Simracing is difficult. Learning how to drive fast takes time, dedication and persistence. Assetto Corsa Competizione is one of the best simulations with highly sensitive aerodynamics that want to be respected. Telemetry, such as motec helps with analyzing car behavior and finding major issues in the car setup or driving style. Special sim racing hardware also helps with becoming better, but certainly is not the solution to your problems. Load cell pedals offer better feel. Stronger but most importantly more detailed force feedback of e.g. direct drive wheels offer more immersive sensations. Though I know and I've seen throughout the years, people with entry level hardware perform on top level.

Honestly, for a first public build it is better than some previous early access game I tried, I do agree though it is just masking the fact that they wanted the game out asap to make money. In terms of issues, I did not see anything major in my experience. Yes, performance could be better, online experience is not always optimal (but that is never going to be smooth 100% of the time whenever netcode and servers are involved), but overall I have been able to try everything the game has to offer. The driving though, is very good and quite surprisingly I always stayed away from rF2 because of its "old" graphic engine, it took me by surprise. At first it looks bland and muted, but when in movement and in the middle of the race I feel like it is the sim that takes me the less out of the experience due to exagerated effects/color saturation.

I think an option to have a race engineer helping / guiding you in managing the hypercars would make it easier to understand and avoid errors (in reality the driver for sure isn't doing all this stuff on his own either).

As a long time rF2 user and fanboy I have a problem I never experienced on rF2. All cars feel like they have the steering in the back, not on the front tires. Rotation seems wired, something I haven't felt on the predecessor. Other than that, happy for S397, a new chance to survive for many years to come. Thank you Nils for beeing fair!

They have structured this as 'Early Access' in order, as they say, to get feedback from their playerbase.. and even added the functionality to upvote issues so they can see how important these things are to them. For me, it will be the most telling how they act on this.. will they listen and tackle the things most asked for?.. or will they go for the low hanging fruit and not address the bigger problems because they're harder to solve? We won't wait years for a change to the UI again S397, sim racers' patience is much shorter than it used to be!

Definitely agree that there are a lot of things that aren't communicated well to the user, tooltips missing or just not providing useful information and the race previews missing necessary info. The title shows promise though, it has a foundation beneath it and hopefully, a lot of the existing rf2 quirks can be ironed out to smooth out the experience in the long term. I've enjoyed the sim quite a lot, it is a bit of fresh air to start the year before the other big arrivals in sim racing for 2024. Keep up the good work Nils, and love the SIM PRO trophy showcased in the background! 😏

@LilTiddyTwista
@LilTiddyTwista 5 месяцев назад
yes, this is the most crucial aspect imo. Those weird bugs and handling characteristics exist in rF2 as well.. some even existed in rF1 and were carried over from one game to the next. ISI and (later) Studio 397 didn't manage to fix them in all those years... so how exactly are things supposed to suddenly work in Le Mans Ultimate? Or take a look at AMS2: it took Reiza several years of work to get rid of the bad handling that was imported into the game because they decided to use the Madness engine. Nowadays the physics in AMS2 are way nicer and make sense, even if the sim as a whole is still more on the drifty, floaty side of things, compared to iRacing for example. But that result took a lot of work. Studio 397 might not even have much time available, especially if the situation of Motorsport Games is as dire as some people claim. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see an accurate, competent WEC sim on the market... but they really need to build upon the foundation of this sim, in a rather rapid pace.

I have almost 1 year in simracing and started with ACC. I bought and try LMU but braking is not working for me. I lockup the tires very often. Should I use ABS assist or what's the catch? Thanks a lot!
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer 3 месяца назад
you will need to practice. these cars have a lot of downforce, and as they get slower the grip decreases, which is why the tire can convert ever less braking force as the car becomes slower. you're just not sensitive enough to that yet. if you look on our website popometer.io you will find data for LMU driven by a pro to see and compare how it's done

39:30 sadly you missed the most important part about that energy management... The Ferrari, Peugeot and the Toyota have their electric motor at the front axle, so it plays a huge role in breaking performance. Because of this, the BB in these cars is dialed way to the back whilst the front brakes are way weaker than in other cars. You never ever want to have a fully charged battery nor turning energy regeneration down, because that would shift the BB way to the back, your braking distance will be much longer and you will spin out as soon as you're trying to trail break into a corner.

Great video as usual, thanks Nils! LMU is so much fun to drive - been at it almost every day since it came out ... and I say that as an ACC fanboy. I do have 1 question, and I've posted this in other threads, too: doesn't it bother anyone that there is no tire scrub noise whatsoever fdrom the tires except the final screech when your tires are red and it's usually too late to save it. I have gone from relying on tire screech as one of the most important pointers for gip limits (apart from FFB of course, Alpha Mini) to looking at the tire colour in the hud to see how hard I'm hitting the limit. Not ideal in race situations. Now I realise that in real life there is very little tire screech. But this is a sim. We need this as a reference because we sit in our office chairs, not inside a car! I've been sim racing for 35 years, I have never played a sim without tire scrub noise. It just feels weird! I am surpised no-one even mentions this, I found a couple of threads, one in their discord, another in their forum - nowhere else. As much fun as I'm having, it still feels weird to sit in a car without any tire noise until it's too late. The only corners where its useful are fast and long turns where you can balance on the screech ... half the time :P Am I really the only one who is bothered by this?
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer 4 месяца назад
I find the driving intuitive enough to not needing the tire. There's this point where additional steering doesnt really bring more rotation and thats usually where I try to keep it in order to not overuse the tire. The difference in rotation is pronounced enough to work with visual only. I get that on games where rotation differences are more subtle you might need extra clues. It hasn't bothered be here at least, though I agree in a sim the more you can get the better!

@@SimracingPopometer Thanks for your take Nils! I do get on quite well with the cars, got a few wins and podiums, so it's not a desaster .... maybe it's just a question of old habits dying hard :) I did just re-install RFactor though and have to say that the tire noise was a bliss ... something is just missing for me :) Surely in LMU that must still be in there, I hope they will activate it :)

Hey Nils, thanks for the video! I have a couple of questions about this game because i'm wondering if i should buy it. I'm looking for an offline sim with LMDh cars to play in VR (yeah, i know its currently not supported, but there are ways around it). I tried automobilista 2 after so many praises to it, but i was very disapointed: the narrow slip curve, the FFB even with custom settings is subpar, tho it is very well optimized and still somewhat fun to play. But it feels like i learn of lot bad habbits from this game, which hurts my ACC lap times, which is kinda my "main sim". So, how does LMU compares to AMS2 in terms of: 1) General physics? No weird behaviours like in AMS2 and feeling that something is completely off? 2) FFB? I remember trying rfactor2 demo and was very pleased with the way it felt. 3) Optimization? Cuz VR is demanding. Thanks in advance for the answer if you can find time for it!
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer 3 месяца назад
i havent played lmu offline at all, so im not sure if this will do it for you currently. 1) probably no issue, each game feels unique a bit, there is no apparent 'biggie' 2) usually also no issue, you will know what the car does undearneath you 3) you said it yourself, there's no official VR implementation, so there won't be optimization for it. all depends on the hardware you have. iracing should have the more complete offline experience by now. their AI is better and there are a few, if not all, LMD/H to choose from. if you can get along with the way cars drive in iRacing some other points though as there are quite a few things thrown into your comment: - ams2 has a wide slip curve, not a narrow one (maybe typo? all other games really have a narrower slip curve than ams2) - ffb in ams2 should be surperb, what you feel as vague perhaps is the tire itself (= slip curve), but if you have a low end wheel, you have a low end wheel I think you won't get around trying ;)

Well I am in favor of RFactor 2 over this new LMU game. I want a racing game that has allot of variety to it which is more tracks, cars, and doing different series racing. Seems like all the new games are going strictly GT racing only which is getting very boring to me - same tracks, same cars, and fewer of them If that is what 2024 brings us this year is only GT racing, fine, if you like only that, but not for me. Be interesting to see which GT games survive all this redundancy and will they de-throne IRacing that has been around since 2008. I do not do IRacing, cost too much. Looking to see what Assetto Corsa 2 has to bring to the table. Till then: Thanks for the video. Take care.

I have had RF2 for many years and it was not till i got my DD1 that i got it, all that fantastic detail in the physics was just not there with my CSL Elite. There maybe should be some sort of setting to accommodate the belt and cog driven bases so they get a simplified version. I’ve gone back to RF2 with the new WEC 2023 mod and it’s brilliant, maybe not quite as good as LMU if it ran properly, but it won’t. @SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer 5 месяцев назад
i've watched extensive onboards. input wise it seems fairly close. i still think especially the slow speed driving should offer more grip and especially traction - just a tiny bit. The rear just floats away a bit at times. the typical rf2 tire traits just shine through here still. however you can see videos with the ferrari losing traction late in 2nd gear during straight acceleration. so it takes a while until these beasts have the downforce and ultimately wont slip the tires anymore. in the sim we also tend to much more right away and explore the limits a bit more radical than a real driver. though once we learn the game better and push the lap times im sure we'll be faster not overstepping the mark. its all interesting and hard to answer

@@SimracingPopometer no, believe me, I tried for ages to get the DD2 to work (I spent weeks in json files trying lol) and S397 conceded that there was a known issue in rf2 on fanatec wheels that is not there now. So for me, and possibly other fanatec users, this game is a lot different than RF2. Sure, the engine is the same, but now the driving feel has changed a lot. So perhaps I'm seeing this in a different lense. I think the driving dynamics feel nice and if S397 continue to build upon this as a base, it could be one of the leading esports titles by the summer. It has that potential. ACC is getting old and AC2 will be like AMS2, as far as too wide a berth of classes and tracks to meaningfully compete with close BOP. It is dynamic rest of sims apart from rF2 are like robotic compared to this. Bad experience rF2 can't play mate you off you head lol, sorry no disrespect meant.

A tip for people struggling with sliding cars: turn off autoblip and autolift. This will change your life. I gained almost 2 seconds on this because the car becomes predictable.

Which is weird because shouldn't it do the opposite?

Don't try to play this game with a Potato Computer from 2018. I don't want to hear the opinions of this game from players in this situation lol

yes, but isn't that an issue with virtually any new game? Hardware outdates, people ask for better graphics. An endless cycle that I doubt anyone will ever break.

@@SimracingPopometer Agreed. Ive Seen reviews on Stream complaining about Graphics/FPS/Stuttering/Load times. Because of the popularity and the ability of IRacing(10 yr old game) to run on low tier Computers. A lot of these players are buying LMU and realizing their experience isn't good But alot of that is because they have old hardware

I run LMU with my 8years old computer and a 1080ti very smooth, of course not in ultra settings 😅 and only 3 crash in 30hours, i make 3 time the 2h24 endurance of le Mans without issues❤
