Put him in the rock and roll hall of fame already. The man wrote one of the most incredible albums of all time on his deathbed. He’s incredible. Talent and dedication worthy of the hall of fame no doubt.
Absofuckinlutely NO ONE could rock like Zevon, in his early years. Then, in his middle years, he grabbed you by the soul and the cerebral cortex and MADE you THINK. In his later years, he became the Life Teacher, recounting his life, his thoughts, his feelings, and tightened his grip on your deepest self. Then....he wrote and performed "The Wind", reached inside your chest, and took your heart with him when he left. Rocker, teacher, philosopher and by-God incredible example of genius that comes to you raw and unrefined...all these things and more. Rock the Pillars of Heaven, you amazing Renegade, you! I've enjoyed my sandwich, and my ride's here. I'll be seeing you again any day now, Warren. And it's alright....
Brenda Harper U should've done his eulogy! I've always known this song (who doesn't) but I'm just now getting into exploring the rest of his music. & it's def all good so far. Should've checked it out sooner. But there are ALOT of musicians out there that don't get their rightful due in my opinion & I'm searching them all out. & it takes awhile!
There was a time in Soho in London and you could randomly throw your head back and go yahooo. In seconds you could hear yahoos coming from everywhere. Wahooooooo! 😁
Did not know much of Warren's (considerable) talents before I saw him perform in a small club in my hometown - Brisbane, Australia - in the mid to late 1980s. He move effortlessly between 4 instruments and yet his voice was the the force de jour. He left more than a favourable impression as a talented singer song writer. Sadly, gone long before his time. Thanks for the memories.
If only Lon Chaney Jr. had lived a few years longer to see this song written. If he staggered out on-stage about half drunk during the song the place would go crazy.
Every day I get my Zevon - on! He was so amazing! His music helps me get through everything! Pain.... sickness...stress! I listen to Warren and it goes away... thank you Warren!
2 :50 great scat about seeing "john hurt and jeff bridges drviing a blood red coupe, driving to mexico, gonna kill somebody in a film or something..." AWESOME RANDOMNESS!!
It's actually pretty close to the live version from Stand In The Fire from the Troubadour. Other than the Troubadour version having the werewolf buying the car it's worded exactly the same. Partial randomness but still pure Warren.
He had some of the all time greats play on his records. “Werewolves” had Mick Fleetwood and John McVie on drums and bass and Waddy Wachtel on guitar. Waddy co wrote it.. The song was produced by Jackson Browne. A classic.
Knew about Waddy but not Mick & John. No wonder that thing rocks so good! I was in HS when it broke big back in the day. Instant classic. Pep rallies you could count on some Toga! Toga! Toga! & some A-oooooohs too.
his band is unbeilvable i mean ,...they had to be on there toes !!! cause idt they new to for sure what was happen next !!! jezz what a great dude !!!!!
You can measure the quality of a performer by their live shows. This is brilliant. I would have loved to have been in the audience that night! Thanks Warren.
@@adamweissman7286 It's not an insult it's a compliment. I've seen Bruce 5 times live. He was and still is one of the best live performers renowned for giving his all with each performance. To say this performance jokingly makes Bruce look tame is meant to greatest of this performance. I'll say it another way then....I've probably seen 1000 live performances videos on RU-vid. This one is without a doubt one of the best.
I can remember seeing Warren Z. on the Letterman show in what must have been a difficult experiance for him because he was so very ill at the time. He passed shortly after that. His wonderful body of work will never be forgotten.
Warren Zevon: "Well, I saw Chuck Norris walking with the queen, and everybody was Kung Fu Fighting". Well, I heard Werewovles of London, and it was just making memes.
You all need to eat at Lee How Fook in Philly Chinatown!! We have gone there for 30+ yrs!! loved Warren for 30+ yrs! Real deal Chinese Cantonese food. LEE HOW FOOK in Philadelphia. Love Warren Zevon!! Love Lee How Fook!! ask someone what lee how fook means!!!!!
He was one of the originals in what is becoming known as the "Southern Cal Music Cartel". Several others are Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Glenn Frey, JD Souther, and all the rest of the Eagles, etc.
I suckled at the teat of Warren Zevon as a child, thanks to my dad. Wish I could comment on Monkey Wash (my favorite song), but I have to settle for commenting on my second favorite song. This one. I bet all these dudes are all old and wrinkly. Cause, I'm a second generation fan, and I'm headed that way.
AND I SAW CHUCK NORRIS WALKING WITH THE QUEEN AND EVERYONE WAS KUNG FU FIGHTING....LOL And on that note, RIP Warren Zevon. We miss you. Waoooooh! is a hell of a drug.
Dont know if its the recording or if the band did it but they actually speeded up some 1;09 to 1:;14 and 3:18 to 3;22 --- maybe other places too Yes I am a musician and have a very sensitive ear.
At first i dont understand why werewolf and this obssession with chinese till the lyrics "this hairy handed gent..." . I am the first one to discover this or just by coincidence Warren uses werewolf. Anyway chinese literal translation for sexual harrassing man or sex perverts is colored wolf. The chinese Color meant the lust for sex. Btw why he said only one werewolf in New Jersey? Surprising if he lived there.
The band was: Warren Zevon - vocals, guitars, piano; Randy Brown - guitar, vocals; Joe Daniels - drums; Larry Larson - bass; John Wood - lead guitar, vocals.
He's the hairy-handed gent who ran amuck in Kent Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair You better stay away from him He'll rip your lungs out, Jim I'd like to meet his tailor Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen Doing the Werewolves of London I saw Lon Chaney, Jr. walking with the Queen Doing the Werewolves of London I saw a werewolf drinking a piña colada at Trader Vic's And his hair was perfect
This man truly was a fuckin fantastic musician. Wow. Sadly missed. I know it's trite, but it's still true, his like will not be seen again. Thanks Warren.
