@CommissarChaotic
@CommissarChaotic 4 месяца назад
@@FlooferLand Yeah.. I feel that a lot of RU-vidrs are "retiring" these days because of their algorithm too. It wants to run them like machines because RU-vid wants to compete with TikTok but TikTok is very impersonal just more on the content flow unlike RU-vid is or was I guess so now theyre just ruining their roots and stuff. Shorts was already bad because RU-vidrs have to compete with people who can just make a viral short and just take all the traffic there where the Shorts area is similar to TikTok.

Well, graphic adapters from yesteryear can only do so much, so watching today's YT at high-ish resolution on a 20-year-old, or slightly newer computer is simply not going to happen. You can't do miracles. On the other hand, if what matters is computing on the cheap and not retro computing, you can always get your typical Hp/Lenovo office desktop from a decade ago and play anything at 1080p even on integrated graphics for what, 40 bucks maybe? Computers no longer go obsolete as quick as they used to at the turn of the millennium, which is fantastic for your wallet.
@theclearsounds3911
@theclearsounds3911 5 месяцев назад
@@BilisNegra My daily driver is a Dell Latitude E6500 running Window XP, and it doesn't have any problem at all with RU-vid videos running at 720p using Mypal browser. Sometimes struggles with 1080p you YT. Of course, it no longer uses Flash, and maybe that's what would have slowed it down in the early 2000's, I'm not sure. A cheaper computer of the same day, yeah, I can see it not being able to keep up.

@@theclearsounds3911I've been fiddling with an old IBM Thinkpad from the Win2K era,running PuppyLinux. The RU-vid pages load perfectly fine, but I'm still trying to find GPU drivers for the thing, so it's trying desperately to CPU-render videos. It's...choppy, as you can imagine.
@youdonegoofed
@youdonegoofed 5 месяцев назад
@@theclearsounds3911 why would you do this to yourself?
@theclearsounds3911
@theclearsounds3911 5 месяцев назад
@@youdonegoofed I'm waiting for someone to come out with a better OS than Windows XP, and, so far, nothing. Each Windows version gets more difficult to use than the last as they take away useful features and add spyware. MacOS is pretty consistently inferior and never improves. Linux was terrible when XP came out, and has gotten very slowly better, but still not as good today as XP. Computer CPU's and GPU's may be getting faster, but those terrible chiclet keyboards and trackpads with no buttons are far inferior to what we had 20 years ago. I'm doing this to myself because I enjoy using a convenient easy to use reliable OS on a computer with a far better human interface than is available today.

I didn't use the internet until we got 10/10Mbps fiber in 2006 so I've never really used slow connections*, but we did have the 10Mbps for a long time so I did get to download GTA V PC version on it. If I remember correctly it took like 17 hours to download it *Except sometimes outside our home in 2010-2011 when I shared 2G/3G internet from a Nokia 6630 to my netbook. I don't remember what speeds it got but the Nokia 6630 was one of the first 3G phones so it could only do a theoretical maximum of 384Kbps. It only had support for UMTS 2100MHz which was only available in more populated areas so often it didn't even have a 3G connection. Still better than a 56k modem though

@@Pasi123 lucky you, 06 or 07 was when I upgraded to a _blazing_ 1Mbps down (and probably 100k up) ADSL line, I put up with dial-up until then 😅 The good news was I never needed to flush the cache on the Pentium 4 machine, so I had hundreds of Flash games cached to play while other stuff loaded. The oldest I have now: A very-late socket 775 motherboard with 45 nm Core 2s and socket 1366 with Core i7 Extreme 965. Other than an early-2010s Gigabyte socket AM3 system, IIRC, also has an Athlon X2, IIRC. For screens that are the oldest that I have now: A 40-inch plasma TV and a 42-inch Panasonic Viera LCD.

Love the videos as always, just had a quick question: at the end of the video you mention that only few tech youtubers have their videos on bot at 2:28, we see a video veom a Vtuber that was uploaded 2 days ago; I was just wondering if the tool is somewhat connected to modern day youtube or something Either way, great video :D

Love vintage, but one thing I DONT miss is dial-up (and call me crazy CRTs, though I do still find them interesting)..... lol

I had at least one CRT monitor that was good to go and ended up leaving it behind in 2016. I regretted leaving it behind!
