Thank you for writing a summery. I’m just starting out with resin, but it’s the crystal kind. I’ve been doing it in my garage with a respirator said to protect against low to medium level of fumes. I think that should be okay, since I am able to leave the area after I am done to let the fumes dissipate.

Can you tell me whether or not it's safe to use silica crystals to dry fresh flowers in? I wanted to do a few. Not to sell. Just to make as decorations and put in shadow boxes. I know it's dangerous to use in excess. If I use a mask and gloves, is it ok to use once in a while? Also, is it ok to do it with the window open? I imagine outside would be dangerous because wind could blow crystals around. Thoughts?

There should be a 101 class for everyone who goes to high school or whatever about being careful and to research any chemically based substance before using it. Whether it'd be super glues, bondo, cleaning supplies, acids, epoxies, plastics and so on. 3D printing emits dangerous fumes, and people have no clue. Normal beach sand contains quarts crystals that can kill you if it gets airborne and so on.. Why people do not do more reasearch I have no idea. Maybe there is no good compilation of all this info in one take.

This was the first video that came up when I typed in epoxy jewelry how to. I’m so grateful for this. I spent years in the printing industry and was around toxic substances. When I first started working the signs on the chemicals said “may be hazardous” as I continued to work the warnings changed and then there was the poison skull. I was 35. My mother had cancer. I realized I had to get out of the industry and was able to go back to school and retrain for a new career. Fifteen years later I got cancer. Had chemo, surgery and radiation. It’s a miracle I’m still alive. Nothing is more important than our health. We can’t go back and only move forward and educate and empower others. Your contribution here is beyond fantastic. Years ago, when I was in art school, I had a classmate who made little doll house environments embedded in resin. She never used respirators nor worked in a well-ventilated space. One day she suffered a severe allergic reaction to the catalyst and resin. She was hospitalized and ended up in a coma for several weeks. Years later while working in the screen-printing industry, one of my bosses used to do stencil painting with spray guns and airbrushes on trucks and other vehicles. Again, no respirator nor concern about breathing the particles and thinners. He died of kidney cancer at age 35. All of this stuff is risky if not used properly and taking protective precautions. @@gigi-nk8qs you can if you really can't afford one, but the best thing to do is do the resin outdoors or use a fan that blows the fumes away from you (outdoors is best) until you've saved up enough for a respirator because that really is the best thing for you. They don't wear protection because usually epoxy is not that dangerous and there are also brands that are non toxic at all. Thank you for posting this. I am so sorry that you went through this especially after learning how to start the resin process from professionals. I am actually about to start a rather large canvas project with epoxy resin and I came across your video. I do not have a lot of experience with resin but I have always done it with a well ventilation component in my home (Windows / doors open). I'm not going to lie, it spooked me. I started putting notes and updates and reminders before I do this project on how to prepare myself so that way I'm safe because of your video. I also sent it to other people that I know that dabble with resin projects.

My first time ever in a mail shop was in high school when a friend ask us to go with her to get her nails redone. When I stepped inside, I choked for air and asked how anyone could sit in a shop all day long with the fumes. She said “oh that’s just the acrylic” I had to wait outside. And the shop was super tiny. Most nail shops I’ve been to since then don’t follow proper PPE rules, no masks, no ventilation, just acrylic fumes and vibes.

For folks who get nails done..if you can smell them they do NOT have adequate ventilation. The health inspector only cares about nailing unlicensed immigrants, they don't care about unsafe salons. This goes for chemical hair services too. Yes a salon won't be odorless but it shouldn't be unpleasant or overpowering. Like how your hospital smells clean but not like an open bleach bottle. Even if each station has a fan..does it exhaust outside? It's supposed to. Look up, so you see a vent..no then the ventilation may not be adequate. My info is a bit out of date and I worked in an upscale salon not a discount mart. Each station or pair if back to back , should have a vent to the outside. That used to be state law where I practiced but I quickly saw most salons just turn on a bunch of fans and blow it around the room with 1 or no vents to the outside. Also if they use methyl methacrylate (mma) run away. Yeah it's cheap and bonds really well and you'll hear plenty of people swear it's fine but unless you like risking your fingers or losing your nail or sensation in your fingers just skip it. nsinails.com/resources/mma-suitable/

@@diai557 thecrystalacstore.com/ It is a non toxic epoxy alternative. You can join "crystalac" Facebook groups to hear from people that use it. It's skin safe and everything. It is recommended (as will all things) to wear a mask when you sand to not inhale all the shavings/dust. No gloves or anything required. There are also RU-vid videos. I specifically use it for tumblers but it can be used anywhere epoxy can. It is thinner and requires more coats but it dries faster too. You can do the next layers after 4 hours. There is no mixing involved, it comes in a tub that you use from as is.

I started joining groups for dice making and was amazed at the number of people that don't use proper ppe. I'd comment on posts where people weren't being safe to warn them, as some people did this as their sole business and you can develop allergy at any time. I got kicked from so many groups for it, but health is so much more important than anything. Also a horrible fact: a lot of epoxy takes up to 40 days to cure. Meaning its giving off fumes that ENTIRE TIME. So don't keep it in your house! I hope you continue to recover and I'm so glad you stood up to take a stand on this incredibly important problem in the crafting community ❤️ you're amazing!
