Warren Haynes and Danny Louis perform Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were" on November 8, 2020 at South Farms in Morris, CT. Audio by Casey Coniff and Paul Gordon. Brought to you by Less Than Face Productions.
Check out Warren and Danny delivering a wonderful cover of Skynyrd's "Tuesday's Gone" from the same show! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mB_oPnJ-LTs.html
Warren has walked with the gods of southern rock, and now most all of them are gone. You know that’s got to be heavy on his heart when he picks up that guitar.
IT'S HEAVY-DUTY ON ALL OF US WHO DEVELOPED THE LOVE FOR SOUTHERN ROCK AND PLAYED ALONG WITH BEGINNINGS BY THE ALLMAN BROTHERS AND MARSHALL TUCKER BAND WHEN SKYNYRD CAME OUT THAT WAS IT I DROPPED OUTTA SCHOOL TO LEARN THOSE SONGS GOD BLESS THEM ALL AND MR HANES
Warren lives just down the road from me. I ran into him one time at Lowe's. He was buying a door knob set and didn't know which one to to buy. I said hi and thanked him for his music and told him which one I preferred. He took the one I suggested and that was about it. No big deal but pretty cool anyway.
Life too short to complicate it more, 😎 A true artists gets the value of tasks & those of priority & those menial & fleeting chores , U did the right thing & I'm sure he smiled later & whispered, Thanks man, Cool, , No big deal, a friendly assist by another cool citizen 😉
I've seen him more times than I can count. I've had many conversations in my head of what I would say if the chance came. It did one show, I was a blubbering fool with my arms wrapped around him all I could say and kept saying over and over lol was I love you. All the deep and intelligent stuff I had planned went right out the window. Lol
This song brings me to my knees. It was played at my husband's memorial service. He was a Vietnam Veteran. His favorite band was Pink Floyd. I miss my husband...
I didn’t know your husband but I miss him too. He was a true American who ,like myself loves Pink Floyd. This on the other hand is a mighty fine rendition
brings me to tears every time. lost one of my closest friends 18 years ago, died in my arms then lost the other to a head on car wreck just 2 years ago come April. I am reminded by this song of the brothers from other mothers that were closer to me than any blood relation I have. Rick and "Too Tall" Dave were more family than my family. If I could bring them back in exchange for my own life I would without hesitation or regret. I struggle to keep my faith that I will see them again someday. Gone but never forgotten, RIP my brothers. hope to see you soon.
I totally agree, and love 😍 watching him play with Derek Trucks. Trucks looked up to Warren Haynes. Derek Trucks in his own right a fantastic guitar player. They both will always be Allman Brothers.✌️❤️🌼
He's amazing no doubt! I even got the chance to meet him once! But he's been on the scene for a pretty long time now haha. Since the 80s at least. More folks just gotta be hip to the good stuff!
My 25 at old son took his life 13 years ago I played this at his funeral Everyone just broke down it was the worst day of my life About 2 months after that his best friend overdosed and it was terrible his sister played this at his funeral I was so sad for his family Thay was,a fucked year for losses. My son would be 39 March 16th Happy Birthday son.Wish you were here .I'm so sorry for your loss I know it broke me and I will never be the same I can barely remember what I was like pret 2007.i know I was content sometimes.I love this song.
Well I cried. Thinking about old friends that are gone...remembering their faces, hearing their laughs, remembering all the wondrous thoughts we had and the light that once shown in our eyes. I am the only one left from those days although I was the most reckless and rebellious. I am wiser but filled, like Solomon, with great wisdom and sorrow, wishing they were here.
Alex Stuehmer - Eloquently said. I’ve lost too many people to whom I was very close. Great music like this helps to keep their memory alive and their spirits close. All the best to you, my friend.
This reminds me of my beautiful wife. She has been gone 21 years now and every time I hear this song it brings back so many memories of her. Rest in peace Babe.
They played it for an encore in Dallas last month and it was quite good, as was the rest of their Dark Side of the Mule show. The one thing I wasn't prepared for was them playing great gig in the sky.
I lost my husband in 2008. We were married 33 years. We played this song all the time both guitarists lyricists with perfect harmony. I miss him dearly. He was 51 I was 52. Life has just not been good since he's gone. I feel your pain a nd wish you well. We also played Comfortably numb. I like the way you played this. God bless a nd keep you all safe💓🎵🎸😘
Not even close... and this is one of my all time ones... They had 3 good albums..best has to have at least 84% of their songs be good fvckn songs... pink floyd ain't got no where close
@@notmyrealname9504 This isn't a debate and here's why. There is no debate where subjectivity is the primary denominator at the foot of said conversation. I make my claim based on an opinion that is subjective based on personal preference. You make your assertion based on your opinions and preferences. Thus, we both get to be right based upon the fundamentals of that which we prize most. There is no discussion for me because I can't argue what appeases your value system. All I can do is hold fast to what I attribute my assertion to. I say yes. You say no. Subjectivity affords both scenarios a thumbs up. Congrats on the W. Meanwhile, I'll be polishing mine up over yonder. ;-)
@@tortillasarenotbiceps7622 wow what a perfect answer...imagine using statistics to decide if a band is great or not...crazy. Pink Floyd has a feeling and deep ness that can not be duplicated
Wish You Were Here always brings a tear to my eye. I've lost so many friends and family over the years since the first time I heard Pink Floyd sing that song. The faces, the dreams, the memories, The things that will never be. How I wish I could see them one more time.
Warren Haynes is probably one of the most talented musicians ever to pick up the guitar. Phenomenal skill level on guitar and singing. This video proves he is the music
Asking me to choose my favorite guitarist is like asking me to choose my favorite pizza. There are just so many good ones. There are probably a hundred living now who could qualify, some obviously more famous than others. Everybody will coalesce around their personal favorites and call them the best. It's just a silly argument. Just enjoy every great one when you get a chance to hear them.
I feel ya its was the 10 year anniversary of my dads death last month, i miss him i wonder if i make him proud and could use his advice, sorry for your loss. Keep on rocking
My mother passed away last month 6/15/2021. Oh jow I wish you were here mom. I know I'll see you again, but I miss you. When I needed someone to talk to, I had your ear, and you always gave me the best and right advice. Rest in the arms of our Lord, for I know you are in no more pain. Love you mom!!!!!
My brother and I sang this by request of my aunt and uncle who lost their son Marc our cousin about 15 years ago. It was very hard to do considering he was 39 not yet 40.Drugs fucking suck stay away from hard ones. RIP Mark.
I listened to till song when my grandmother who fought cancer an won.But it came back 4 yrs later lost her life to cancer. I live 2,000 miles away from her an the day she passed I did not find out till her birthday when I called to wish her a happy birthday my mother was taking it hard an told me in a way I know she was gone. I wish they would have told me so I could have gone down south to see her one last time and say goodbye to the her. It’s been 3yrs an I have her ashes by my bed an still gets me tearing. The one who was there for me an my mother to help raise us she was my best friend.
I am so sorry for your loss... I lost my brother 3 years ago and I don't seem to have what I once was. I held him in my arms as he took his last breathe.. he played guitar and did a great job with this song.. God bless you..
This man is one of the best...a legend who's legacy goes back at least to the days when he played with the Allman Brothers Band. He keeps the great tunes of yesterday alive, along with new ones he writes today.

@@craigkerr2764 that's true. Syd spent some of the time in the studio as roger played his heart out holding a toothbrush steady and jumping up and down brushing his teeth. And when roger asked how he liked it he replied "sounded quite odd didn't it"
@@truthseeker9243 this song is not about Syd Barrett . The song Shine On ... Is about him . Wish you were Here is about one's self as explained by Waters.
On july the 28th 2021 my girlfriend of 17 years died after a month long coma,I dont know if she ever heard me after she went into the hospital, her favorite band was floyd and one of my most favorite living musicians is warren. Candy cooper baby I love you and I miss you and WISH YOU WERE HERE💔
Warren Haynes is one of the best guitarist of this generation!! Hands down!!! Derek Trucks is right there with him!! They both played with The Allman Brothers band and we're incredible!!! Just stand there and jam their asses off!!! I love them both!!!!!!!❤️💞
@@margaretricher4474 Yeah there's a video somewhere here on YT of Derek playing with the band at, like, age 13. It's epic. And of course, I had to think of his poor uncle Butch, listening to this......
I think Warren (whose more seasoned as a musician) has more patience and doesn’t rush it. Sometimes I Feel Derrick rushes through a song. Just my thoughts.
Yes. The first time I met him was at a biker rally, he was twenty and playing in David Allen Coe’s band. Years later I partied with he and Woody after a show at the Cabooze in Minneapolis. Except for both of us being older and fatter he hadn’t changed from that down to earth 20 year old.
I wish all my family was hear,I'm 69 years young ..but I wish they and all the people that didn't like me that are all gone I wish they were here you learn about forgiveness as we all get older.
The only performer I've seen on that level was Chris Cornell who was probably a better singer but less competent on the guitar. Two guys who would have sounded great together.
So sad, wats known as classic rock so many are gone. I still listen to at 66 That was my world away frm this world. I am comfortably numb & a different place when I listen to the lyrics & sounds of ol! Gosh, how I wish “they “ were all here still. Only in my mind now-Will live will their sounds forever! The best! No one could compare to what was n still remains for those who were there
First time I watched Warren do this song was right after Woody died. Very touching. When I first saw Govt Mule it was Warren, Matt and Woody. It was one of the best shows I had ever seen. You could see the brotherhood these guys shared. RIP Allen Woody.
@@mysticgates7536 there's a bunch of us gather at Nognuisagoodgnu channel and Okiedeadhead channel in fact there's a live premier tonight on Sunday and Saturday with live chat, welcome cmon in the stream is kind, like old times 💓⚡💃🌹💀
Lost my mom at age 51. Lost my brother 5 years later at age 24. This was there favorite song. It’s been over 20 years sincethere gone. I certainly wish they were here. Awesome cover
This Tune always gets me too! Warren is one of the biggest talents out there. Gov't Mule, Allmans' Solo, What a force. Thanks for sharing. Peace everyone.
I understand this perfectly. It’s one of several songs that are so deeply personal to me that I cannot sing them without my voice breaking down. Warren is an amazing talent. ❤️
The lyrics to this song are so strong. Cold comfort for change? Hot ashes for dreams? Hot air for the cool breeze? So many ways to apply to whatever situation you find yourself in. Obviously it struck a spot with Warren.
Yes Roger Waters is a genius. A lot of people don't know he wrote virtually all lyrics and almost the entire album bc the other guys were so fucked up at the time. That's actually what Wish You Were Here is about. His longing for them to be present bc the former band frontman, Syd Barrett, had already ruined himself on acid and was back living at home with his parents. Shine on You Crazy Diamond is about Syd. Pretty ironic bc I think did most of us had some magical experiences with Pink Floyd and most every drug ever thought up. At least that was HIS side of the story. I know Rick Wright was actually paid as a session musician when recording "The Wall" bc he was so bad off the only way they could get him to show up was if they paid him by the hour. Again that's the behind the scenes gossip. So who really knows, but if you go back and listen to a lot of the lyrics you can begin to see where that makes sense.
@@NickDonellan I agree with the genius of Waters, though it took me almost 2 decades to appreciate it. Gilmour has always been my favorite guitarist, since I got Momentary Lapse of Reason for my 14th or so birthday. But even recently did I find out his wife had written a lot of his lyrics, leaving Waters the true head of Floyd. So much drama within such a band of brilliant minds, but I guess that is to be expected. I'm so glad they are still pushing young minds to experience the gold they recorded, and Waters is still releasing some studio tracks.
@@fuzzybunny4muny I recently saw footage from the Roger Waters, Us And Them-Tour on television. The recorded concert is available as BluRay etc. and there's parts from it here on YT. What I found striking is how many rather young fans were in the audience. Great music like this apparently conquers generation after generation.
@@fuzzybunny4muny yeah I'm actually in the same boat. It took me 25 years to realize just how much of a genius he is. I think there are things you can only learn to truly appreciate once you've reached middle age bc you just don't have the life experience and wisdom to analyze the philosophical and political nature of his lyrics. It's hard even describing what I mean without sounding like an unqualified intern at rolling stone or that old hippie that sits entranced in the drum circle at every jam band festival, probably ever.
RIP Justin Wymer,My Brother,My warrior,My friend. May Your memory last everlong, and Your fight be never forgotten. They gave you 6 months,You lasted six years. F**K cancer. I miss You My boy,I miss You! I do indeed, wish You were here.
I wrote these lyrics out for my mom who could play guitar and sing but she never played this song...wish she was here now, God I miss her so much. I was 17 when she died, could not function in society for months after that, got stuck everywhere I went. I remember just listening to this and Queen in my room and would not open the door for anyone...Can't wait to see you again mom, I love you!!!
If I could reach beyond the veil, I would give this one to my nephew, his mother (my sister) , my mother and father ... God rest his soul (Antony)~ God rest their souls!

I lost my sister and my best friend about 6 years ago. He was a musician and we played a recording of him playing this at his funeral. A sea of tears followed. I cry every time I hear this song now.
@Jim M....I’m really sorry 😣 for your loss. I know you miss your sister and your best friend. They’re so lucky 🍀 to be away from this COVID-19 crap, and the cold 🥶 weather. That doesn’t ease the pain of your broken heart 💔 They both know how much you love and miss them. Remember, we’ll all meet again, and what an awesome 😎 party 🎉 🎈that will be🙋🏽♀️💕
This was the first song I heard on the radio right after my father died. My dad was 60 and just passed away in his sleep, no warning. My dad played in band in highschool and 20-30s. In his time a local fav. My dad loved this music this band well both bands represented in this recording. And I am my father's daughter, and I live in the wrong era i believe. 7/27/17 miss you Daddy
I'm sorry for your loss. 60 isn't enough. But, please, remember all of the killer music he turned you on to. That feeling will be there for you forever.
Thank you for asking and to answer that, days go bye, and I struggle with finding reasons. I continue to go on, remembering and quietly moving forward most days, but you never stop the empty feeling that loss has built in innately.
A few weeks ago I was getting my bag at the small airport here in town and Warren is standing there waiting on his. I was tempted to speak with him- but he looked tired, it was late so I got my bag and left. I hear he put on a kick ass show the next night.
Dedicated to my wife of 10 years who is an agonizingly close 1hr flight away in a neighboring country but not allowed to come home to me because of something called CV-19! Sad world we live in...
Warren does such justice to every song he covers. What a treat for fans this. Of course love their originals too! Hey Warren would love to see this in Bethel jul 29th! Right Bon...just for you 😂
Same here. Grew up in the 70-80's. Whilst all the kids were listening to the likes of Duran duran etc, we were stoned listening to Floyd, Zepplin, Deep purple. That's what got me into geetar in the first place.
So glad to have gone to college in the late 80’s early 90’s in milledgeville Ga right in between Macon and Athens Ga man the music I saw between those two towns was unbelievable
Man I have said the same thing .last show I seen tab Benoit , December 28 2020., and that was the 3rd time I seen him that year .truly aching to see a show
This guy is all class. No matter who song it is or was he will put his touch of class to yet. Under rated performer is an understatement. One of our best from our generation hopefully the next will enjoy his music also.

Wow.... I see the date is in august 2020..while we are now in 2024..listening to this song performed by two great musicians, singing this song as should, like an anthem or, dare I say a private prayer..with the audience. This song stays forever , while time is speeding by like a bullet train. What a moving performance..thx!!!
Was one of a friend's favourites. Lost him to Covid in Jan this year and played it at his funeral service. I know exactly how you feel. RIP to those loved ones we have lost

Doesn't anybody realise that he is not just playing the 60.000.000st campfire version of these epic songs, but he is using the same intonation and mellow sounding voice like David Gilmour does? He surely isn't just a world class guitarist - he became a top notch singer during the years
