You are right. In estes it's really bad. its regular to see 100 zombies with cell phones surround elk, cars stop in the middle of traffic to take video, the tourists really have no respect for anything.

Park rangers don't euthanize wild animals for protecting their herds. They didn't euthanize that buffalo cow that was protecting her baby buffalo when that stupid woman tried to play with them a couple of years ago and ended up getting her pants ripped off. That is their territory.

This is what happens when humans encroach on the habitat of wild animals. The town of Estes Park has allowed condos to be built in every meadow that once was these animals winter grazing grounds. The elk come down from the high country to winter in the only places they know and have become squeezed out until now the only regular feeding grounds have become primarily the golf course. Mixing wildlife and the turkeys (aka tourists) is bound to cause a confrontation. RMNP, YSNP, GNP, and others have become the new zoos without the moats. You can't fix stupid not even after someone disrespects a wild animal's bubble and they get hurt. My brother in law has been a Park Ranger for 30 years and 2019, 20, 21 is the worst he's ever seen with people literally "loving our NP's to death! So much so that a reservation system had to be put in place to control the masses. Even residents have issues with entering RMNP. Sad, very sad.

Your inclination that I do not have answers, while your tongue makes you deaf in understanding the situation seems par for stupid.Yet, I'm sure you would sing a different tune if a occurrence happened to involve you directly. I understand that, the town Estee Park lives off tourism. Without the national park they would be forced to adapt to a gambling town or ski resort. However, I walked the boardwalks of history in Central City long before gambling was, allowed. The opera house, Ice Cream parlor that rang the bell once for chocolate, twice for vanilla, as the ice cream was stored in the mine. I've paned for gold where casinos now sit over the water. So don't think I haven't seen stupid. Now, saying that, Elk in town is a very frequent event. The golf course alone has a history of visits. Including injury and death. Now, .let's say your fishing, your catching fish, and some entire family with kids comes and sits up right next to you so close that lines get tangled. The kids ramble on each side of you trying to cast, even walking between you and your poles. Would you say that's frustrating? Rude? Are you to ask yourself what do you expect these people to do? There is no difference between that experience, or an elk and a human. Now, what's better for Estes Park, tourist's money, or the expense of officials enforcing safety between wildlife and humans? Thinking Yellowstone has strict rules in place to promote safety, where fines and possible lifetime bans are issued for disregarding the rules! Elk can easily kill a defenseless human. Yet is that elk now the spotlight of the incident since it took a humans life. Do they thin the herd just because one stupid human died for a photo op. I'll bet they do just that if a child is involved. After all, it's came to be the planet that is owned by humans and wild animals only exist as humans allow it. Thinking one single dog some tourist accidently had escaped causes mass panic among the elk and several humans are ran down is a accident w waiting to happen. Don't think that a transplant that moved to the state has seen more, or know more, of the State of Colorado. I know places others will never see, or even know they exist. I've also seen areas ruined by those that moved into the state when it comes to rivers and streams. A favorite small falls I fished for years was chain linked for access as a California man child died kayaking because he did not know the waters. Now that area has effected the stream and wildlife. This example is what happens when people invade the wild areas of Colorado. I can only see population control of elk being slaughtered, all because of a stupid human.

The animals in Yellowstone that kill the most people are mama Moose and bison. Not bears. You probably know that. I state this for folks at large. Neither animal is remotely carnivorous.

The town of EP does put out so many warnings, police patrol, volunteers patrol and yet the stupidity of people still persists. So it's not the towns fault the idiots continue to not heed the warnings, the town doesn't heard the elk they are wild and there are way more elk than there are people who live in Estes. I've lived here for 15 years and seen people get gored, I've seen people get kicked, I've seen cars get attacked and the flood of idiocracy still keeps coming. How about if we just stop letting the idiots out instead of blaming the someone else for a change.

This location is in town, not in the National Park or the National Forest. There are no rangers or game wardens. But in the National Park I've seen tourists ignore the rangers' requests to move back. People don't take them seriously. Several years ago, a tourist taking pictures in town got too close to a bull elk, which butted him into the middle of the adjacent street--a state highway. Luckily for the tourist, it was a quiet fall weekday, and there was no oncoming traffic right then. I believe the man was injured, but at least he was not hit by a car. Yes, the elk REALLY can be very dangerous.
