I got a moogerfooger ring mod in 2008, used it for one recording and then put it preciously in a drawer, where it basically stayed for over a decade after learning that they'd been discontinued. I finally sold it last year, somewhat painfully, after taking out and giving it a try on my board to see if I could get any real use out of it or if I was just hoarding. Having just spent a good amount of time with all of its features relatively recently, I can say without a doubt that the Ringer Bringer is an extremely faithful recreation (right down to the non-bypassable drive). I love many of the sounds it's capable of and though I was never really able to find an application for most of them, I've continued to harbor the idea that if I ever REALLY wanted to give it another go, it wouldn't be impossible to find one for sale. If for no other reason than that, I'm glad this is on the market now. The intro track alone was a lot more creative than I was ever able to get with it haha

They are super cool, but I’ve had a few pedals the same. Just ended up being kind of a novelty but cool when you need it. Otherwise it’s something you bring out to record sometimes, but not to a gig. I love WA did this, and before Behringer! I hope they do the Delay version and some of the other ones as well. Some of those would be more practical to me. As a synth hoarder and guitar player, this would be a $220 impulse buy lol. But if I was a guitar player with no synths, Tremelo and wanted to stack this with a space echo…I think those players are in for a good time.

I think you kind of hit the nail on the head. In theory it’s a cool device, but its practicality is non existent. The modulation is overkill even at lower settings it overtakes tone and just seems clownish the more you add to the point that it just sounds horrible. The price point for moog is astronomical for 10.00 in parts.

Same experience, I had an original as well and eventually sold it. I used mine all the time though. At some point I scaled back my pedals and away my mooger fooger went.....Glad they brought this to market.

Ring mods are so esoteric in general use. It's not generally a sound I reach for, but I loved how you used it in the demo.

Honestly same. This was a fun creative stretch and I learned way more about the uses for these than I expected to. Weird to be able to now say “yeah I dig ring mod… sometimes”

Please Warm Audio remake the Moogerfooger pedals, the filter and delay ones are soooo good but insanely expensive now.

get yourself a Suhr Discovery delay (or Walrus Meraki if you want stereo) and burry that Moogerfooger delay craving forever, it's not worth the current price when you hear how fantastic these new delays sound.

@@Jeeboo007 yeah the Meraki is really a beautiful sounding Stereo delay. The price is just a bit much for me though. Idk, I might be willing to shell out $600 on a pedal if it was Chase Bliss making an Automatone version of a Stereo Delay.

Excellent video - most ring mod demos are pretty sad… many don’t take the time to understand how it works, and then further mess things up with full on dirt/fuzz. In a word - “tuning” is key. And, you presented that beautifully. Well done!👏😁 I subscribed 👍😁

I struggle with Warm, the owner, and the severe infringement of design IP and trade dress and shit they do. To be frank - I don't support it in the slightest and think the owner is kind of a snake. That said, I support you more than I dislike them and this is another banger vid, lol. Love the new angle with you in the background!

I wasn't aware of any real controversy w Warm beyond "a brand that makes rack gear that is basically affordable versions of classic circuits" which, as someone who uses software emulations and only sees the hardware world from a distance, has always felt like standard operating procedure. I could be totality off base but I've always gotten the impression that like half the rack gear companies out there all make a blue preamp circuit that ends with a 73 and a tube compressor with the exact same controls that is some manner of "___76" in name. This is at least how the rack gear world has always kind of looked to me from a distance but I am admittedly pretty far afield of it.

A snake? 🤨 Shooting such a judgement as someone so far away and out of touch from the Owner and his life and how he runs his company every day for the last 12 years seems a strange way to pass the time on this fine Tuesday. But to each their own I guess…..😅

Well done on this review. Glad you didn’t pump a bunch of distortion / fuzz through it. This is a pedal like the one it’s paying homage too that demands nuance and subtlety in order see what it adds especially in context of ambience and sound sculpturing.

I still have my Moog and it’s one of my most essential and inspiring pedals. I plan on getting one of these as a sort of backup/one I can keep at home for just messing around on while the Moog stays on my board at the studio.

I'm about 13 minutes in and I gotta say I really like this camera angle, I imagine it's a bit challenging having it facing away from you but I always enjoy seeing what people's hands are doing in pedal demos, gives me more context?

So i have a Ring Thing (electro harmonix digital ring modulator with tons of features). would there be anything this Moog Style can do that the ring thing cant? I know that might be a broad question, but is analog ring mod really a noticable difference?
@patrznaklate
@patrznaklate 3 месяца назад
With the Ring Thing you are able to do tremolo sound but not make it speed up and slow down with internal LFO, I think? As far as I could tell since I've also been considering it. To me the regular ring mod settings sound much more organic with this one.

@mattg082
@mattg082 6 месяцев назад
Yeah same imo..I used kinda cheap Digi002/003 preamps in 2003-2008. Then in 2009 got an API and Neve, started tracking bands, myself and took a loan to do it with an Apogee Rosetta AD/DA. Good thing is I did make my money back. Stopped recording people and was able to write it off as a business expense eventually. Still use that gear nearly 15 years later. It makes a difference to plug into a great preamp like that! Especially once you start stacking guitar tracks, bass and synths. That alone with some good sampled drums, you can make a great sounding mix! I use the Neural Imperial MK2, and a Tech 21 Blonde for DI through the Neve at home. Sounds great! I also have the real amps at a rehearsal space. Tone King Sky King, Ampeg VT40, JCM 800, Bassman 50 and a JC77, The DI tracks are so good, and use them to write. Then by the time I bring my gear to the live space, to record the real amp over my amp sims. The amp sim DI stays in 99% of the time! Then the real amps get panned out a bit and stacked. But that’s for me personally, and I like real mics on cabs. I doubt the average person would notice the real thing vs DI through my Neve or API. But to me it does, and effects my playing of what I may come up with or build on.

Pretty sure I was hearing some ring mod bleed into the signal in bypass in the "Drive" section. I might get on regardless. I'm disappointed they didn't upgrade the number of waveforms available like the way Moog implemented more of them on the later pedals in the Moogerfooger line.

@@markjohnstonofficial Dude, yes! That would be awesome! I haven't purchased any GGD kits yet. I've been trying to figure out what works best for me. I have Logic Pro on my iPad, but I'm not sure if the Drummer feature is something that I want to use. Any suggestions for a non-drummer? I get intimidated by drums and have been putting off trying to incorporate them for a long time.
@markjohnstonofficial
@markjohnstonofficial 6 месяцев назад
My suggestion is to watch my first video on this topic and then just get started with it. I am NOT a drummer. I dont play drums, dont own a kit, never have and have never tried to learn. I'm entirely a guitar / bass player who basically just started simple and brute forced the ability to write drums without knowing how to play them

Plenty of people feel that way and there are absolutely builders breaking new ground. But some people want a specific device they remember and dig that is for whatever reason unavailable or unattainable and this is there for that audience.

Eh 🤷🏻‍♂️ I get that, but it just feels like such wasted effort and potential to me. I have a 102, and it’s amazing, but there are plenty of things you could do to improve/augment the design while still maintaining what makes it special. Idk maybe I’m just a hater.
