Epoxy shrinks a bit as it cures. A lot of times it is that the epoxy was flush with one side and had depth on the other side and the side with depth shrank causing the curve. If you have the same depth on both sides it will shrink evenly and not cause a curve.

v interesting. what's a good way to resolve this for uneven pouring? layers? thank you for this point 🌟
@Brian-uy2tj
@Brian-uy2tj Год назад
@@SJ-dl6uc For myself, I would build the mold and set it up with holes in the sides so that the slab can be pinned with wooden dowels from the sides. carefully set it up so that you can pin it so that it has an exact gap underneath the slab and then pour so that you have the same amount above and below the slab. The problem of uneven shrinking and bowing usually comes from a thin coating on one side and a thick layer on the other. The thick coating has more torque to pull as it shrinks and so it overwhelms the other side and shrinks more causing the bowing.

First time I did a deep pour of epoxy I used the wrong epoxy during a hot summer day and used a torch to pop the bubbles. Needless to say it smoked and seemed like it would catch on fire.

What in the epoxy activator?
@gfde7421
@gfde7421 Год назад
yes, because many people should be more aware of this issue, including the fact that a chemical reaction produces heat. i even saw ppl who ruined everything, becuse the epoxy reaction were too hot.

Just wanted to add for people who are curious, but not every chemical reaction produces heat, some do the opposite. Endothermic reactions vs exothermic

130 degrees is sensitive?? Anything you store in direct sunlight will dry out, fade, warp. But your AC should prevent it from getting to 130F.
@mtraven23

@@nachojones1 thats heat, not UV. if its not UV stable, doesn't matter how cool it is, UV will destroy it. and no, not everything warps & fades ...my granite counter tops have not faded or warped in 30 years.

Damn, what happens to epoxy tables if you store them in a shed or a garage? Couples with living in a hot area like the south east of the US? Can they be stores vertically in said conditions? Or are epoxy tables still so new that no one knows the quirks of owning one for a long time with normal life wear and tear?
