If Warrant is EVER remembered for JUST ONE SONG....this will be the song.... It is EASILY the best song they EVER recorded... I can't put into words how much I love this song....
Jani said the same thing, he was so pissed about Cherry Pie but damn he was just an excellent writer no matter what! Too bad he didn't see that and fight his demon more.
I wish he had lived long enough to see the fan reaction to this song (it's obviously a fan favorite).... much greater than the reaction to "Cherry Pie", proving that Warrant (and Jani) were much more than just "the Cherry Pie guys....." @@kimberlyhood4095
The story behind that song is really sad, it has a good riff but shouldn’t be recognized as warrant uncle toms cabin and down boys and songs like that are what I consider warrant
Still get chills when it transitions from acoustic to electric with the hardness. Brings on the involuntary head bang every time. Love it, love it, love it.

cm_xxvi, It wasn’t supposed to be on the album. The album was finished, and named after this song. The record label told Jani they wanted a catchy hit, so he wrote this in 15 minutes (or so). The label screwed him, promoted this song as the first single, and renamed the album, without informing the band.
This is Warrant. I don't think there's anything wrong with Cherry Pie. It's a good fun song, but the true Warrant spirit is Uncle Tom's Cabin. Long live Jani Lane. You had one of the best voices in rock ever.
Cherry Pie would have made a good b-side song but yeah it's been overplayed to hell and back by every classic rock station. i hate it now too. it's just like a drunk's bar karaoke song, it's not really all that fun to rock out to.
This song was too heavy for radio play, it needed more work in the studio but it was close it just needed the heavy riffs dialed down, they are generic and too loud for no reason, a good lead guitarist would have made the whole song blend much better. The intro and chorus are wasted in between sloppy guitar work. The first time I listened to this I had high hopes until the lead guitar blasted out of no where with a generic overly loud guitar riff that does not fit the song and ruined the transition. It recovers in the chorus but that cannot redeem the song. Unfortunately the record label was right about this.

Class of 73 (before Warrant rolled). Love this video and wanted to learn the song now that I have some time and Machine Gun. Saw Warrant at the “US Festival” in San Bernardino in 1983. I will rock til I drop.
Jani was so underrated as a singer it's ridiculous. This song kicks ass. Lyrics by Jani Lane. This dude took the title of a beloved classic novel & used it for a kick ass rock song.
My mom met Jani at Hammerjacks in Baltimore, MD. She was sitting at a table with her friends when he walked by and accidentally spilled his drink on her. He felt so horrible and kept apologizing over and over. My nom smiled and assured him that it was okay. He still felt so bad that he ordered her and her friends a bunch of drinks on the house. He treated my mom with such kindness and sincerity. She said he was a true gentleman. This was back in the early 90s. She said he was the kindest, most compassionate, loving man with a great heart ♥️
Same here! Every time I hear this song it's like a direct reference to the "Jennings 8" killings. Everyone who knew anything was either wrongfully discredited, killed, or too high up the chain to be messed with.
I was born and raised in Jennings. I was living there when all that went on. It was a person who was in on the investigation who committed the murders in my opinion. But nothing will ever be proven
@@ColtraneTaylor what a racist comment. Obviously you didn't watch this video, the three people killed were WHITE. Blacks aren't the only ones who are victims, they just whine the loudest and cry "race" the most.
This is the best song from Warrant this is the one they should be remembered for I still get the chills when I hear the intro RIP Janie you are gone much too soon love you and this song it rocks
+Xavier Vega Without question, in my opinion. Its too bad Warrant caved to the record company and became a ballad producing, One direction=esque hair band. Love this tune. RIP Mr Lane
I have to say that, in my humble opinion, that this song, musically in the arrangement and lyrically, is THE best rock song ever! I've been a metal fan for over 40yrs, and I still listen to the new stuff, mostly coming from Europe these days, and there is a lot of great songs out there but NOTHING tops this song for me.
Always enjoyed that acoustic opening of this song. To me, it showed some great versatility in their song writing. Tried to learn it on guitar as a teenager, but it was a bit more difficult than my amateur skills were able to do. I recently saw a video from a guy I went to high school with, taken the year we graduated, in 1992. It was recorded that summer, and was him playing the Hendrix tune Villanova Junction, featured on the Woodstock album. Seeing that reminded me of how much I would’ve had to put in if I wanted to play this acoustic open. Mf’er was playing Hendrix, making it look easy!
No, not just another glam metal band. Underneath it all, was some of the greatest talent you will see. Absolutely one of my favorite albums of the early 90’s. I’m 53 now, and this still gives me goose bumps and makes the hair on my arms stand up.
Well said, sir!! I'm 10yr younger than you, a child of the 80s with 2 older bros same age as you. I was blessed they exposed me to rock music and Warrant was one of my favorites. I'll always remember them playing on Roller Derby and man I popped for "Heaven' lol. But Uncle Tom's Cabin was what sold me! True definition of a 'banger'!!
This song was released when I was a young buck of 22, this song is timeless for me. Loved being a teenager throughout the 80's and young man in that era. God only knows how many times I pissed off the neighbors with this HOUSE SHAKER. Song delivers the goosebumps every time, this song is a masterpiece. 55 now where does the time go 😮😮. Peace..........
@@38Achilles I agree, the best guitar riffs were in the 70s, you just can't beat Iommi, Blackmore, and page, when it comes to guitar riffing. A lot of the catchiness coming from this song is not from the guitar riffs, but from the vocal harmonies.
Yea the music industry is a bunch of bullshit they forced jani to come up with a song similar to aerosmiths " love in an elevator" to be the hit single instead of this song. Then they have the audacity to say grunge music cancelled so called hair metal bands. Which is unbelievably ridiculous cuz that's like saying all horror, action, comedy etc. Will be cancelled cuz only drama movies can take the stage now!! Seriously WTF let the consumer decide what kind of music they want why the fk couldn't hair metal band n grunge music co exist?? There's no logical explanation besides record companies greedy mfn desires
@@frankfrega1302 the basic explanation is that it was a flicker in time, and within a year or two became outdated. That happens when you form your music around a gimmick. It wont last, it becomes representative of a moment in time, just like grunge only had a moment in the light. And yeah, the industry sucks, but change is the only constant. If you want something like music to last make it more universal or expect time to move past you. Just the way she goes boys.
One of Warrants best songs so underrated they should have made a movie out of the song. Jannie has a powerful beautiful voice great song writer. I love Jannie Lane RIP 😎🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🌹🌹❤️❤️🏋️🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🎸🎸🌹
I'm 19 and I wish I grew up when all these rock bands where around I grew up listening to Alice Cooper, Kiss, Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Warrant and all the other fantastic 80's rock bands. Long live rock and roll!
+Dan's Film Files I'm 46 and I wish there were more young people like you so this music could come back again and get rid of the crap they call music nowadays. Rock on!!!
Warrant's crowning achievement. Every lyric paints a picture. The instrumental touches at beginning/end were vital to the overall mood. One of the great story-songs of metal era
A lot of 80's bands had excellent players and wrote great songs...all sadly overshadowed by the "glam" aspect of the genre. White Lion, Whitesnake, David Lee Roth's solo band, Damn Yankees and tons more I'm forgetting at the moment all had stellar musicians.
this song showcased his musical talent the best. good strong vocals, great stage presence, tight band, great guitar and songwriting. dude was so underrated. RIP Jani Lane 🌹
Jani Lane.. one of the most underrated musician's on the planet. Awesome vocalist, lyricist and performer. Jani was never given his due but will remain one of the greats. I tip my hat and raise my glass in honor sir. You helped change music and pave the way for what we have today
Gotta give credit where it's due but for their first two albums, the producer brought in a session musician to play all the guitar solos plus C.C. Deville played the solo on Cherry Pie. Heck, the opening acoustic solo on this track was performed by Jani's brother.
and female musicians wore skirts and/ or pants, and not wearing pants was not a substitute for talent! I miss songs with meaning and songs that told stories too =/. Also, RIP Jani Lane.
MisledDan Which is ironic, because C.C. Deville was something of a joke among guitarists at the time. But I remember the stories. Warrant were basically regarded as the Milli Vanilli/New Kids on the Block of Hard Rock back in the day. But great songs, whichever way you look at it.
This album was originally slated to be named "Uncle Tom's Cabin." All the tracks were laid down and ready to go, but the record company didn't think the title track had enough hook, so they told Jani Lane to come up with an anthem type song. Word has it that he wrote it that night, laid down the track, and always hated it.
It's indeed useless to name 80's band with strong guitar presence because generally it was guitar dedicated decade. Million pages won't be enough to name all the great guitarplayers and the great guitar oriented bands that reigned through this epoch. Quite different than todays music.
Fun Fact:the guitarists of Warrant, didn't record any of the guitars,on the first 2 albums. All the guitars, you hear here and on the other songs, were recorded in the studio,by Mike Slamer, veteran guitarist,songwriter,producer/sound engineer.Check out some of his own projects, like Streets, Steelheart Lane,Seventh Key or the Slamer/Brock album.
Cherry Pie is fun , sleazy and put these guys on the map with their tongue in cheek anthem, Blind faith , Heaven , sometimes she cries , bitter pill all great tunes in their own right . This is my absolute favorite. It's a master piece and for some reason swept under the carpet for what ever reason. I think this song is their best. Miss Jani , gone not forgotten .
I'm 66 here in '21. Feeling a little bit flat this morning. My sure-fire method to yank myself out of the funk...a little Uncle Tom's Cabin. No kids, if rock is in your soul, you won't lose it in later years. Not even.
warrant, skid row, guns n roses, slaughter, mr big, metallica, arrowsmith, bon jovi, tesla, kiss, and many more. i miss the 80s no decade will be as awesome as the 80s.
Metal has evolved since then. We've had bands like Dream Theater (who started out in the 80s, but have only gotten better since), Testament, Killswitch Engage, Death, Beyond Creation, Opeth, Jinjer, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, etc, since then who have blown the gates of creativity wide open.
Hey the 1950s were real to me, 11-11-1951. And the music for the 60s and 70s had top artist, that put their talent put for all to hear. Go on use RU-vid and listen to both decades, sure there are stinkers, but enough to give your ears a satisfying climax.
killswitchlee123 nah, modern metal isn’t as good in my opinion. I mostly listen to classic rock from the 60s and 70s but I also love 80s headbanging like warrant, quiet riot, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Guns N’ Roses, etc
I turned 20 in the early 80’s. So many good rock bands in that decade. But this guy? He was my go to, and still is in 2020. His talent as a musician, lyricist and singer could not be matched, then or since. Rest In Peace you insanely talented man. Thank you for giving us everything you had inside you.
The punctuation mark at the end of the great metal of the 80's. Those years were filled with great songs, musicianship, production, and most important, fun.
As a thrash metal dude, glam metal wasn't my thing back in the day. But whenever this song came up on MTV I got the chills, it was a brilliant heavy and emotional song that made me headbang.
Love this band forever. Jani really had a killer voice. Uncle Tom's cabin is the song that I love. To play acoustic guitar then to turn to slamming? Not really heard of back then, except for Poison. They were stellar in concert!!! When Jani passed away, dark time for us. I get chills when I hear them, then the tears. Love you Jani.💔😪
+michael tabor The average American would have to be able to think and care about stuff in order for that to happen, and the powers that be know it's just easier to cram cherry pie down their throats. They'll swallow it with pleasure and then thank them for it.
+scott gorham In this particular case though, the record label does deserve some of the blame for "Cherry Pie." This album was recorded and mixed, and was called "Uncle Tom's Cabin." It just had to be pressed and distributed. The record label came to Jani and said that the album needed a commercial hook song, which he protested, but the label said the album couldn't be released without it. He went home that night and wrote "Cherry Pie" and the name of the album was changed. He has always regretted writing the song and hates that it is the song that it is associated with Warrant. On the other hand you are correct about music buyers not demanding better quality music. If buyers weren't sucked in by gimmicky songs then the labels wouldn't feel the need to push them. It is a vicious circle, and that ends up pushing bands to flee to independent labels (which often don't have the big money needed for promotion) or for bands to start their own labels (which has been successful for some and not for others). I worked for an independent label distributor and we sold many artists who were then picked up by major labels. And while their sales got bigger, and they got much richer, the quality of the music often suffered and they lost their ability to have creative control. Some artists deal with it, and others don't.
***** There's an interview on here with Jani Lane where he explains the story behind "Cherry Pie" and how the record label pressured him into writing it and filming the video and then wouldn't release the album unless it was the lead single and the name of the album. It's hard to fight with the record company when under contract, they pull no punches when they don't get what they want. It's pulled from a 4 part documentary called "The History of Heavy Metal." Each part is about 40 minutes long, so it's probably easier to just do a search for "Jani Lane interview" and find it that way.
+Movie Girl its especially shitty considering this was supposed to be the title track and the lead single of the album. but i can see where the record label is coming from, though.
I’m quite young I’m 13 yr old boy I absolutely love rock this is my favorite song by warrant it’s just such a great song all around my dad bright me into the rock world I typically listen to rock more than rap
@nickstokar7978 I kno you posted this a yr ago, but I just saw it. Good for you!😊You may only be 14 but you've got great taste in music🎶👍 Merry Christmas🎄& Hav a rockin'🎸 New Year! From Detroit, Michigan, USA
This is so good musically, it tells a story, great singing, very American, has power and swagger, love the banjo added to the song, i agree, it is their best song ever, RIP Janie Layne, sorry you had to leave us , great talent he was and is! Terri Leckner, Montreal
Metoo....Lol only for this reason Denounce grunge"" lefties-suicidal pukie "" RNR massacre between 1991-1995 The everglade is more class place than anythings from Seattles so
I remember when I was 15 I was able to afford 1 cassette. It was either gonna be Vanilla Ice or Warrant Cherry Pie. I made a wise choice and bought Warrant. The whole album is awesome.
do you think if you had bought vanilla ice's album you'd be over on his videos commenting about how close you came to wasting your hard earned savings on a warrant album? HAHAHA
thank God I was old enough that rap never touched me, I have no rap influence in any part of my life, it's just like it doesnt exist other than me admitting it does like now.
I always knew about this Band from the Hair Metal days but I was never a fan .....But when I heard this song and saw this video .....and now I'm hooked....I'm a Old Black man that was raised in the south and grew up listening to P.Funk and Van Halen and Journey and some Chicago and Aerosmith but never Hair Metal....but wow this song tells a great story and Kicks Ass
Tom keifer one of the best voices ever in music history ... I read bobby browns book. I feel so bad for Dani. So much more life left. He felt like he was the cherry pie guy. I love that song and the cute video. They make a great couple. So sad.
Kevin Curl I’m almost 20 and this quickly became my favorite track from Warrant after Cherry pie. With most of the music industry being hip hop and rap, I started to think how unfair it is that I had to be born right as the 80s and 90s were ending. I will never get to see a lot of my favorite bands because of this. Not to say that all rock and metal nowadays is bad (which most of it is let’s be real) but these two decades, specifically the 80s, just had that edge that cuts. I’d say the blade has dulled a bit over the years.
I saw them that tour in Portland Maine. Janey could truly sing. He pulled a fast one on us too by having everyone's attention on the main stage for encore and then he somehow hopped up on top of something in the rear of the place so the people in the back now had front row for encore, which noone expected. Only band to this day I have seen do that. I still have my Cherry Pie concert shirt. RIP Janey Lane.
I hope this beautiful talented man has found peace and is going to welcome us all to heaven one day playing music and guiding us with his gorgeous voice. RIP Jani Lane♡ You are missed♡
