Even though Elon Musk tweeted it first, here's the run of the WARR Hyperloop Team on the second SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition. We maxed out at 324 km/h (202 mph) and are incredibly excited to have won the title of fastest pod!

Not one newsarticle mentioned the length of the tube. The test tube is just 1,25km long. Accelerating from 0 - 324km/h and stopping in that distance is huge. But energy consumption and weight of the vehicle would also be nice to know.

The end target speed of Hyperloop is around 1000+ km/h, this is a step on the way to that (a few months ago the fastest speeds were under 150 km/h). And lack of air resistance in the tube means relatively less energy required to propel the pod compared to a high speed train
@dmarsub
@dmarsub 7 лет назад
PINEXXful Thebother teams in the competitipn didn't even get half of that speed. (For example MIT) Also it is a student team that built it in their free time. The track and the pot itself poses new and unique engineering challenges.

You only feel the inertia when you accelerate. It's like when a plane takes off, you feel it for a bit but then once you're in the air you feel nothing. Galilean relativity, once you're travelling at the same velocity as the pod it won't feel like anything.
@eugenes9751

I wasn't talking about the inertia, I was talking about the rough ride.
@alex29443
@alex29443 7 лет назад
Early stages, you're being pretty cynical. It's like you're looking at a firework and saying that riding a rocket to the moon is impossible. All just a matter of good engineering.
@eugenes9751
@eugenes9751 7 лет назад
+Alex, sorry but you can't just say something's in early stages, therefore it'll actually work in the future. Why don't we have flying cars yet, is it because of cynical people saying that they won't work, or physics? We've had vacuum tunnel trains since the 1930s, there's nothing about anything they're doing that's new or revolutionary. The reason we gave up on the idea is because it's just plain dumb to do it, you don't understand the energies required to pull an atmosphere down to 0.001% atmosphere, it's absolutely insane. Nobody's saying that the technology's impossible, just that it's absolutely impractical and will never be able to compete in the real world. We'll have self flying transports before this becomes practical, and the main reason is simply the amount of energy required to produce the vacuum and maintain it is greater than the advantage than the system offers, and no amount of engineering can solve it because it's a physics limitation, not an intelligence limitation. This is forgetting the fact that the entire tube will contract\expand like crazy, and a breach in the wall will almost certainly cause a catastrophic cascading failure that'll destroy the entire tube in minutes. Most people don't fully realize the power of a vacuum: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0N17tEW_WEU.html Imagine being in that tube.

@tonijukic1541
@tonijukic1541 7 лет назад
Vol use We were clamped by a spring system to the rail with about 500N in lateral and vertical direction at both ends. So it is not a stiff system but allows small deflections to compensate shocks due to the small gaps and steps between the rail sections.

@Der_Dirk
@Der_Dirk 7 лет назад
No :P Even my old, boring car make 250km/h. 320km/h is even possible with sportcars, but you need much more efford. With a huge effort they can make maybe 600 km/h in this technology, but there will be a lot of expensive wearing. Nobody doubted the possibility of a "train" driving 320 km/h. Starting from 600 it will get tricky. To tricky for a commercial sollution.
