point army in GW plastic, for WAY more value and you can easily crank out 4000+ points, not to mention if you decide to make another army you only have to buy more resin and stl files, and this spreads the cost of the printing setup over more models, increasing the value. You can also just use an online service to have them printed by a shop for a modest fee or if you have a friend that has a printer. Example: GW Norn Emissary is $115, and builds 1. I bought an stl file pack for $55 that is just as nice visually, has way more options (extra heads, poses, limbs and an alternate torso design) and can be reused over and over, I spent maybe $6 in resin to print 1 Emissary and 1 Assimilator, so total it cost me $61 to make 2 of them versus GW's $115 kit that makes 1. There's the price of the printer to consider as I said, but I'm also using it to print a crap load of Hormagaunts, Zoanthropes, an assortment of other monsters, a bunch of Tau vehicles and Battlesuits, and I was thinking of building a Carcharadons Space Marine army since Tyberos is so damn cool and I like sharks, which there are also solid stl files for, so the more models I print the more that $400 price tag for the printing setup gets spread across more projects, increasing the value of my purchase. Basically if I print 100 minis, the cost of the printing setup is $4 per mini. TL;DR if you want lots of minis for a good value, just invest in a 3D printing setup or make friends with somebody that has a printer.
The only one I have interest in is votann, but still haven’t built the combat patrol I got last Christmas and the starter set. So I’m gonna hold off until till next year probably.
I was like well, MAYBE I'll just, you know.. Buy two Votann boxes and a World Eaters one. But then since the points changes I no longer have a 2000pt Votann Army so at least one box makes sense as that's literally the units I was going to get anyway, and the second box I can flog the characters and half the hearthguard and keep some really cheap vehicles. World Eaters I don't even fucking collect but Angron is absolutely sick so if I sell everything else out of it I get him for basically £20 or something. The Space Marine box can do one though, I've got assault intercessors, I've got firstborn jump packs to put on them, I've got a converted jump pack captain that absolutely shits on the official one anyway, I've got 3 outriders from the 9th ed starter set and I've got 3 ATVs from Imperium that are fucking useless now because they stopped you running them in squads in 10th and just made them a weird addon for outriders. Actually fuck the Space Marine box if I want that stuff I'll keep an eye out on Black Friday instead for discounted 9th edition starter boxes, get myself another 20 necron warriors into the bargain.
Simply purchase the limited time box sets that you want and put off buying individual releases that are going to be out for years until you’re done. That’s what I do.
I bought stocks of GW exactly for this purpose. Now I can tell myself that I get a bit of the investment back, therefore its not so bad if I buy more, right? Right?
I'm going to grab the Ossiarch Bonereapers. Yes, I still haven't painted by Death Guard box from last year, but I bought that for the models and want the Bonereapers to play. On top of that I have been aching to paint a skeleton army since I painted a skeleton warband earlier in the year. I only have one AoS army anyway, and its painted... so this doesn't count as piling up since its a different game than 40k. Right? Right!?
Fortunately, I managed to finish my box of imperial knights, and I was already putting together an ork army, the new box of orks is very tempting. But i am still not sure
For context, in the last three years I have bought four battleforce boxes 😂 Plus several other box sets, some combat patrols and the full imperium magazine series. I’ve been tempted to go through everything and catalog what’s there. But that’s a scary idea I’m not sure I want to do 😂
You always need an extra army on sprue for the next escalation league. That will 100% get you to the 2k point as you surely will prevail and so will enough players to see the whole thng to completion!
I will most definitely get to the Imperial Guard box. No it won't just sit on my shelf or in my pile of 'potential'. Why are you looking at me like that?
Remember... Support your friendly local independent retailer for cheaper deals... Gw doesn't need the full price absorbatant markup money... Indies do 😜
Watch out Paul, I'm not really sure the Space Marine one is *that* convenient (tbh far from it), the Outriders have no build/pose options and are still rather easy to find cheap online due to having been in many starter sets of previous edition, and the jump pack guys are easily convertable from regular Assault marines (plenty of those around too from previous ed's sets), just print/buy a resin jump pack for each or buy the 5-pack of the firstborn ones from GW themselves, you'll end up with veeery comparable results (for much less money). Just saying ofc, buy it if you want but I'd personally wait for a more convenient set
@@guineapigsith699 yeah, but that makes it good value only by GW store's standards (or if one gives value to the jump packs being those very specific ones of the new kit), as I said getting 15 Indomitus A.Intercessors (30-35€) and 3 Outriders (20-25€) from eBay, the ATV (30€ at worse) from eBay or retailer, 15 j.pack (36€ from GW, *much* less if bought printed) and a single character, converted or not, would still be less than the price of the box even by retailers (also on eBay GW stuff is more forgiving in price on average from UK sellers, and Paul's from there right?) And again, by all means, didn't say one shouldn't take it no matter what (the new j.packs are neat after all), just reminding that other options, even if a bit inconveniencing, are preferable money-wise, at that point one can do whatever
I mean honestly, if you're going to need the models eventually anyways, can you even afford not to buy them? It would be a waste of money to not take advantage of the savings, right? =P
None of them really look interesting enough for me to buy them personally. The only one I’d want would be the Seraphon but I already have the Slann, Kroxigor, and Saurus so it’d probably just be cheaper for me to get the Lancers and Hunters separately.
