I think that is the progress bar in terms of how far you have progressed on the map. I remember I binged this game for a long time .. think I will get back into it again was so much fun.
Do you recall how many islands there are, or if there is some kind of mode or cheest where you can continue your progress if you use up all your lives? Thanks for any info. :)
