Its quite volatile but im learning when the right time is to exchange for stable currency so I csn enter in on some trades for cheaper. Everyone who have 401k don't even know what a target date fund is or how it works but yet they still invest in it.

Bitcoin is of no real value? How much are the banks worth, and their derivatives? How about the central banks, what are they worth? Add those two together and you have a real idea of what bitcoin is worth. Nevermind the innate benefits that you cannot achieve in current systems. If this was 1900, and people were talking about debit cards, there would be the same pushback.

I think the future of cryptocurrency remains bright but you can't really deny that the market is very volatile and the price points of both altcoins and bitcoin can drop like nothing else. This just doesn't happen to broad index funds and blue-ship stocks.

Yeah, I totally agree. If you extend the NASDAQ analogy as far as gains & subsequent losses, the NASDAQ went up around 1,000% (2000) before falling 80%, for a net gain of a double from where it started in late 1990. If BTC "merely" doubles from where it was as recently as Aug 2013 ($129), a doubling from there would be $260... And ordinarily, a double in 5 years is a pretty respectable gain! But I don't think people realize that bitcoin was under $1 less than 10 years ago, making BTC possibly the greatest bubble of all time... by far. I think BTC could easily go under $100. The real issues I have with BTC/cryptocurrency is: 1) Mining it consumes more energy than Ireland (all the Worlds miners), making BTC a hideously "dirty" asset. 2) It's not really a "currency" to the vast majority involved with it. It is a pure speculative asset, NOT a currency. What currency goes up 2,000,000% in 10 yrs? 3) The ledger NEVER gets smaller! The only way to make it get smaller is some sort of sharding/forking mechanism, which doesn't seem to have been worked out. Anyway, I think BTC has definite value (like Internet stocks in 2000 had value) but the market WILDLY overshot what that value was, and BTC is bound to return to Earth, probably occuring for years, and probably to a value that is the inverse of its gains over the past 10 years, or 20,000 fold. (1/20,000th of $20,000? $1 someday?)

All valid points. The things that come to mind for why I think bitcoin is important: - inflation of currency (dollars, euros, etc.) - decentralized operation - digital In regards to inflation, fiat currencies by design inflate over time. So ultimately, a dollar that you have this year will buy less stuff the year after that. And so on and so forth. Just look at chart of US dollar value over time. During different periods of time, inflation can fluctuate. In this case, something like gold (or bitcoin) is a hedge against that inflation. Gold gets produced at a slow amount each year (literally because nature dictates that). bitcoins inflation is deterministic (look into bitcoin halvings). Furthermore, there’s a capped amount of bitcoin that will ever exist. You cannot say the same about any fiat currency. In regards to decentralization, many bitcoin miners in different countries ensure that the bitcoin blockchain is secure and transactions are valid. No one country owns it, and no one country can shut it down... or dictate how many bitcoins can be created. You cannot say the same about fiat currency. Now the last thing is digital. If you agree with/see the value of the two statements above, then you’ll see why people think bitcoin is valuable. If we expand off of that assumption, then: - being able to send large amounts of that currency to other parties, doesn’t require sending massive amounts of physical matter around the globe. - The cost of sending becomes the cost of a transaction (e.g. electricity used by computers to send info over internet) - we no longer need a bank to verify the transaction - to me this is similar to the notion of CDs/tapes -> streaming, or physical mail -> email This year is a perfect example of how a central government can essentially print currency with no bounds. I’m not one of those who’s against government, but ultimately if I leave dollars in my bank account, they’ll naturally erode over time. Owning assets (real estate, stocks, commodities, crypto) are just different ways to gain value. But to me bitcoin fundamentally has the potential to be as powerful as the internet. So I’m my opinion, it’s almost risky to not have 1% of your portfolio in this asset class. But yea, no one knows for sure what the future holds. Do your own research, and make your own financial decisions 👌

@First name Last name A controlled market is not an organic market. Speculation works based on studying naturally occurring patterns in what is essentially mass psychology. Nobody claims it is a perfect science which will guarantee you profit. I'm not saying all regulations disrupt this, specifically the ones designed to stop or severely limit speculation. Those that stop naturally occurring patterns from happening. Like a bank that is supposed to fail in a free market which is saved by magic money from the government in a controlled market. @@keennanvisga4133 I'm sure it will be eventually. But right now its a scam. The fact that anyone can simply create a digital currency with zero actual value makes no logical sense at all. Nobody currently uses it for day to day purchases because its far too volatile. People are only interested in it for investment purposes. While I do see a future in it, it has to be done right. This is like investing all your money into MySpace before Facebook arrives.

You do realize that Buffett doesn't sit on 84 billion dollars right? (I am assuming we are talking about his stake in Berkshire etc). The valuation of his stock is in dollars, but it could be denominated in anything, rupees whatever. The real value is in the companies and their assets. (And I will assume you meant the stock since the number was very specific and since Berkshires cash reserves is much higher than that and has been for the last 6 months).

I think a lot of the people who are ignoring this advice is because we can clearly see that he doesn’t actually understand how crypto currencies work. He seems to think that anything that doesn’t create a return like a stock does, is just a gamble. There is immense value in systems that provide economic identity to people who currently don’t have it (cardano), and the fact that he doesn’t see that simply means that he hasn’t taken the time to fully look into how these systems actually work. Not everything this guy says is intelligent, he’s been wrong about plenty of things in the past.
