Man - thanks for showing the reality of lawn care. I’m in Melbourne FL and just nuked my lawn with an application of Atrazine. Hoping for good results in a week or so.
Folks up north don't have the slightest clue how big a battle weeds are. Most just give up and are happy to have a green 'yard'. I have alot of success hitting it with Celsius and tenacity. I like the 1 2 punch by coming in with a store bought rts late season. Keep the turf guessing if it were.
I use Scott’s Bonus S every three months at the bags application rate and Prodiamine every 3 months at 0.20 oz/1000sqft. I have little to no weeds except at my property lines because my neighbors have poorly maintained lawns
Hey over in Kissimmee & I've been following you for 2 years now. It's a relief to see even you got hit with the splurge. I thought it was just my area. Thank you for sharing.
After the image has been used and you have the bare spots..do you leave it and allow the grass to send out stolen to fill the bare spots or do you use another method for the grass to fill out the spots
This is were a few plugs are a great solution, in my opinion. A bare spot in my St Aug lawn invites the weeds back to the party, big time. Allyn may have insight into how the sod farms keep out the weeds as they grow grass. Would love to know how they do it.
it would be great to stick a couple grass plugs in the barespots. In the summer I just let it grow back and fill in though because of how fast it recovers.
I hit the weeds with Image last weekend. All of the dollar weed is now yellow and dying at the 7 day mark. Didn't do much for many other weeds, though. Stunted some. It might take another round but will wait and see. I like that it does work very well on dollar weed.
What do you do next? To help the st Augustine fill in those bare spots? Anything? New to this, and I’ve got weeds everywhere. 90% of my yard is weeds. Afraid the grass is done.
Sprayed Dollar weed in my Bahai using 8 oz per gallon rate. Spot sprayed and it killed my Bahai. This was a few months ago January. Any ideas why it died?
Southwest Florida here..I have Bahia..I was looking to try this but am hesitant..I currently use Weed Free Zone with ok results. It works really slow..Give it 2 weeks if you try it....But it doesnt kill the Bahia...
My whole neighborhood is infested with that day flower stuff. With the help of Image I’ve gotten rid of a lot of but it’s starting to come back. Thanks for all your help and advice.
Thanks for the video. I’ve followed my Yard Mastery app plan for my lawn, and I’m looking forward to another season of making my soil, grass, and plants as healthy as possible. I also started using your recommended products on the house we bought for my in laws, which is directly across the street. The yard was extremely heat and drought stressed when we bought it in October 2023, to the point that I thought we would need to completely replace the grass. I threw it down and sprayed & prayed, and the grass bounced back surprisingly well. We are LCN believers!
Great video, Allyn! From the video I noticed some bare spots on your lawn after using Image. Would it be a good idea to use grass plugs, or will the grass naturally grow in those areas over time? Also, I recently laid new st aug sod in central Florida a few weeks ago, and by the first week of December, it will be a month. Should I use Stress Blend or Flagship?, or would it be better to wait until spring? Thank you
I started with Celsius at the max rate, it turned the St Aug a bit yellow and knocked the Bermuda back I the. Followed up with image. Almost all the weeds are dead but not the sedges. So one last application of sledgehammer. I’ve been adding a bit of folar firt with the weed application to give the st Aug something to bring it back. Is the firt the reason I have to do two applications to kill the weeds or is it normal to have to do two?
I didn’t see the link for the round up video. Can you send me the link please. So I’m a nutshell round up is a bit safer to spray around tree and shrubs but not too close to the actual stem I suppose? Thank you
Can you explain the math a little more for Image? It says like you says 6.2 to 8.6 FL oz per gallon. What does it mean 6.2 TO 8.6? Why is there a range and what happens if I do 6.2 or then 8.6 or even something in the middle? Other products says x oz per gallon and not a range.
there is a low rate and a high rate. It depends on the weeds you are trying to control. There are also yearly maximums. I just use the higher rate because it pretty much kills everything I face.
Is it worth doing if you don't have irrigatiion? Also, my yard is just a mess of all grasses and weeds. Purchased your products, but my lack of knowledge and understanding is showing. (South Sarasota County)
Killing weeds is important weather you have irrigation or not, that is for sure. If you want to get some good training that will help set you on the right path - check out my yardcarebootcamp.com program. It will help clear up all the confusion.
First, let me start out by saying that I love your videos. I'm still a rookie, but I learn a little each year I follow you so thanks for that. I do have a question for you. After you spray Image and it kills the weeds your left with a bald spot in the lawn. What do you do with the bald spot?
keep fertilizing the lawn and the stolons will fill the spot in within a few weeks. Or you can put a grass plug in there or drop a piece of sod. whatever is easiest for you
Is there any granular stuff that can kill weeds like this? Personally not comfortable yet to mess with liquids and prefer a granular approach if possible.
Sadly no. Granular weed killer just doesn't perform as well and that's why no one sells it by itself. You can get "weed and feed" products but their results are not good either.
The edges weed-whipped to death just skip doing it for a couple mows every now and again throughout the season and seems to have helped to stop that from happening. Also you still do the FF or have you just neglected it?
Great video. Think I may have either over applied or the weed was larger than I thought because it wiped out a large portion/spots on my fence line. Yard is riddled with sedge this year too, can’t stand it. Look forward to the video on string trimming too close as I may have a similar issue. Great video! Love the before and after as well as letting us see we aren’t alone in the struggle!
The easiest fix is 1. Use the right equipment (string included) and 2. Be conscious of how you want it to look AKA be careful and never rush your work. If it’s a little longer or bushier that’s fine. You’ll give yourself room for improvement. But once you go too low it is all downhill from there.
Would it make sense to do a spot application of pre emergent in the thicker day flower patches to give your grass a chance to fill it in before the seeds germinate again?
I don't know of a pre-emergent that is labeled for dayflower specifically but i am sure it would not hurt. What is even better is to plant a new grass plug in the hole.
I've had excellent results with Image on dollarweed. 8 ounces per gallon plus a surfactant. Turns yellow in 2-3 days. I've tried 4 ounces with poor results.
keep fertilizing the lawn and the stolons will fill the spot in within a few weeks. Or you can put a grass plug in there or drop a piece of sod. whatever is easiest for you
When blanket spraying why would you walk in the direction that you are spraying so the chemicals go directly on you. When I spray I walk backwards to avoid that
@@Thelawncarenut it looks great! I wanted to do it to mine but have been told that wheel spacers are bad for bearings. I don't know if that's true but I figured you would lol
@Thelawncarenut that could be the reason. Are you even sure you have spacers? I was only going by the look of the rear tires. Now that I'm looking at the front, it looks like you have some wider tires and a rim offset.
I have both types of spurge, and the Image really didn’t do much to either type. Question: I assume there is a screen/filter in the sprayer tip. Whenever I spray any chemical, I get a film built up on the screen/filter, partially clogging it. Do you have that issue, or do you remove the screen?
I have not experienced that but I do get buildup on the screen that is over the intake inside the bottom of the tank - I have to clean that off frequently.
