Talk about a crew that needs man overboard training. As an active 36 year Ocean Lifeguard I can tell you she did exhibit multiple signs of drowning and would not have lasted much longer. Capt. comes about hard at speed and drops floatation to her. Keeping her afloat is primary. Loops around again and crew tries to make contact by a throw bag, pole or by hand. Failing that, if there is a strong enough swimmer on board, deploy your swimmer, as a last resort. As time passes she would be less able to help in her own rescue and one gulp of water and that would take the remaining fight out her quickly. Shocking display of incompetence and what not to do.

Heck, I just took a basic rescue course at the local pool 45 years ago and even I could see she was almost done. I actually started to panic when she turned onto her face again and just kicked a bit with her legs, i thought that was it for her. She must have been so scared, I wanted to punch everyone on board. Seriously, I only have a 22' wake boat but whenever I take anyone new out, i find out how well they swim and how comfortable they are in the wind and waves. We go over where the jackets are, what size they need, where the extinguisher is kept and where the throw line is. I even make sure someone is capable of running the boat in case i have a coronary as i am slowing getting up there. People think i am anal but like i give a fuck, nobody is going to die from my lack of preparedness and if you are learning during the disaster then it is already too late.

@@davidgray8089 I just watched it again. She had no legs under her when pulled onto the boat and helped to be helped to mvoe around. Yet naother sign she was about done. I also noticed there looked to be a stand up paddle board or surf board on top of the inflatable boat. That would have been the quickest to deploy and keeps the rescuer out of the water. The board was yet another option that couldnhave been used but was not. She was close to going under one large wake from a passing boat would have been enought to put her under. I also beleove she was drunk.

Yeah, was thinking the same. But it is shocking how many very bad swimmers are out there. I am a rescue swimmer and trained in Germany (was member of the DLRG). And it is geting far worse. People drown so quickly. She was not doing well.

I'm Dutch and we learn to swim here, starting as a baby (literally). A good swimmer, that isn't intoxicated should be able to swim back to the boat or to the shore where there was a ladder, in minutes. This girl didn't swim at all, I doubt she has the skills. I've been in the water off of a boat while quite intoxicated and I still swam. That's a reflex. That captain should get some kind of penalty for his lack of action. On top of that, the risk of getting run over at such an outlet to the sea is huge! Nobody seemed to really care. I guess natural selection at its best.

Hmm, the boat that lost the passenger could have used the skiff to quickly go to her(that was the first thing I thought of when it happened and saw the tools at their disposal) Even if they paddled it to her. Of course, the yacht could have backed up a bit. Just glad the young woman didn't perish due to the stupidity of the passengers/crew on that boat. I would love to hear a follow up on that boat that had the heavy list. Did it just sink where they put it did they patch it until it could be drydocked and repaired?

@@SuperD1960 Sorry - I disagree, the crew were not briefed on MOB procedures, turning the boat about is quick and easy, especially at circa 5 knots. Warning other water users, horn on the boat 1 long blast, - and the close proximity - or use ones voice and shout ! And reversing is a no - no due to the proximity of the props.

What an idiot negligent Captain. A mate is holding onto a PFD and literally watching her drown. This woman was so close to drowning I am sure no one realizes how close. She knew how close to drowning she was - she couldn't let go of the fellow who pulled her out of the water but she saved herself - no thanks to anyone else on board!

You could tell she was fatigued when she went to her back, when she put her face in and just kicked I assumed she was done. Not one idiot threw on a jacket and dove in to get her one even knowing that boat was not turning around anytime soon... almost criminal negligence. Most people are not strong swimmers, you need to know that and act on it if you plan to be captain on a boat. I only have a 22' wake boat that runs in lakes but when I have new people on her, I always find out how well they swim, do they fear the water, wind or waves in any way, and show them where the jackets are kept, find their size and make sure they know where the toss line is... it's basic common sense. I don't make them wear jackets unless conditions warrant it though, which is rare because i always watch the winds and weather.

The skipper of that boat who lost a guest... was as bad as the rest of those ingrates. He should have immediately ordered folks to toss ANYTHING that floats. That's rule one in MOB. This helps everyone, including other boats, keep an eye on the victim, and obviously giving her plenty to grab.

As someone who is not very good at swimming, when a person does the back stroke like that it means they are struggling! Throw a flotation device and turn the friggin boat around! Or jump in to help...geeze. Fortunately she didn't panic.

Totally unacceptable. If nothing else put the Tender or the SUP in the water and go get her but to just sit there and expect her to swim back is completely unacceptable. She easily could of drowned. After she did make it back, based on her body language, I would of taken her ashore immediately to get her checked out. Had that happened on my boat, I would of turned around immediately and picked her up. Gross negligence and totally incompetent on the Captain’s Response. Not to mention just a total lack of common sense from everyone on that boat.

What qualifications or certifications and training do these boat drivers have? Clearly not nearly enough! Never practiced a MOB that's for sure! Calling them a skipper is insulting to the ones who know what they are doing out there!
