WARNING: Scar NEEDS to GARDEN in Dreamlight Valley 

That’s actually a good strategy. I usually assign the character a job I think is most suiting for them. So, on some characters, I get stuck. I’m actually thinking about making Scar a digger since he’s a lion.

Wish I had seen this before I played it myself, but I was too impatient and wanted to play the update immediately xD

Ooh, that's why i always get so many. I have only 1 charakter each role, and everyone else is for gardening, cause that's i did the most. Maybe that works with mineing? Then i'll make all the new charakters for mineing🤣

Okay... You know... I came to this video expecting a rundown of why Scar needed to be a gardener based on something like an advanced look at his quest path... BUT I WAS PRESENTED MATH!!! I love this video so much! Thank you so much for the insight! I appreciate it so much and will apply the knowledge to my gaming!!!

I have 5 diggers 😭 because I kept forgetting I had assigned it already.. and they hardly ever help We need a do-over button 🙏

I made him a forager since he's an animal... and animals hunt and forage for food. I was considering making him a fisher since no other fishermen exist on his side of the map and it was obvious most of his favorite daily gifts would involve fish (he's a cat).

I always heard the more companions you have as gardeners the more bonus you get, but never seen proof. I commend you for the time and tremendous effort you put in to this scientific experiment for the benefit of us all! Oh, during your harvests, did you only use 1 companion the whole time? Why not make 4 fields of 100 each, so that you can use 1 companion on each of the fields? Would have saved lots of time, if you didn't do that :) I think I'm done gardening though for now. I did pumpkins up until I unlocked the achievement for harvesting 4500 vegetables and I think I have around 3 million star coins saved up. That's enough for me for now.

I was planning to make Scar a digging since my other two diggers sleep at the same time always when I need clay 😭

Pumpkin puffs are good but I find the easiest recipe that gives bang for your buck is a 3 pumpkin Grilled Veggies. Doesn't require any additional investment other than coal. And the profit returns are insane!

Always nice to get new insights into this game. It was mentioned in the game that having more companions with the same role has an influence but I have always wondered wether this is true or not and if there is a significant effect. Kinda wish I could start over to see how large the effect is compared to 0 or 1 companion but I don't want to lose my progress 😅

I really appreciated this info, but it doesn't match the name of the video.

Mining has been my biggest activity. I have a plot in each biome for gardening 100 of one crop and where my house is I have all the rest of the crops needed. Of course if there is a task for the next event I’ll be doing gardening accordingly. But for now it works out really well 😊

I’m curious if your levelling up affected the results? Also if unlocking more characters allows for more harvesting?

I think focusing character roles to what you do the most is probably best, I do so much gardening, but foolishly split it evenly so I have 3 characters doing each role, but I pretty much never mine or dig for example and those chars would have been better as gardeners I reckon.

This is good to know. But is there a cap on how many of a specific buddy you can have before you stop seeing improvements in harvests?

Interesting, I basically have all of my lackies being farmers because it is the easiest to level. I have 2 fisher's and 1 of the others. So now that explains why I get so many pumpkins every round even when leveling them up to 10.

i only got 2 miners in my vally but i heard from a other youtube video that the mine buddies dosent stack like gardening does.. I didnt get more drops by having a other mining buddy. But since i got 2 i am not sure if it just takes more or no.. but acording to the other youtube video it should not.. and i kinda hate if thats the case.. i hate mining in this game. xd

I definitely have given jobs to them as I feel they would fit their personality. Mickey, Minnie, Remy and Wall-E are my gardeners. Elsa, Eric (I was gonna do fishing but I already had three and I mine the most lol) and Maui do mining. Donald, Goofy and Moana fish. Merlin, Gothel and Anna forage. Kristoff and Scrooge dig lol. But I try to remember to bring someone with me when I do these things because before I would forget and I could have been getting way more stuff! I definitely did it when digging because 200 clay??? Crazy lol

I had those pig prints seemingly stuck in my game and ended up removing them by right clicking them to remove them.

Could it be at all affected by your own character level? I have to assume you’ve been leveling up during all of this testing.

it tells you this information in the tutorial tips when first playing the game.

I swear that the "harder" characters to get do better at gathering anything. Mother Gothel gets me the most from mining, Prince Eric gets me a ton of gardening, etc. All of the first "easy" characters to get get me less of everything. Maybe that's my own brain but it really seems like it to me.

Thanks for checking that for us! Next time, would you be up to checking what counts towards your decoration limit? For example: biome specific item in non specified biome; do multiple shapes of the same tree count separately; which items dont count at all

The game tells you this. The more characters you have the bonus increases for all of them. No experimentation needed. Glad you had fun doing it though. I have 3 miners and 3 gardeners but only 1 digger. In order to increase my digging results I need more diggers so clay will be easier to come by along with future materials like marble. Keep this in mind instead of dumping everything into gardening.

Did your character level up during the experiment and could that have had an impact?

I accidentally made almost all my villagers gardeners. I get LOT of pumpkins. I get way more than most of the RU-vidrs I see. My ratio is basically 1:1 extra pumpkins. Sometimes even more like 1:1.2z

I bought this game the day it was released. The ultimate pack. And I never opened it once. I opened it tonight and had 15 minutes of updates to download, so I threw on a few beginners guides and HOOO LEEE this channel is EVERYTHING. I love gaming and I love finding content creators who are this in depth with the games. I need to understand my games like this. I live here now.

I won't what your numbers would give if you did access the bonus shiny pumpkins... from my understanding the likelihood of getting the bonus shiny plants increases based on your gardening buddy, their level, etc. So, would the number of bonus shiny veggies increase along with how many extra your buddy finds?

As an avid lover of the lions in this game. I assigned gardening to scar because I thought it might help him calm down a bit. Simba's my mining buddy and Nala is my fishing companion. That way I have space for Pumba (digging because boar) and Timon (foraging because he's the only one with proper hands)

Hard disagree! Money is cheap as frick in this game, who needs more millions $? BUT making Scar a mining pal means he’s leveled fast just from his quests, plus, more iron! Iron iron iron.

I can tell you that digging companions is an absolute waste and with the insane respawn rate of trees, having a foraging companion would only be out of general principle. You can max out gardening for profit, but I chose to spread them out between mining, gardening, and fishing. Fishing kinda becomes moot once you max out Moanna's fishing stand, tho. But since you can't change them out once selected, I'm terrified that a later update would make us regret making all of our companions gardeners. Outstanding math and research, tho!!!

I have all of the area opened and most of the characters aside from Eric and Maui but was trying to get as many side quests as I could and everyone up to level 10 which is close... I am at the quest for speaking with mother gothal but 25l dreamlight stored up and all realms, areas unlocked... and I am almost sure about upgrades

Wow, I'm tempted to test this theory because I've got 11 gardeners just because I garden a lot and it was easy to level them all up to 10. Maybe that's why I'm so rich HAH

Companions? Mickey gives me no extras when I ask him to hang out. Are we supposed to push a button to make them a gardening companion? I literally never get any extra veggies from Mickey when we hang out

I wish we could reassign character roles…. I didn’t think much about it when I first started the game so I randomly assigned roles… didn’t help I didn’t know who I assigned what. Wish I could change it now based on what their preferred activities are.

I have 1 level 10 with me while I harvest pumpkins and make more than double for my profits. each and every time. same goes for eggplants. interesting though. ill try and see if this theory makes a difference. like the video though

I stopped using a gardener because it fills the entire biome when I do my 800 plot leaving too much extra work. It's not realistic to keep stopping to auto pick them, takes too long already so I use an elastic on the A button.

This has almost convinced me, but there are still other potential factors that could be at play. For example, what if it's not about the number of gardeners but the one you're using at the time? What if the characters you unlock later in the game are what provides more yield? Thoughts?

I mean this is cool and all but what is with the other stuff. Like Jewels or Fish? And such...and isnt it Boring when most have the same ability?. Not to be mean, it a honest question.

I wonder if this works woth all the roles. Digging rewards need to be more common, especially if your quest bugs while trying to help Minnie 😡

Doesn't the game straight up tell you at some point that the bonuses increase with more companions in that role? I was pretty sure that was public knowledge, if not common knowledge.

I don't have a problem with Starcoins, I'm in the millions. But I did have problems getting iron ore and clay.

I made Donald a gardener as I figured he needed a hobby that would encourage him to chill (spoiler alert: it didn't work.)

Dang it, I was afraid of this… I was trying to spread out jobs some but in the end of the day it sounds like all I needed was one of each and then all gardeners :(.

Not to ruin anything but they say you get more of a bonus per character super nice to know the actual bonus though makes it easier to decide how many partners per activity I wanna have

Hmmm...I wonder if this applies to the other roles? Getting iron ore faster sure would be nice. I've mainly assigned characters to roles I think what matches closest to their personalities or what they've done in their movies. I guess digging would work for Scar, but I do gardening the most and already have 3 gardeners

I'm almost never gardening, I hate it. It's so boring for me, I prefer mining and cooking for the star coins.

i just made one of each then all gardeners because its the fastest way to lv them up to get quest done and friendship maxed just hope at some point we can change roles

This is great news!! When I first started the game, I decided to place all of the Mickey and friends in separate roles and from there every other character has been a gardening companion! I'm curious to run this test myself and see how many additional crops my harvest yields compared to yours. With all 17 characters unlocked and at level 10, I have 13 gardeners at this point! I guess the downside of these results is that mining ore takes forever!! 😂

LOL, It might explain why I’ve always have such a good harvest. I didn’t realize you got to pick a “bonus”. My first 5 characters were farming by accident😂

Surprised you can even play the game for more than 5 minutes without it crashing! Cannot wait for the update to fix the issue

If I do recall the game does tell you this although rather vaguely. Its good to finally have solid proof.

He is a gardener for me because I only had Minnie as gardener and she was always asleep when I had time to play. 😂

Oh darn I already have him as a miner. Because I had only 1 already so yeah..

I have only one character assigned for each of the other skills besides farming just so I have somebody there, but everyone else is a farmer lol, it levels up the quickest and I can get to level 10 super quickly

I have 7 hangout bonuses (gardening). Yields average 211.

I don’t have a digger yet because I didn’t think there was any point to them, so scar will be my digger as it makes the most sense for a lion. I have 6 gardeners, 6 miners, 2 foragers and goofy as my only fisherman.

First I have to say, I love your experiments. Thank you for the science. 😊 This was so fascinating and helpful as I am an equality job assigner except for digging. Think Scar will be my digger because trying to get clay and pebbles is rough. But this is good to know for the future, if, they don’t change it.

This is really interesting.. I only have 2 gardeners.. merlin and scar and when i pick up specials i average 170/180 crops from 100... i need to make sure i have more gardenners and miners.

Since I plant 500 pumpkins each time, making sure 1000+ pumpkins into pumpkin puffs would be too tedious.

Hey, just so you know, you can hold the dig button to dig in a line just like planting or harvesting! AMAZING analysis!!!!!!

I will never be convinced to do pumpkin puffs. You get way more money doing grilled veggie platters with 3 pumpkins. Yeah you have to manually add each ingredient as you can’t auto fill for it but to me it’s worth it

I’m willing to bet the increase is based on your characters level and has nothing to do with the number of gardeners you have. It’s a good experiment but you should add a new buddy with a different job and see if your harvest still goes up.

I've only got one field with one hundred plots. A pumpkin harvest usually nets me 250 pumpkins which I use to make three pumpkin veggie platers (It makes more money than the pumpkin puffs). Just by doing that, I'm well beyond four million star coins. Also, a tip I got from another video, trap your companion in a cage or fence while you harvest to keep them out of your way. When you're done, release them and they will give out their bonus items all at once.

In a kind of similar but tangential way I found that Anna is one of the best miners. I only had Scrooge and Maui and they were pretty sporadic on extra gems or stones at level ten but Anna pretty frequently gave me the extras at level 10. But I had no idea the actual number of friends assigned to a specific chore had an impact. Most interesting

So Scar should be a miner..... because that covers things you can't buy for an increase.

Or, hear me out, is the harvest different depending on who you use? Genuine question.
