Cit, 0122, Corpus Scriptorium historiae byzantinae, Bonn, P. 97] Michael Attaleiates or Attaliates (c. 1022-1080) was a Byzantine public servant and historian active in Constantinople, wrote in his book "History" "... the Moesians are certainly Bulgarians who later received new name Bulgarians...Bulgarians are Myrmidons". It pretty much means he was of Thracian origin.
When I read about the Troyan war, in Greek, I read that it happened somewhere near 1800 B.C. There are also many evidence of many people existence in Greek Mythology Sure he wasn't immortal or a son of a sea goddes but he was definitely real.

I also believe he was real, but I can also believe that Achilles is some kind of tribute character to a lost named Thessalian warrior. His story comes from somewhere, there is always some truth in the story.

What evidence do we have about Achilles? "People will believe what they prefer to believe" But the Truth is, the Evidence for Jesus is overwhelming. Achilles? A beautiful myth!
Jesus existed but that's it. The stories about him are nothing but blasphemous stories. Achilles could have perhaps exist but as a strong warrior *man* and nothing else.
