Thanks for your honesty! Off grid 20+ years and started making YT videos in 2007 before google even owned YT and I have warned creators over and over not to get involved with any sponsorships or affiliate programs that put demands on your channel and control your content. I have no paid sponsors and no contracts with any company or brand and if I do a review of a product it is because I think the product would be useful to my followers and I actually use the products. Once you sign a contract you are in their pocket and they can destroy your channel or take it down. A lot of newer channels struggle to make income on YT so they get caught up in these contracts not realizing those companies are using you and if you don't comply they will destroy you legally and hold copyright claims over your content. They also will dictate your content and it will appear fake and your followers will eventually notice and leave your channel because you have lost trust. There are so many of these controlled sponsored off grid channels out there now all following the same script that it is destroying the entire off grid YT segment and they are paying to be promoted on YT. I may not get the high views and subscribers of the paid sponsored channels but I also have full control of my channel and my integrity is intact and my followers know that I am my own man and that is more important!

Definitely a great idea. It lets you get more work done and then on the other channel we can find out what the thought process actually was.

There are so many people that don't want to get an actual job that might require effort on there part. So the come up with ways to take advantage of others. Glad you got it straightened out. I enjoy your channel Keep up the good work. .

It is great you showed this - we have been approached by a couple of MCN companies and they promise the world. So glad I stayed away and your experience and proven that doubt. RU-vid should protect smaller channels from this by sending out "do you really want to do this" requests to you when you request the sign over to the MCN. Keep it up both of you 👍🏻

I was wondering what the true impetus was for the new channel... and I figured it was a legal/contract thing...but I am so glad you got through it, learned from it, and are moving on. I'm sorry you had to deal with such lousy representatives of humankind. It just isn't right. My Dad was a lawyer, and he would say that going after the company would be "sending good money after bad"... but I've learned that it might be worth it to ALSO name those on the board... the corporate officers... and any man or woman who was personally involved in the fraud and then go after them personally... Anyway, I'm glad you filled us in... I'm subscribed to the new channel and I'll try to keep up with both of them. I enjoy your content and really like the journey you have set yourselves on.

Good video! Great info! I think you should probably just go back to just one channel , either Laid Back Livings or The Lordens. Trying to do two is really going to put a stress on you. SO GLAD you put this warning out…!! Sorry this happened to y’all. Sadly this is the way the world sometimes works and seems more like the standard now a days. Rather than businesses being reputable and using “fair business practices”, they seem to do ANYTHING that will allow them to always grow quarterly profits rather than the general idea that as long as you can make a decent profit and stay in the black and grow gradually over time. They don’t care who they stomp on and cheat in the process!

SS# compromised, Low interest CC, save on electric bill, get ATT over your current cable, fix your compromised computer, make your WEBSITE better, now help improve your YT channel, on and on and on. Really appreciate your openness and honesty. Too bad this happened, that company should be investigated, and I sure hope this lesson got through to you both. Meanwhile I will disagree on having 2 channels - while you may think they are different, from a viewers perspective they are not sufficiently distinct, there is just too much overlap. Using your fence building example - 1 video is plenty so it all boils down to editing choices with no need for 2 videos on 2 channels. This interlude begs for a reexamination of the content, its presentation, and POV.

So glad you got LBL back under your control. Don't kick yourself over this, we've made some very expensive mistakes along the way too. It happens. Learn and grow from it, but you're already doing that. Cheers, and we'll see ya around town somewhere.

Sorry for all the trouble you been through. I had the same done to me with my insurance I got a letter from another company saying that i were going to drop if I didn't call the people that were going to drop me I called and they didn't know anything about it.

You had such a great year with the TV show and then signing over 100% of the channel revenue? I am glad it only cost you $3000. I am subscribed to both channels. I think the channel of all your camping and fishing videos would be great to separate from the homestead video.

Mike and Liz, I believe that you should make one of these channels your own...and stay with it. You have already built Laid Back Living. Everything you do is of interest to your viewers. It is difficult, as a viewer, to watch similar content twice. That is just my opinion, for what it is worth. Btw, "Laid Back" is the way you carry yourselves...whether you are planting a garden or trying to hold back a mountain!

It seems like what this company did was not only shady, but illegal. I would think BBTV needs to be investigated by someone.

Country road cure went through something similar, they didn't have any control of anything with their channel. They were scammed bad. I don't know what is wrong with people who do things like this. How can anyone feel good about stealing, horrible.

People think they are to smart to be swindled but it can happen to anyone. It happened to me about ten years ago and I am untrusting of people to this day. So it does scar you. Look at it as a lesson and any time money is involved triple check people. Note: as you get older people try harder to swindle you.

you have learned that you do not sign any contract till you can have your attorney look atit. It wasnt YT but I learned this in the business I started years ago

I would have found it fishy of them to ask for 100% of your revenue to turn around and give you 90% back. Why didn't the MCN just ask for 10% as a fee?

Hey Mike and Liz that kinda sounds bad on what happened to you guys and you name brand And I'm Nick and your channel just caught my eye one day from when you guys were pouring the concrete slab and making the concrete block walls 8ft and the loft above the garage..... I just think that there are a little bit of shady business people out there just double check your contacts or have lawyers read over it

Okay. Stuff happens. Please inform the Attorney General from the County and the State of Idaho asap. They will get your money back for you. It will take awhile but they’ll be all over these guys and make life hell for them, while recovering your money. Also - find a business person to mentor you when these decisions come around. Any reputable senior business person will be happy to give you advice for free.

Not sure if this would work but maybe reupload all the videos in question to your new channel and mark them as archived. Then delete the old channel altogether. You could then monetize them again so you will get any money from future profits. Glad you stuck it to those guys. Lots of scammers on the web unfortunately.
